Samus Aran is an intergalactic bounty hunter who occasionally visits Mushroom World. She was orphaned as a girl, and was adopted by the bird-like Chozo race. She was infused with Chozo blood, and was given a Power Suit. She then decided to fight the Space Pirates, the race that killed her parents. The series was actually started by Shigeru Miyamoto's mentor, Gunpei Yokoi.

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Samus travelled to the Mushroom Kingdom to stay at the guest room of the royal castle. Apparently, Samus needed a place to rest before battling the evil Mother Brain.

Samus has also been in all of the WarioWare games, in minigames modeled after levels from the original NES game, Metroid.

Super Smash Bros. Series

Samus also appears in Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee as a playable character. She is due to appear in the forthcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Samus in Super Smash Bros.

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Samus is a heavy, slow character, but has many powerful attacks. Her strongest is her Charge Shot, but only when charged enough. In Melee, she added a Missile attack, which is a guided missile attack. Also, she is one of the few characters who has an attack which has the same name as an item, in this case, Screw Attack.

She has a special grabbing technique, her Grappling Beam, which allows her to grab characters standing further away. She is also one of the few characters who can wall jump.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, when using her Final Smash, she loses her Power Suit, and becomes Zero Suit Samus.

Snake Codec Conversation

• Snake: Hey, Otacon. I got a woman here in a Power Suit...
• Otacon: Huh? How'd you know she was a woman? Yeah, that'd be Samus Aran, the most renowned bounty hunter in the galaxy. Her Arm Cannon packs quite a wallop. If you get hit with a charged shot from that thing, you can kiss your butt good-bye.
• Snake: Sounds like my kind of woman...
• Otacon: Yeah, well, just don't get too close, Snake. Samus is deadly. After Space Pirates killed her parents, she was raised by the Chozo and trained in the fighting arts. She's been places and seen things that you and me can't even begin to imagine.
• Snake: But underneath that cold, metal exterior beats the heart of a woman...

Role in Subspace Emissary

Samus begins the Subspace Emissary in her Zero Suit, infiltrating a sinister laboratory. After making her way through it, she encounters Pikachu trapped within a strange device that harnesses its electrical energy to provide power to the complex. Seeing that the device causes Pikachu pain, Samus breaks the machine. In thanks, Pikachu helps Samus continue through the lab. Eventually, the pair come across Samus's armorsuit within a tank. However, two clones of Samus, wearing the purple Gravity Suit, approach them, prompting Samus and Pikachu to battle. When they are defeated, an alarm begins to wail, and the R.O.B. Squad approaches. Samus regains her armorsuit and blasts her way through them, along with Pikachu.

As they attempt to escape the complex, however, Ridley strikes without warning, snatching up Samus and attacking her. Pikachu uses Thunder to free her, and the two face off against Ridley.

After escaping from the facility, Samus and Pikachu discover another Subspace Army base. The two infiltrate it, and after fighting their way through, discover the Ancient Minister in a room filled with Subspace Bombs. The allies prepare to battle, but the Ancient Minister does not seem to want to fight them. Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Captain Falcon, and Captain Olimar then break into the room, and all of them, including Samus, witness the Ancient Minister defy Ganondorf's commands. As a result, the R.O.B. Squad fires upon him, burning off his robe and revealing that he is an R.O.B., as well. The rest of the R.O.B.s activate all the Subspace Bombs in the room, forcing all of them to escape. As they rush to the exit aboard Captain Falcon's ship, Meta Ridley races after them. The group defeats the space dragon once more, and escapes just before the floating island is engulfed in Subspace.

They then meet up with Mario, Link, Kirby, Pit, Yoshi, Ice Climbers, Marth, Ike, Lucas, Pokémon Trainer, Meta Knight, Princess Peach, Princess Zelda, Lucario, Snake, Fox, Falco, and Mr. Game & Watch. All of them witness Ganondorf and Bowser's doomship emerge from Subspace. Samus's ship is among the ones that attack it.

Samus can be chosen for the first portion of the Subspace level; however, she, along with all the other characters except for King Dedede, Luigi, and Ness, is turned into a trophy by Tabuu. If her trophy is obtained during the second portion of the Subspace level, she can be used in The Great Maze.

