MarioWiki:Trolls

From the Super Mario Wiki, the Mario encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to search

A troll is a person who purposely disturbs an online community with offensive content and the like. For the wiki, examples are blanking pages, replacing page content with things like "this wiki sucks", vandalizing in general, and similar actions. This page dwells on the issue a little bit more, including what to do if you think a user is a troll or a sockpuppet, then lists the trolls as of 23:20, 25 September 2006 (EDT) for the record.

Characteristics of a Troll

When you see a user, most likely new, continually:

 • blanking pages,
 • adding or deleting (weird, unrelated) content on pages,
 • creating pages that are false repeatedly,
 • replacing all content on a page with a negative message (User pages seem prone to this attack the most),
 • saying offensive messages on (user) talk pages,

and similar actions to the Super Mario Wiki, it is likely that he or she is a troll, a vandalizer. Such users are automatically banned infinitely, though sometimes they return on another IP (often public), as a sockpuppet, and repeat their actions.

What to Do

Trolling and vandalizing are not tolerated in any way at the Super Mario Wiki. If you see continual actions of any of the above, post a message at a sysop's talk page in calm, non-cap letters. As such, the sysop or another sysop will either be online or will come online as soon as possible and block the unruly user, as well as use the special revert tool to quickly make amends. Do not create talk pages for obvious sockpuppets as it leads to unnecessary deleting.

List of Trolls

List alphabetically, please, users who have been blocked indefinitely, in the following format:

===General Name of Troll===
{{troll|(user name of troll)}}

'''Type:''' (Long term abuse, short term, one-time, etc.)
'''Sockpuppets:''' (If there are any, a list of {{troll}} templates should be at the top; not just one)
'''Description:''' (General offenses, links of interest)
'''Last Update:''' ~~~~~ (replace time with five tildes each time the section is updated)

17

Template:Troll-ip

Template:Troll-ip

Type: One-time (duo multiple account vandalizer)
Sockpuppets: Wapiko. and Zeli are the same user (IP 68.96.23.7), so 2.
Description: 17 made the only vandalism edit (IP 24.252.62.178) with crude language on Wario. After Zeli and Wapiko. made suspicious comments among the three talk pages, it was found that both were the same user, leading them to be banned. Oddly enough, Zeli tried to revert 17's edits on his own, but nonetheless, has been banned for being a sockpuppet of Wapiko. and or vice versa.

Game theory

Template:Troll-ip

Type: One-time (vandalism)
Sockpuppets: None
Description: This user made some crude language-filled edits at Donkey Kong. Thankfully, the user was busted before he could cause any real damage, and such edits have since been reverted.
Last Update: 11:38, 28 January 2007 (EST)

I Am Anime

Type: One-time (peace disturber)
Sockpuppets: None
Description: A troll hiding in wait to strike when a new user registered, I_Am_Anime claimed to be a sockpuppet of actual contributor I Am Manga. Said troll has not apeared since his first attack.

Jakebastille

Type: One-time ultra vandalism
Sockpuppets: None
Description: Copying StarNeptune, this user moved pages by simply adding random text to the end of the page name (instead of posting "is a sockpuppet of Peachycakes!" or something similar.) He moved 39 more pages than StarNeptune. Sir Grodus (talk) was again around to block and revert all of his work.

Kazzy

Template:Troll-ip

Type: Short-term abuse (user pages, deleting warnings)
Sockpuppets: One, Kazzymunster.
Description: Kazzy started by editing another user's user page. When the edit was reverted and Kazzy was given a warning, the troll simply ignored it and removed it from his/her user talk page. When given another warning about doing so, the troll again blanked the page to hide the evidence. Said troll also moved pages like Water Land to new, false pages. The troll also created a sockpuppet, possibly for use to bypass a ban. Nontheless, both accounts have been blocked.

Lickey101

Type: One-time (content blanking)
Sockpuppets: None
Description: Simply vandalized the King Boo (reverted diff) and Bowser (reverted diff) pages. With two sysops around at the time, this user was busted quickly. However, Special:CheckUser failed to find an IP for the user.

Peachycakes

Template:Troll-ip Template:Troll-ip

Type: Long term abuse, repeated subject (see below)
Sockpuppets: 18
Description: Unlike most trolls, Peachycakes, also commonly known as Daisygirl, has not been mean-spirited to the Super Mario Wiki. The troll uses number strings to ensure a different account from the last a few times in his or her 18 accounts.

