Lurchin
Lurchin are spiky green sea urchin-like creatures encountered in many underwater levels in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble.
Lurchins do not attack Dixie or Kiddy Kong directly, instead they will remain stationary slowly opening and closing their shell. If one the kongs get to close to a Lurchin they may end up being hit by a Lurchins spiny shell. Lurchins can only be defeated with help from Enguarde the Swordfish or Nibbla, though it is not advisable to allow Nibbla to eat a Lurchin.
One of Donkey Kong Country 3's bosses is a giant Lurchin named Barbos.
In the level "Rip-Curl Reef" (a level found in the area Pacifica, which is exclusive to the GameBoy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 3) a type of Lurchin with a yellow shell, purple spikes and green skin appears; these Lurchins are no different than a regular colored one.
Lurchins also appear in Donkey Kong Land 3, there is no real difference between the Lurchins of Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong Land 3. Barbos also reappears.
