Alien?[edit]

Is Phanto an alien or what? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:09, 14 June 2011 (EDT)

According to the current definition yes since he's not native to either earth nor the mushroom kingdom what with subcon being a land of dreams Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
I thought Mario's dream is technically on Mushroom Kingdom since Mario is probably sleeping there. So, does that make Shy Guys aliens? Ugh, this is all speculation. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:14, 14 June 2011 (EDT)
But its called a different Dimensions and that goes either way since shy guys make there first chronological apperance in super mario world 2 which happens before super mario bros. 2 Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
Well, does that make Birdo an alien? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:20, 14 June 2011 (EDT)
Maybe we should only call creatures from other planets aliens not different dimensions... -Four Paper Heroes FourPaperHeroes.jpg 01:21, 14 June 2011 (EDT)
Acctually every creature from super mario bros. 2 could be considered an alien since they debut in Doki Doki Panic which takes place in a story book world Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
Would the people from Flip/Flopside be considered aliens? Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC
i think so what with flipside not being part of earth of the mushroom kingdom Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
So then, wouldn't every enemy and character that appear in Flip/Flopside be considered an alien? Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC
Prolly with the current definiton except of course for creatures that had debutated prior to the events of Super Paper Mario Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)

Well, you're raising speculation, Goomba's Shoe15. The events in Super Mario Bros. 2 can happen any time, maybe even after Super Mario Galaxy. If that was the case, then Birdo wouldn't be considered an alien, no? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 01:27, 14 June 2011 (EDT)

Not really. I see no darn reason to assume that Mario games take place out of chronological order (unless specifically stated to, like in the case of Yoshi's Island). - Ericss (talk) 14:37, 3 September 2013 (EDT)
So all im saying is that Birdo made her debut in a came that took place in subcon therefore she would be an alien while shy guys on the other hand have been confirmed to live in the mushroom world ever since mario was a baby. Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
Shouldn't The Category:Aliens be restricted to species that are confirmed to come from another world, like the Shroobs? Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC
Well yes but characters like phanto and the subcon are confirmed to be native to subcon although they are also native to other regions such as the story book dimension so they are aliens Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
Fair enough. Mario riding YoshiXzelionETC

Sprite Question[edit]

The calmmask, madmask picture on this page, is it from the original SMB2, the All-Star version, the SMA version, or all three? Jdrawer 21:53, 3 February 2012 (EST)

Calm Phanto is from Doki Doki Panic, Mad Phanto is from NES Super Mario Bros. 2 Niiue - Who has lost his tail?

"cannot be avoided"[edit]

Actually, in SMB USA the Phanto can be avoided continuously. You simply jump in a circle around Phanto while Phanto tries to correct and circles around you as well. This is a lot easier to do with a wider radius created by a longer vector of motion for Mario, so you can easily demonstrate this for yourself by finding someplace with a higher ledge you can reach overhead while running, and a firm ground below, and a key. I think there's a spot like this very early in the game. So, I don't think this article should state definitively "Phanto cannot be avoided" considering what really happens is later levels are very tightly constructed and don't give you a lot of playing room, or put keys in vertical platform tubes that aren't so easy to go circling around in, etc. forcing you to adopt the drop-the-key-fast measure.
