==New Mario game in the E3==
I've seen that Nintendo will probably make a new Mario game (including a New TLOZelda and a Wii Fit sequel) found here [http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/wii-fit-plus-mario-zelda-to-be-shown-at-e3-report]. The possible new games will be shown in the E3 of june. {{User:Coincollector/sig}} It could be just a speculation, but the Wii Fit sequel has been confirmed by now.
:Its not very explicative... But its good {{User:Tucayo/sig|i remembered Paper MArio DS}}

When uploading pics can you make sure they're not stretched out/really bad quality/obviously stolen from The Mushroom Kingdom site? It doesn't take much to fix something, even if you only have MS paint. Lets try to look professional here people.
It cant be accessed in the MW Applet or any  other chat devide except Mibbit. Can someone fix this? {{User:Tucayo/sig|<s>Kinda</s> urgent}}

==Actual research on Mario gravity physics==
Should we add pages for bonus games, like Stump Petuni and the thwomp quiz from Paper Mario 2? We would also have to add the lives earning thing at the end of each level in SMB2 and SML, the Toad House card games in SMB3, the Wario Land enemy bombing, ect.
Well, this is funny. I just found out an article about the Mario gravity physics back in Kotaku, grabbing a few resources for me to utilize fully. ...This is when I stumbled upon this. :O Here's the link. :Those articles are legit, especially if they are named. The Toad House games should probably be listed in the Toad House article, as they are not given specific names (to my knowledge). The others should have conjectural names if they are not associated with a specific place. -- [[User: Son of Suns|Son of Suns]]

In cases where images are in an article, sometimes templates get squished off to the side. I think it would look nicer if the templates were at the bottom of the page and not squished off to the side. Put the minimum number of breaks between the main body and the template in order for the template to be at the bottom, under the image. == Just a thought... ==
@Cobold: As far as I know, such things are usually made by intellectual people for (pseudo)science fun, it isn't to be taken really seriously. ;-) Like the German Donaldist (Donald Duck researcher) who created the map of Duckburg within 13 years ([http://www.zeit.de/2008/49/Entenhausen German article]), or the [[wikipedia:Donaldism|Donaldism]] in general. --[[User:Grandy02|Grandy02]] 12:02, 9 June 2009 (EDT)
In SMRPG, with Psychopath, Mallow can read minds, revealing a "thought". The thoughts of an enemy should be added to its page. I have the thoughts for quite a few enemies, so when have the time I may upload a few. Could this be made into a project?
:I know it's just for fun. I remember reading a German book about how Donald Duck should be rated 18 because of all the crimes being committed in the comic books. They took a quite judicial approach on that, and the Mario "scientific research" of the gravity sounds exactly like that. - {{User:Cobold/sig}} 12:19, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

Gone three days and I find a ton of new templates & finally some written policies about blocking, deleting and even sigs and color codes (Steve should have sastified what you wanted, WF99). ==Super Smash Bros. N64 Beta==
I bring up this issue here because it affects several pages and no one has cleared it up since ages. According to the article ''[[Super Smash Bros.#Trivia|Super Smash Bros.]]'', several characters such as Peach and Bowser were planned for the game, but got cut for different reasons. However, there is no reliable source that would confirm that (it came from SmashWiki, but they don't cite their sources, either). Furthermore, [[Beta Elements#Super Smash Bros.|Beta Elements]] claims the same, plus that Final Smashes were planned and that Masahiro Sakurai "has recordings of the character's voices during their Final Smash." In related sections, articles such as [[Bowser]] and [[Pit]] also claim that they were supposed to appear in the first ''Smash Bros.'' (along with a "citation needed" tag). Since no user has added citations since months, I suggest to just remove these parts as long as nobody has found a reliable source. --[[User:Grandy02|Grandy02]] 13:30, 12 July 2009 (EDT)
:The final smashes being planned for the original Smash Bros., along with the recorded voices, was as far as I recall it mentioned in Iwata Asks: SSBB. - {{User:Cobold/sig}} 09:07, 14 July 2009 (EDT)
::Okay, thanks. On the characters, [http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n01/n64/software/nus_p_nalj/smash/PostResult2.html a reference] has been added, it's a list of poll results from the Japanese ''Smash Bros.'' site, along with some side notes. The latter one indeed tell that Bowser, Dedede and Mewtwo were planned. But not Peach, Pit and Meowth. Well, I don't know Japanese so I can also say what the bad English of the online translator told me. Could somebody check, please? --[[User:Grandy02|Grandy02]] 12:58, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

