Switch Blocks, also known as arrow blocks[1][2] (also parsed as Arrow Blocks),[2] are blocks found in the Yoshi's Island series. When activated by either jumping or striking them with an egg, Switch Blocks cause spotted platforms to flip around, alternating between safe and harmful sides. They correspond to the colors of the spotted platforms; hitting a red Switch Block, for example, causes red spotted platforms to flip. Switch Blocks are first found in Salvo the Slime's Castle in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, having green and red colors. In Yoshi's Island DS, a block with the same appearance as a Switch Block is found in Big Bungee Piranha's Lair, and it causes segmented tunneled platforms of the corresponding colors to rotate, while Switch Blocks that flip the spotted platforms appear in Castle of Priscilla the Peckish. In Yoshi's New Island, Switch Blocks are found in Fort Key Calamity, having yellow and red colors. Internally, Switch Blocks in Yoshi's New Island share their name with ! Blocks that appear after the player hits a ! Switch.