Instead of blanking pages, the troll has created articles for one of two mentioned false games: Super Princess Daisy, the sequel to the canonical Super Princess Peach, with a similar storyline (fake characters: Queen Rixiam; a different Petunia) and gameplay elements, and mentioned but not yet created Donkey Kong Country 4: Tiny Kong's Triple Trouble, with another fake character (Pinky Kong, Lanky Kong's sister). Both fanon games were for the Nintendo DS and slated for 2007. The Character and Enemies pages have been changed many times to reflect the new characters, and were all reverted accordingly. Interesting to note is that the troll sometimes corrected wrong links and made a few useful minor edits, yet no helpful major edits were made.

At User talk:Peachycakes75689, the troll has claimed that his or her father is from Japan and thus has "the inside scoop" on these games and doesn't consider his or her contributions vandalism. Until, if at all, one of his or her games is announced by Nintendo, thus proving us wrong, the games and related characters are to be considered fanon and up to automatic deletion. In addition, all sockpuppets of this user are automatically blocked indefinitely.

The Super Princess Daisy page has been created as a redirect to the Princess Daisy character article; with the redirect being protected, making it impossible for the troll to add information for that game again. Hopefully this will slow down his or her actions.

Then the troll took on the name of Shadow Wayoshi (talk), but now blocked of editing her big article, (s)he decided to target one of the sysops, Wayoshi (talk), with the username. Thanks to the new extension of Special:Checkuser, the IPs were proved and the account has been also blocked indefinitely.

However sadly (s)he returned with the name Peach Guardian and Candracar Peach. They were both blocked again. Paper Jorge (talk) while using UserScore found out that this troller's real name was Taylor (though it may also be Leila, as many of Peachycakes' sockpuppets have this in their name field).

StarNeptune

Type: One time ultra vandalism
Sockpuppets: None
Description: This user may be a troll that combined attacks from Peachycakes and Willy on Wheels, or one of the two themselves. He moved 113 pages on the morning of January 19th (EDT) in 20 minutes, from the pagename to the pagename + "is a sockpuppet of Peachycakes!". In one case, "Peachycakes on Wheels" is used, suggesting a mix of attacks. Thankfully, Sir Grodus (talk) fixed all the bad redirects and 83 of the page moves within 8 hours, with Yoshi626 (talk) helping with 30 page moves as well.

The name was most likely derived from the Wookieepedian administrator, StarNeptune, as the troll left the real name and e-mail of StarNeptune (the Wookieepedia admin) on their user page.

Willy on Wheels

Type: Multiple time abuse
Sockpuppets: 33
Description: This troll came to the Wiki and started moving pages, like Mario moved to Mario on Wheels! Thankfully, HK-47 (talk) moved all the pages back to their rightful names. This troll was blocked and didn't come back, for a long time, but then he came back with the name Silly Dan (this is also the name of an administrator on Wookieepedia) and started moving pages again. He was blocked again, and everything was fixed. Hopefully, he won't come back.

Dan MacQueen (talk) is another possible sockpuppet, as this is the real name of the Wookieepedian administrator, Silly Dan, which is where the name was most likely derived from. Another set of evidence is that both Silly Dan and Dan MacQueen attacked the MarioWiki on the same day.

He has recently came back as a hoard of Sockpuppets with the names Willy on and various words that start with "W". Thankfully, Wayoshi (talk) and Paper Jorge (talk) blocked the IP of all the Willys.

The troll returned one day later, creating even more sockpuppets. On User talk:Frank Abagnale, Willy has claimed that he is only one of the vandalizer taking on the name of Willy. Willy has also tried to impersonate Wikia's staff member Angela as one of his sockpuppets. Last Update: 12:03, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

Woodylogan

Type: Repeated-times, same subject (duo multiple account vandalizer)
Sockpuppets: 3
Description: Woody Logan started vandalizing pages such as Luigi and Yoshi's Island, despite being asked to stop. He was blocked, fortunately. He then came back as Ecmsthomaslogan, but was then blocked by Sir Grodus (talk). He returned this time as Tonya Logan targeting the same pages. Unfortunately, this was on a lazy Saturday morning, where the sysops were getting some nap time. Finally, Paper Jorge (talk) stopped her. The troll came back later as Tony Logan on March 19th, but was stopped again by Porplemontage (talk).