This was mentioned briefly at [[MarioWiki:Personal images]] and so I researched what the main base, [[Wikipedia:Main Page|Wikipedia]], does for these awards. Basically, custom-made images (often stars) are "handed" (added) to user pages, with the name of the hander/awarder. Some users even have a subpage at [[Special:Mypage/Awards]] with a gallery of these. See [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Awards|here]] for more. While 100 awards is way too much for this wiki, I think occasional (once or twice a month) recognition for good contributions (possibly in certain fields), uploading, etc is a good idea (10?). Thoughts? <span style="font-family:Kunstler Script; color:#006633;"><font size="5">'''[[User:Wayoshi|W]]'''ayoshi</font></span><small> ( [[User talk:Wayoshi|T]]<tt>&middot;</tt>[[Special:Contributions/Wayoshi|C]]<tt>&middot;</tt>[[Special:Emailuser/Wayoshi|@]] )</small> <span class="plainlinks">[http://www.mariowiki.com/index.php/Special:Random http://www.mariowiki.com/images/2/24/Wayoshisig.png]</span> 22:53, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
==Weekly Polls==
The Administrative staff of the Super Mario Wiki have decided that the Weekly Polls will no longer be voted on by users. There's just way too much chaos on the Poll Selection page between duplicated poll suggestions, coding errors, biased votes, and getting a bunch of proposals that were intended to improve the polls, but never did anything. Besides, we've been getting too much focus on the polls instead of the actual wiki. We want our new members to contribute to our wiki by adding information to our articles, creating categories, etc. The overall process is just a total mess the way it is now.

==Funny Captions in Images==
Thus, every week, a new poll will be posted on the Main Page by me. {{User:Stooben Rooben/sig}} 14:52, 14 July 2009 (EDT)
I've noticed several images with captions that are "jokes".  For example, the Charlieton article has an image caption that reads, "Needs a shave?"  If such quips were added to the article itself, it would be deleted as vandalism.

So, should these captions be allowed, or reversed to more serious ones?[[User:Waluigi Freak 99|Waluigi Freak 99]] 18:39, 13 October 2006 (EDT)

Maybe something like "Just like Gargoyle Statues, they live to protect" or "Also called Rock Chomps". That is the kind of information that should be added. As for stating what game the image is from or an obvious description about the appearance, those are already stated in the article or are found in the file description. If any users don't know what captions to add, then they shouldn't add any at all and other users will write a caption for it. My point is not to make it too obvious, yet write something informative. Yes, that's what: Active users, this page and the FAQ talk page are for. ==Help Needed! Who Saved the ''Club Nintendo'' Comics?==
We're about 30 away as of right now. And we just hit 2,000 less than two months ago. --<span style=" -variant: small-caps;">'''[[User:Porplemontage|Steve]]''' (''[[User talk:Porplemontage|talk]]'')</span> 16:07, 22 October 2006 (EDT)
Sorry I'm posting this here, since it's not related to the wiki ''directly''. The creation of new articles and the improvement of old ones depends greatly on it, though. Let's get to the point: In the articles about ''[[Club Nintendo (magazine)|Club Nintendo]]'' comics, we used to have a link to [http://www.e-lation.net/site/comics.html this website], where you could download PDF versions of the comics. Problem is: They were taken off the website and I have no access to most of the comics anymore. So, if anyone of you has saved the comics while they were still online, I'd be more than glad if (s)he could tell me. Thanks in advance. {{User:Time Q/sig}} 16:18, 24 July 2009 (EDT)