Samus Aran is the toughest bounty hunter in the galaxy. Using a special suit powered by the technology of the bird people which allows her to execute daring acrobatic feats, Samus pursues the airborne life form, Metroid, throughout the universe.

This intergalactic bounty hunter's full name is Samus Aran. Clad in a Power Suit made by the Chozo race and infused with their enhanced blood, she cleared the planet Zebes of a Metroid infestation. Samus is an orphan, the sole survivor of a Space Pirate raid that destroyed an Earth colony named K-2L.

Samus has an abundance of projectile weapons, making her a long-distance attack specialist. The most powerful weapon in her arsenal is her Charge Shot, but be warned: it can be reflected. Her missiles have homing capabilities, but when fired as Smash Attacks, they fly on a straight trajectory and have boosted power.

All-Star

While Samus's arsenal of missile weapons is indeed formidable, her enemies are in for a rude awakening if they guard against nothing else. Her Grappling Beam captures foes and latches on to walls, and the Screw Attack drags foes upwards in a series of spins that doubles as a recovery move. Samus can also use her Bombs to perform Bomb Jumps.

It's said that the orphaned Samus Aran was raised by the few survivors of the Chozo race. They armed her with a Power Suit and taught her the ways of advanced combat; even burdened with her heavy suit, Samus is as graceful as a butterfly. In the Metroid series, it was standard that Samus would remove her helmet and armor if you cleared the game fast enough.

NOTICE: This trophy cannot actually be obtained in copies of the game without a cheating device. It was only available in a promotional event at Toys 'R' Us in Japan.

The Power Suit she wears is a product of their technology. Her unique combat skills combined with her athleticism and Arm Cannon have seen her through countless missions.

Zero Laser

Samus's Final Smash. The beam emerging from her Arm Cannon is dreadfully powerful and causes great damage to enemies. The beam travels slowly but can be swept up and down. The recoil of the beam is so great that it tears off her Power Suit, revealing Zero Suit Samus. The pieces of her armor can be picked up and thrown as weapons.

Samus (Fusion Suit)

During exploration of SR388, Samus is infected by an X parasite and nearly dies. A vaccine created from Metroid cells saves her, but her suit turns blue and loses most of its abilities and weapons. This new Samus must regather her special abilities and fight to neutralize the threat of the X parasites in the space station run by Biologic Space Laboratories.

Samus (Power Suit)

Samus in the basic version of the legendary Power Suit, made for her by the Chozo race. Samus is most often seen at the beginning of each game in this suit. The normal Power Suit has the lowest level of protective power and features no additional functions. She can use the cannon on her right arm for power shots and build up her arsenal through item pickups.

Samus (Varia Suit)

A suit with a higher level of protection than the Power Suit. It eliminates damage caused by very hot or cold areas. It is also more resilient to enemy attacks than the Power Suit and greatly differs in shoulder design. Recent visual depictions of Samus often show her wearing the Varia Suit.

Samus (Gravity Suit)

A Power Suit that provides even more damage protection than the Varia Suit. This Gravity Suit also allows Samus to move without water resistance when underwater. In most games in the series, this suit also blocks lava damage and friction. In addition, it allows Samus to use item bonuses like the High Jump, Space Jump, and Speed Booster, even when underwater or in lava.

Samus (Dark Suit)

A Power Suit that reduces damage taken from the atmosphere of Dark Aether. It is obtained after defeating Amorbis in the Dark Torvus Temple. With its increased protection, it greatly widens the range of exploration available in the toxic atmosphere. This suit was developed by the Luminoth, the native race of Aether.

Trivia

• A doll of Samus is owned by the maniacal Booster. He keeps the Samus Doll in his toy box, on the top floor of Booster Tower. Additionally, a Samus Doll sometimes appears in Super Smash Bros. introduction.
• Another Samus doll was earlier featured in the second Mario Vs. Wario comic story in Nintendo Power. Mario and Wario compete to present this doll to Peach for her birthday, only to find out at the end that Luigi bought it first.
• Samus was originally going to appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, where she would try a sample of coffee at the Starbeans Café. She was replaced at the last minute with Professor E. Gadd.^[1]
• Samus also appeared in Nintendo Monopoly. Here, she costs $200, and took the role of New York Avenue.
