Dr. Crygor is a mad scientist featured in the WarioWare series who performs wacky and mostly harmless experiments on his private island laboratory in Diamond City. He is also a cyborg, whose robotic components include a visor with a glowing, red eye, metal hands, a metal plate on his head, and metal legs. As of yet, it is never explained why Crygor has these robotic replacements. His name comes from the term "cryogenics" and the name "Igor," likely in reference to the character from Universal's Frankenstein films.

In addition to being a scientist, Dr. Crygor is a WarioWare, Inc. employee. As such, he frequently appears as one of the stage or mode hosts in the WarioWare games.

History

Background

Dr. Crygor's diary at the Japanese website for WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! shares some of his research incidents. The diary reveals that, before the events of Mega Microgame$!, he has done numerous researches, including the heating and cooling of gummies, the results of eating chewing gum and chocolate together, and the growth of hair. He also concocted a drink that makes Wario extremely intelligent; however, after one day, the drink's effects wore off.

WarioWare series

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!

Dr. Crygor can be seen in the intro of WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, where he is called by Wario to join his company WarioWare, Inc. and to produce microgames for his upcoming game. Like Wario's other friends in Diamond City, Dr. Crygor agrees.

In his stage, Dr. Crygor is in his laboratory dancing. After finishing off his dance, the mad scientist reaches for something to drink and ends up grabbing a beaker filled with a blue liquid. He drinks it and suddenly comes down with food poisoning. He quickly runs for the restroom, shaking all the while. Once finished, the toilet explodes behind him, flooding his lab. Dr. Crygor attempts to swim away but is sent rocketing into the sky. He tries to activate his jetpack, but it doesn't work, and he begins falling to the ground. Luckily, Don the Sparrow catches Dr. Crygor and flies him to safety.

At the ending of the game, he accidentally hits Wario's rocket and makes it crash into the harbor. He and Wario paddle the rocket to safety.

In the unlockable dual-player mini-game "VS Hurdle", Dr. Crygor appears as the character of the player who has to use the button and has to reach the finish in a hurdle race before Orbulon, the other player's character.

In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, Dr. Crygor has Reality microgames, which involve photorealistic graphics.

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!

In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!, Dr. Crygor is sleeping on his toilet in his laboratory, when a UFO suddenly crashes right in front of him, causing him to launch out of his toilet. When Dr. Crygor falls back into his lab, Orbulon, Dribble & Spitz greet him. Later, the three and Dr. Crygor travel in Dribble & Spitz's taxi.

Dr. Crygor appears as one of the ten playable characters in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!. As a playable character, his jumpsuit can be tinted in the color of the player, whether red, yellow, green or blue. He hosts the multiplayer mode Balloon Bang. In this mode, one player plays a microgame while the other players inflate a balloon by pressing repeatedly until it pops, ending the game.

As with the previous game, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$! features Dr. Crygor's Reality microgames.

WarioWare: Twisted!

In the intro of WarioWare: Twisted!, Dr. Crygor is called upon by Wario to help fix his broken Game Boy Advance. Crygor throws the system into his latest invention, the Gravitator, which spews out hundreds of smaller systems. Wario grabs one of these, only to find that it lacks any buttons. Dr. Crygor instructs him to try tilting the system, and Wario does, allowing him to pass one of his games with ease. After showing it to Mona and 9-Volt, both of which enjoy the tilting controls, Wario gets the idea to sell the system to make a huge profit.

In his stage, Dr. Crygor excitedly dances around his lab to celebrate the completion of his newest invention, the Gravitator. Suddenly the machine spews out bubbles, which trap Crygor and many of his possessions. After escaping the bubble, the scientist claims to be a genius and immediately fires up the machine. Suddenly, the Gravitator bursts open, revealing a giant robot. Dr. Crygor jumps into the robot and flies off in it. However, while flying, Shuriken the Falcon rams into the robot, causing it to fall apart, to reveal him riding atop a mechanical duck. Dr. Crygor seems doomed until Shuriken returns to rescue him.