Awesome! I'll make a lot of articles today so we can get 3,000 articles today. <span style="font-family:verdana; color:#red;"><font size="5">'''[[User:Paper Jorge|P]]'''aper '''Jorge'''</font></span><small> ( [[User talk:Paper Jorge|Need to tell me something? ==Chat Down==
It seems that [http://www.darkmyst.org Darkmyst]'s own main server is down, which makes all of its chatrooms down. Once that site works again, everything should be fine. {{User:Wayoshi/sig}} 10:10, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

So, on the one hand, this means that the Wiki is growing quickly. But on the other, it could mean that the articles aren't as high-quality as possible. Thoughts? Bear in mind I said "could". ==Unused Files problem - glitch?==
Many times I decide to delete some unused files I see some used images within this page that appear to be unused - clicking on them and watch their links you see nothing. For example, all the images from the article [[Kolorado]] are set here and they're all in use... What's that problem invading that page that the user {{user|RAP}} told me almost five months ago? {{User:Coincollector/sig}}
:When one of the images is linked to with a space between "Image:" and the name, it messes all the images in the page up (just like how the spacious categories are invisible to DPL). The Kolorado page's first image was linked to as <nowiki>[[File: Kolorado.PNG]]</nowiki>, which is why the images didn't register. It's strange how one little spacing error could wreak such havoc... - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 20:32, 7 August 2009 (EDT)

Ah, I see. Well, I'll take care about that. Thank you. {{User:Coincollector/sig}}

=="Real Name" in [[Special:Preferences]]==
(Apologies if I'm not in the right place.) This is about the field labelled "Real Name" in the preferences. I can't figure out where it appears in relation to your contributions. I'm told it will be used to provide attribution, so a logical place is the history or [[Special:Contributors]], but nothing so far.

Secondly, is there a way to get the signature to display GMT/UTC instead of EDT? (I know there's a preferences option, but it doesn't seem to affect signatures.) I don't like how it assumes I'm American and I would rather not have to add four to everything if I don't have to. [[User:Toadfan|Toadfan]] 10:33, 11 August 2009 (EDT)
:The Real Names appear on UserScore, which only the Sysops can access. That way, if you need attribution, we can confirm who you are, but you don't have to display your identity to the whole Internet (though that's not the only reason the page was restricted). The names might appear elsewhere as well, but I don't know for sure. As for the signatures, I'm pretty sure they can't be changed; they're set to EDT/EST because the Wiki itself is set to that time zone - it has nothing to do with individual Users' locations. Hopefully that answers your questions, but if you have any more, you can post them on [[MarioWiki talk:FAQ]]. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 21:53, 12 August 2009 (EDT)

==Game & Watch==
While there is around a dozen of ''Mario'' [[Game & Watch]] titles, the Wiki also has articles on many more Game & Watch games, since they were included in the ''Mario'' themed ''Game & Watch Gallery'' series. However, articles such as ''[[Ball]]'' handle those as if they were "real" ''Mario'' games. I think the non-''Mario'' Game & Watch titles should be handled like mini-games, since the only reason for the articles is that they were featured in the compilations. After all, this Mario Wiki and not Nintendo Wiki. The [[DSiWare]] article also lists all Game & Watch ports (only exact ports in this case and no ''Mario'' remakes), including those that don't feature any ''Mario'' characters. What do you think? --[[User:Grandy02|Grandy02]] 16:05, 14 August 2009 (EDT)
:The Modern versions of these titles ''are'' "real" ''[[Super Mario (franchise)|Super Mario]]'' games, but I agree that those articles should be dealt with in regards to the ''Game & Watch Gallery'' updates as opposed to the original games themselves. That means replacing their standard game infoboxes with special G&W Gallery Mini-game templates, and scrapping all the DSi information, correct? I think [[Manhole (Game & Watch)|Manhole]] is a good example of what we'd be striving for: a concise introduction, followed by the information about the original/classic game, and then the modern stuff. Perhaps to keep in step with the rest of the wiki's organization, there should be a "History" section with a "Background" sub-section dealing with the original game (i.e. the release date, the photo of the game, a mention of its DSiWare release, and any unique gameplay elements); the brunt of the original gameplay would then be included in the "Classic" sub-header of the "Game & Watch Gallery" section (covering the ''series'', not any one title in particular, seeing as some games, like  [[Chef (Game & Watch)|Chef]], appear in multiple galleries), with the "Modern" version once again bringing up the rear. Or, if all those headers seem superfluous, simply sticking to a "Background" header and a "Game & Watch Gallery" header with the "Classic" and "Modern" sub-headers would work too. I like the latter option the best, what about you guys? - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 20:14, 14 August 2009 (EDT)

