A Cannon is an item in Super Mario 64. To use the Cannon, Mario had to talk to a Bob-omb Buddy, who would activate it. The Cannon helped him get blasted off to other places.

Although Super Mario 64 marked the first appearance of a cannon going by the name "Cannon", the Pot Cannons of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars previously helped Mario. Unnamed Cannonball-shooting cannons also appeared as foes on Super Mario Bros. 3's Airships.

Cannons appeared later in Super Mario Sunshine, where Monty Moles used them. Here, they shot Bullet Bills.

A giant Cannon appears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Fahr Outpost area. This Cannon is big enough that it can fit more than 100 people (or at least Bob-ombs) inside of it and it can shoot anyone anywhere, even the moon.

Cannons were used to blast Yoshi to new heights in Yoshi's Universal Gravitation.

The Cannon has appeared in Mario Party 7 as an orb in Pagoda Peak and Mario Pinball Land.

Smaller Cannons that shot exploding Cannonballs appeared in Mario Hoops 3 on 3's Pirate Ship court.

In New Super Mario Bros., cannons could be unlocked by exiting certain levels or Ghost Houses through a secret exit. These cannons would shoot Mario or Luigi into another world of the game, usually three Worlds away. The exception is World 1's cannon, which led to World 5.

Cannons appear in boss fights against Donkey Kong in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis.

In Wario: Master of Disguise a golden cannon known as Blamses was a popular attraction. Another cannon in Master of Disguise is the Sphinx Jr., and another cannon known by K9 Cannon.

Cannons (as well as a calm variety) are also enemies in Super Princess Peach. However, in this game, "Cannon" is merely another name for the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island enemy Kaboomba.

A Cannon also appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Bowser gets stuck in it, and tells the Mario Bros. to get him out. They can not, however. Tolstar then tells them that if they collect 100 Beanbean coins, then he will let Bowser out. The Mario Bros. do this. Tolstar then betrays them and doesn't let him out. They then battle him, and defeat him. The Green Starshade Bro. then comes out, and lights the fuse, sending Bowser to crash into Hoohoo Mountain. The Cannon then dissapears, allowing Mario and Luigi to pass. This cannon is very similar to the ones that fire out Bullet Bills. Interestingly, Bullet Bills are enemies in the area.

Cannon items appeared in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. They were named Cannonballers, and were one of the many Bros. Items in the game.

Cannons reappear in Super Mario Galaxy. Now red, these cannons appear to be more advanced than the cannons from Super Mario 64. They also have much more precise aiming, since the player uses the Wii Remote to aim. However, one wrong aiming and Mario or Luigi will be literally flying to their death.