In Wario-Man's story, as Dr. Crygor continues to create more games with his Gravitator, Wario is on the conveyor belt and goes into the Gravitator, coming out as Wario-Man. Wario-Man then goes back into the Gravitator to power up, but Dr. Crygor tries to warn him that it is too dangerous to risk it, but Wario-Man took no notice and flies up into space. Dr. Crygor is last seen fishing as Wario-Man (now Wario) lands in the sea next to his lab.

In this game, Dr. Crygor's microgame set is named after his latest invention and involves rotating the system to alter the gravity of the microgames.

WarioWare: Touched!

Dr. Crygor appears once again in WarioWare: Touched!, this time showing off his Tri-phonic Undulating Nanobot Automaton, or TUNA, a machine capable of making objects younger. Crygor tests his invention on an apple core, which is transformed back into a full apple. The scientist jumps into the machine to see the apple, but the hatch closes trapping him inside. When he escapes he becomes younger and more fit. Using his jet-pack, he flies into space where he is then seen with a group of Alien Bunnies.

Later on, in the story segment of Mike, Dr. Crygor has just finished building a karaoke robot and naming him Mike. When this robot becomes operational, he announces that he is going out, and asks Mike to do some cleaning around the lab. While his master is gone, Mike's original karaoke programming is triggered by blowing a pile of dust off a windowsill, and overrides his cleaning software, making him blast out of the lab and into space to host a karaoke party on a faraway planet, and lands on the planet of the Alien Bunnies. Soon, Dr. Crygor, having realized that Mike had gone missing, hitches a taxi courtesy of Dribble & Spitz, and finds out where Mike had been. When they get home, Dr. Crygor suggests that they should sing a duet, but Mike isn't impressed with his singing and, following an argument, Mike leaves again for the Hawt House.

This is the first game where the left half of Crygor's head is also covered by a metal plate.

In WarioWare: Touched!, Dr. Crygor's microgame set is called Slightly Unscrewed, and involves spinning the Stylus in circles.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

In WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Dr. Crygor is shown to have a granddaughter, a young inventor named Penny. In her stage, she attends a competition called the "Invent-Off" at Diamond Academy and is put against her grandfather to see who is the best inventor. After what appears to be a mental fight between the two, Penny pulls her winning invention (a motorcycle) out of thin air, surprising Dr. Crygor. After defeating her grandfather, Penny sings a song to the cheering crowd.

Later, Dr. Crygor stars in a stage. Here he reveals his latest invention, the large machine known as the Kelorometer, capable of slimming down anything put into it. After completing twenty microgames, the player's Mii is slimmed down and their performance is graded.

WarioWare: D.I.Y.

In WarioWare: D.I.Y., Dr. Crygor appears in the introduction scene, where he is in his laboratory playing video games on his Wii. Suddenly, the game's characters start swarming out of the TV screen to attack him, until it turns out that he was having a bad dream. This weird dream then gives him an idea for a new invention, and eventually he builds the Super MakerMatic 21, a machine that can create microgames, records and four-page black and white comics in a near-instant.

Deep in his laboratory, Dr. Crygor and his granddaughter, Penny, are busy building more Super MakerMatic 21 machines, when Wario comes in with a broken television, asking him if he could fix it. Wario sees the new machines on the conveyor belt, asking what those are. Dr. Crygor explains to Wario about the machines' functions, giving Wario some ideas on making money with his new invention.

Although Dr. Crygor does not have a microgame stage of his own in this game, the player can enter his laboratory after it has been unlocked and create microgames, music records and comics using his invention.

Game & Wario

Dr. Crygor also appears in Game & Wario, where he hosts the Design minigame. In the minigame's introduction, he is seen getting up from his bed in his laboratory, and going to his toilet (which has a shower installed on it). He has trouble getting off of the toilet and ends up inside it, moving through pipes until he reaches another room.

In the minigame, the player must draw lines and shapes of certain sizes to build a robot. Dr. Crygor gives the player instructions throughout the minigame.