== Boos and Goombas. ==
In the Japanese games, [[King Boo]] was originally two separate characters. Super Mario Sunshine had "Boss Teresa," while the rest have "King Teresa." Also, [[Big Boo|Atomic Boo]] is simply the Japanese name of [[Big Boo]]. What we call a [[Goomba]] was also originally two separate entities: Kuribon (SMW) and Kuribou (everywhere else.) So, should there be separate articles for these?

More generally, when the English and Japanese games contradict, what do we do? {{User:Twentytwofiftyseven/sig}} 04:03, 15 August 2009 (EDT)

The MarioWiki also won't be able to have Wikipedia's new style any time soon. We're not up to date with the latest MediaWiki version because it has conflicts with many extensions that we're using. I don't know what extensions exactly, but it's stuff like: Edit Count, Check User, the IRC Chat, patrollers, user renames, DPL, multi-upload, enhanced parser functions, random selections, YouTube embedding and "Keep your hands to yourself" which prevents you from editing user pages that don't belong to you. And we don't want to lose compability with some of those extensions just to have a different site layout. - {{User:Cobold/sig}} 10:04, 24 September 2009 (EDT)

==This Hacker==
I have herd a lot about some hacker Is this a very big Issue? Also I talked to {{User|Tar Boy}} at school he says he is planning to do similar things. {{User:GalacticPetey/sig}}
:MediaWiki software is very secure, and the passwords are hashed. It would be very hard for "Tar Boy" to actually hack this place. ::The troll who has been referred to as a hacker did not actually hack anything. What actually happened is that several users noticed their userpages had been changed to a pornographic image without their consent, and that they could not be changed back. Since under normal circumstances a userpage can only be edited by its owner or administrators, it was assumed that the wiki had been hacked. As it turned out, the troll had simply edited a few templates in common use with pornographic imagery, which requires no hacking. Those templates which were hit have been reverted and protected, making an attack of this nature more difficult in the future. {{User:Twentytwofiftyseven/sig}} 10:34, 26 September 2009 (EDT)

There are plenty of articles that were created long ago that have interesting information that could be included in that template. {{User:Stooben Rooben/sig}} 15:05, 5 October 2009 (EDT)
:Yes, but it's a nice way to show what's new on the wiki. {{User:Time Q/sig}} 15:16, 5 October 2009 (EDT)

It is no simple task to pick three interesting facts from new articles, while they have to be from different series, especially if a majority of the new articles contain BiS material. It was not easy to find something from Paper Mario and the Wario series between all the stuff, but I did my best. And on a side note: Saying things like "Do better, or I request removal" is kinda rude. - {{User:Edofenrir/sig}} 16:20, 5 October 2009 (EDT)

