Fruit
Fruit are the favorite food of the Yoshies. Many fruits grow wildly in the Mushroom World that depend on cultivated land in the real world. Fruits made their first appearence in Super Mario World, in the form of large berries growing on bushes. Yoshi could eat them for the value of one Coin, however; no points are given when a fruit is eaten. If Yoshi eats enough pink berries a cloud will appear and throw out coins. If Yoshi eats a rare green berry the games clock will gain more time, this makes sure you could reach the goal before the timer ran out.
Fruits also appear in Yoshi's Story, where if you eat enough fruit you would advance to the next level. In Super Mario Sunshine, Yoshis need a lot of fruit. When riding a Yoshi, you had to give it a lot of fruit or it would go back to it's egg. The watermelons in the game are massive, yet very fragile. They're almost exactly like water ballons.
Another kind of fruit appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, named Bean Fruit.