He is also in the Bowling minigame, depicted on a pin like most other characters in the game.

WarioWare Gold

Dr. Crygor returns in WarioWare Gold, hosting the second set of the Twist League, which has a Sports theme. In his story, he and Mike are stuck in Agate Forest, a location filled with “paranormal frequencies” when they run into a robot named Doris 1. Doris 1 recognizes Dr. Crygor as her creator, who abandoned her for reasons undisclosed and proceeds to chase him. Later, after the confusion is cleared, Dr. Crygor takes in Doris 1 out of generosity, and Doris 1 contradicts Mike's claims that there is no paranormal activity, claiming that it walked right through her. Dr. Crygor then realizes that he dropped the fungi in the forest, and asks Mike to go back there, but he refuses.

Dr. Crygor also appears in Penny's stage. Penny tests the Tonally Transformative Elixir on Dr. Crygor, only for him to have extreme stomach pain. To cure this, Penny whips out her Super-Special Tummy Tonic to cure the pain in his stomach. Eventually, the pain is counteracted, and Dr. Crygor then asks when the elixir's effects will wear off, as Penny giggles nervously.

During the Dancing Team set of the Ultra League, Dr. Crygor arrives with Mona, Jimmy T, Mike, Fronk, Young Cricket & Master Mantis, Kat & Ana, and Penny to assist Joe in filling up his new nightclub, Club Joe. He unintentionally drives off almost everyone in the club with his dance moves. He is then seen dancing with the rest of the group after everyone comes back.

WarioWare: Get It Together!

Dr. Crygor appears in WarioWare: Get It Together! Notably, Dr. Crygor's design, excluding his swimwear, closely resembles his appearance from WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! to WarioWare: Touched!. In the game's story mode, he appears in the opening cutscene, welding an object. He, along with the rest of the WarioWare, Inc. employees, gets sucked in the game world due to Wario's actions.

His stage is the High Tech stage, which is available after Mona's That's Life stage is completed. In the pre-stage cutscene, Wario, Young Cricket, 18-Volt, and Mona notice Dr. Crygor in front of his stage entrance, who is distracted with his newfound ability, along with the corruption of his stage. After Wario gets Crygor's attention, Cricket explains the situation, causing Crygor to gain interest in the game bugs.

In his story, Dr. Crygor is testing a new invention in a top secret factory: Flatterbots. The robots successfully applaud Doris 1's cleaning and Mike's singing, but do not react to Dr. Crygor's dancing. Deeming the test a failure, Dr. Crygor recalls the Flatterbots. After his stage is cleared, Dr. Crygor joins the gang, reassuring his status as a genius.

After beating Anything Goes, Dr. Crygor goes back to the real world alongside most of the other WarioWare, Inc. employees and chases after Wario after it is revealed their predicament was caused by his poor programming. However, they soon remember other people were left behind in the game world, and they immediately return to rescue them. After completing the three towers and collecting the Golden Cracked Mug, Golden Beehive, and Golden Toilet Paper Roll, he calls his granddaughter Penny to assist Wario and co. in combining the objects.

As a playable character, Dr. Crygor is able to fly, but his form of control is different from other flying characters. Pressing and holding makes him swim in the air and charge forward, and tilting changes his direction. With his ability to ram into objects and free control over direction, Crygor excels in microgames where constant pressure is required (e.g. Don't Waste the Paste) and can easily use his ability to spin objects (e.g. Sanitation Station, Wind-Up Pup). However, his ability is weak in moving objects with precision, as solid objects will bounce off Crygor's attacks, which also have little effect on moving the objects. A major example of this disadvantage is Basically Water Polo, the only microgame considered a bad fit. Overall, Dr. Crygor has a fairly balanced amount of microgames that deem him an above-average or average fit (87 and 95 respectively).

Rhythm Heaven Megamix

Dr. Crygor makes several appearances in the Wario... Where? challenge set of Rhythm Heaven Megamix. He first appears in the background alongside Penny in the set's version of Template:Wikia, which now features Mike as one of the models of robots being filled with liquid. He later stars as the player character in the set's version of Template:Wikia, which has him taking photos of racing Tiny Warios and Dribble & Spitz.