::I agree with Stooben. The new games are already getting lots of coverage regardless of what trivia we showcase; however, telling people interesting things about older, obscure titles will generate ''new'' interest and show people that we're not just another outlet for the latest BiS buzz. == Nintendo: Da best company in 2008 ==
According to and edition published in ''BussinessWeek'' magazine, Nintendo was declared as the best company in the world, while Google and the Apple company remain in second and third place respectively. :::::::::It just sounds very unlikely for Nintendo to permit this without taking any measurements. - {{User:Edofenrir/sig}} 14:58, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
::::::::::Yeah, I think we should remove that from the template. We shouldn't risk putting fake news on our main page. However, if we find proof that that Twitter account really belongs to Martinet (there is no link from his homepage, for example), we can put it back, IMO. {{User:Time Q/sig}} 15:32, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
If anything, it's good that this news is spreading across the internet. Because if the account is a fake one, extensive coverage on the internet is the only thing that can make Charles Martinet notice it. It's no big news so it's worth taking the risk that it might be wrong. - {{User:Cobold/sig}} 15:33, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
:Well, even if the outcome might be good in the end, putting unconfirmed news in this section bears a certain risk. Maybe Ch. It bears risks for our reputation and credibility... - {{User:Edofenrir/sig}} 15:45, 17 October 2009 (EDT)

:::It's just the news template. I don't think it is a big meter for our credibility. If it's a real faker we can just put a message up there saying that, it would also be a worthy news. We made all precautions already, so nobody can accuse us as "liars". - {{User:Cobold/sig}} 15:53, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
::::I think the info could stay like it is now. It just says the truth, that a guy at twitter who might be Charles Martinet said something about a new Mario game. With no speculation added. - {{User:Edofenrir/sig}} 15:54, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
:::::You're right, what's in the template is correct no matter if the account is true or fake, so we're no liars. But the question is whether we want to risk spreading fake news. I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't and that it's not "just" the news template, but a major source of information for our visitors. As long as there is no other user agreeing with me here, I have no problem with keeping it, though. {{User:Time Q/sig}} 15:59, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
::::::I can understand your concern. Fans can be a little overconfident if it comes down to news. In a flash, there are new "facts" added and then we have a big heap of rumour-ruckus. I just mean if we can't reach consensus, the template would be a decent compromise as it is now. - {{User:Edofenrir/sig}} 16:05, 17 October 2009 (EDT)

==DS successor to appear late 2010?==
It's not confirmed, it's some flying rumor for now.
http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/10/13/nvidia-tegra-wins-contract-for-next-gen-nintendo-ds.aspx Basically some company nVidia Tegra is going to partner up with Nintendo in 2010/2011 time frame to create the successor of the DS. Here's an excerpt from the article.

'Given the fact that Nintendo DS hardware is based upon 16-bit and 32-bit ARM cores, it looks like Next-Gen DS could be backwards compatible with the DS application library. According to our sources, all of the apps that came for old DS could run on a single ARM11 core, yet alone the next-gen CorTex-A9-based Tegra, leaving graphics subsystem to do "something smarter". {{User|Lindsayoris15}}

:I found that info, too, if nintendo uses this new video card for the next handheld console, it will more powerful than the wii. However it's just a rumor and it's unlikely that this can be thrue; think about the success that is getting the DS now... {{User:Coincollector/sig}}

By successor do you mean DS4 right? Nintendo wouldn't make another DS until 2011-2012 since the DSi was just released back in April. And stronger than the Wii? I doubt that. That is very likely fake. {{user:Fawfulfury65/sig}}

I read this earlier, along with the spiking rumors of the Wii HD when Shiggy favored nice graphics while focusing on the gameplay, Shiggy and Nintendo I hear. I think this is considered true, since there's no "Rumor" or "???" in the titles. :P However, we remain unsure if the next gen DS will be released next year, or the year after that. If you guys want to know about the Wii HD rumor spike, here: http://www.industrygamers.com/news/miyamoto-on-hd-graphics-nintendos-games-will-move-along-with-progression-of-technology/ {{User:RAP/sig}}

==Error With Patrolling?==
I think I might have found an error with Patrolling: Whenever a Sysop or Bureaucrat marks a revision as Patrolled, it is logged. however, whenever a Patroller marks a revision as Patrolled, it doesn't show up in the log. I don't know if this means that the patrolling aspect of patrollers doesn't work, or if it just isn't show8ing up in the logs. Either way, I feel that this needs to be fixed. {{User:Super Paper Mario Bros./sig}} 10:55, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
:Patrollers can't mark their own edits as patrolled. It has always been that way. And as far as I know, it can't be fixed. - {{User:Cobold/sig}} 14:01, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
::I don't know if SMB is speaking of the same thing but a similar point I brought up in chat yesterday is that we patrollers don't have the capability of directly marking a revision as patrolled, so we always have to use "Patrol edits" to do so. It would be much handier if we had a "mark this edit as patrolled" button, so we can mark something as reviewed directly, instead of having to wait that the revision pops up in "Patrol edits" some time. - {{User:Edofenrir/sig}} 14:52, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
:::This can be fixed by putting this in LocalSettings.php: "$wgGroupPermissions['patrollers']['patrol'] = true;" <span style="font-family:verdana; color:#red;"><font size="5">'''[[User talk:Yoshario|Y]]'''oshario'''</font></span>[[File:Yoshi Mario Hat SM64DS.png|30px]]
::Actually, that is a good issue as well, but I meant the patrol log. Whenever Patrollers patrol (and mark OTHER people's edits as patrolled) it doesn't show up in the log. {{User:Super Paper Mario Bros./sig}} 20:56, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
:I always thought it was silly that Patrollers weren't given autopatrol for their edits, and by the sounds of it they can't even patrol other edits with the same ease as higher Admins, so why are they even ''called'' Patrollers? I impulsively patrol everything on Recent Changes, but I rarely have to fix Patroller's edits and I'd just as soon let them be without watching over their shoulders - save the red exclamation marks for edits that probably do require attention. - {{User:Walkazo/sig}} 18:02, 20 October 2009 (EDT)

== Mario Awards IV ==
I'd like to pass on control of Mario Awards IV to St00by, and personally suggest keeping it at 30 Mario Awards and 10 Fail Awards &ndash; 50 ended up being too much last year. I still will host the actual polls since I'd like the $200 commitment to be worth something, and they worked very very well last year. If St00by could get AIM, I am still on there as WayoshiM everyday talking to ''Price is Right'' and ''Wheel of Fortune'' pals and I can be consulted there.

Otherwise...I am done with this place on a regular basis. Nothing really went wrong...I think I outgrew this place. Chat is pretty much a dump, I never got into the forum, and even though I contributed BiS clothing recently, I don't have the drive to contribute the project on a level that ''Mario Kart DS'' was (I consider that the highest peak). And then somehow, I never was able to maintain a power position for various reasons...and I still have major grudges against Steve overall, but I guess I'm going to have to let that go now.

Thank you everyone for the memories, and I will check in every once in awhile,

New Mario game in the E3

Actual research on Mario gravity physics

Well, this is funny. I just found out an article about the Mario gravity physics back in Kotaku, grabbing a few resources for me to utilize fully. ...This is when I stumbled upon this. :O Here's the link. Acceleration Due to Gravity: Super Mario Brothers

Any comments would be welcome here. :o RAP.pngRAP... When the wiki's that lazy, I bet this section would not likely be removed. ;o

I wonder how people have time for that. - Consider all the different gravity elements in Super Mario Galaxy. Some of them make Mario jump even higher than before to simulate "low gravity". - Cobold (talk · contribs) 07:36, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

interesting..... I wonder the gravity compared to our own. [[Lu-igi board]] 11:50, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

@Cobold: As far as I know, such things are usually made by intellectual people for (pseudo)science fun, it isn't to be taken really seriously. ;-) Like the German Donaldist (Donald Duck researcher) who created the map of Duckburg within 13 years (German article), or the Donaldism in general. --Grandy02 12:02, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

I know it's just for fun. I remember reading a German book about how Donald Duck should be rated 18 because of all the crimes being committed in the comic books. They took a quite judicial approach on that, and the Mario "scientific research" of the gravity sounds exactly like that. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 12:19, 9 June 2009 (EDT)

Suggestions

I'm not even much of a active member here, so not really my place to make suggestions. But nonetheless...