Other appearances

Dr. Crygor appears as a sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The trophy's description states "Rumor has it he's even working on a time machine."; this is a reference to the "diary" section of the Japanese WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! official site, which has a page where Dr. Crygor writes down his progress on building a time machine. Dr. Crygor also appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Spirit.

General information

Physical appearance

Dr. Crygor is a cyborg, with his parts being a metal head plate, gloves, and boots. He is a bald man who has a large, red and rounded nose, and a pointy and thin mustache. His outfit varies between the WarioWare games. In most of his appearances, he is shown to always wear a visor that obscures his normal eyes, which has one glowing red eye; and a full-body cryogenic jumpsuit. In most games prior to WarioWare Gold, his eye is situated on the right side of his visor; after those, his eye is shown always centered. His metal plate has one or two ear coverings which resemble headphones. His gloves have an orange sphere on the forearm area.

In the games before WarioWare: Touched! and in WarioWare: Get It Together!, he has a green visor, and his metal plate only covers half of his head, exposing his bald head. His jumpsuit is yellow, with a blue vertical line on it. Only one glove and boot cover his left arm and right leg, respectively. He also has a blue jetpack on his back.

After Dr. Crygor's upgrade in WarioWare: Touched!, his metal plate covers the entirety of his head, and he has his gloves and boots on both of his arms and legs. He also gains a red color scheme. This design is retained in WarioWare: Smooth Moves until the Kelorometer stage when he was upgraded further and becomes muscular. His Kelorometer suit is yellow with gray accents, and has a blue cape. In addition to having spiked ear coverings, he has his headgear cover everything of his head, except his nose and mouth.

WarioWare: D.I.Y. gives Dr. Crygor a unique design with gray accents on his head, hands, and feet. He also has a green accent marked in front of his metal plate, which has a rounded antenna on top.

In Game & Wario and Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Dr. Crygor wears a purely-black jumpsuit which is layered with a white labcoat. In addition to his black jumpsuit, he has a new, bigger arched visor. He has light-blue accents on his metal plate and gloves. In the latter game's Template:Wikia, he does not wear his labcoat. WarioWare Gold keeps his metal plate and gloves from Game & Wario, and his outfit in that game is a white shorts jumpsuit marked with big gray stripe, and light-blue boots.

Personality

As a mad scientist, Dr. Crygor has an outlandish personality, creating unique and unusual inventions. He is said to be a "dangerous" scholar by many people, even though his inventions are generally harmless. He tries to ask the player to join him as his assistant.

Dr. Crygor is easily frightened; as pointed out by Mike in WarioWare: Get It Together!, he has a phobia of the dark. He has a great affection for Penny, his granddaughter, and is seen helping her test out her inventions. His WarioWare Gold character trailer implies that he and Penny share identical morning routines. Dr. Crygor's interests mostly involve toilets, as evidenced by the toilet paper motifs seen in some WarioWare games and a toilet being used as an entrance to his lab in Game & Wario.

Dr. Crygor is stated to be a flamboyant person; whenever a romantic incident strikes him, a rose is in his possession. He dances in swaying and simple poses that end up driving people away, as seen when he is testing his Flatterbots.

His unexpected stomach pains cause Dr. Crygor to go to the bathroom to alleviate his troubles. These stomach illnesses were the result of chemicals from fluids that he ends up drinking, such as the Tonally Transformative Elixir or the blue liquid he drinks in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!

• The music in Dr. Crygor's epilogue in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! is the hurry up music from Wario Land 4.
• The character trailer for Penny and Dr. Crygor for WarioWare Gold seems to indicate that Dr. Crygor's original lopsided metal plate still exists under his larger one and that the latter is removable, as it seems he sleeps without it on. Dr. Crygor also still wears his yellow outfit from the games prior to WarioWare: Smooth Moves when he goes to sleep.