1) Most wikis (including the one that I'm an admin of) have their main page protected. Because, during a vandal strike the main page is usually a target. So, unless someone has already protected this one, it would be a good idea to do so.
2) Also, have you ever considered a bot to welcome new users? Mandi (T) 17:11, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Our main page is protected. And a bot isn't a real person. When a real person welcomes another user, it means more than when a bot does it. YosharioYoshi holding Mario's Cap artwork from Super Mario 64 DS.

Super Smash Bros. N64 Beta

I bring up this issue here because it affects several pages and no one has cleared it up since ages. According to the article Super Smash Bros., several characters such as Peach and Bowser were planned for the game, but got cut for different reasons. However, there is no reliable source that would confirm that (it came from SmashWiki, but they don't cite their sources, either). Furthermore, Beta Elements claims the same, plus that Final Smashes were planned and that Masahiro Sakurai "has recordings of the character's voices during their Final Smash." In related sections, articles such as Bowser and Pit also claim that they were supposed to appear in the first Smash Bros. (along with a "citation needed" tag). Since no user has added citations since months, I suggest to just remove these parts as long as nobody has found a reliable source. --Grandy02 13:30, 12 July 2009 (EDT)

The final smashes being planned for the original Smash Bros., along with the recorded voices, was as far as I recall it mentioned in Iwata Asks: SSBB. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:07, 14 July 2009 (EDT)
Okay, thanks. On the characters, a reference has been added, it's a list of poll results from the Japanese Smash Bros. site, along with some side notes. The latter one indeed tell that Bowser, Dedede and Mewtwo were planned. But not Peach, Pit and Meowth. Well, I don't know Japanese so I can also say what the bad English of the online translator told me. Could somebody check, please? --Grandy02 12:58, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

Weekly Polls

The Administrative staff of the Super Mario Wiki have decided that the Weekly Polls will no longer be voted on by users. There's just way too much chaos on the Poll Selection page between duplicated poll suggestions, coding errors, biased votes, and getting a bunch of proposals that were intended to improve the polls, but never did anything. Besides, we've been getting too much focus on the polls instead of the actual wiki. We want our new members to contribute to our wiki by adding information to our articles, creating categories, etc. The overall process is just a total mess the way it is now.

Thus, every week, a new poll will be posted on the Main Page by me. — Stooben Rooben 14:52, 14 July 2009 (EDT)

Yes, SR and Tucayo have the ultimate authority though I don't think an "Ask Doopliss" section would be in merit as we already have the FAQ for that. Marioguy1 (talk)
If either one doesn't answer by the end of the month, I'll change my sign-up to N/A, so that they aren't expecting an article from me. @ Marioguy1, I was talking about questions whose answers are not listed in the FAQs. -Doopliss rocks (talk)

Yes, that's what: Active users, this page and the FAQ talk page are for. An ask Doopliss section would be available only once a month and therefore would discourage users from asking questions at any other time than that. Maybe we could make a page called "Mariowiki:Questions" where you post your question and another user who knows the answer answers it. Maybe...you know what, that's a good idea! I might make up a rough draft of that in my spare time...you could archive the page every 20 headers...maybe...Marioguy1 (talk)

That's actually a really good idea. I was going to change my sign-up soon anyway because I realized not enough people would give me questions in time. I was just trying to get more involved. Help Needed! Who Saved the Club Nintendo Comics?

Sorry I'm posting this here, since it's not related to the wiki directly. The creation of new articles and the improvement of old ones depends greatly on it, though. Let's get to the point: In the articles about Club Nintendo comics, we used to have a link to this website, where you could download PDF versions of the comics. Problem is: They were taken off the website and I have no access to most of the comics anymore. So, if anyone of you has saved the comics while they were still online, I'd be more than glad if (s)he could tell me. Thanks in advance. Time Questions 16:18, 24 July 2009 (EDT)

  • IE: hold Ctrl while clicking Refresh, or press Ctrl-F5;

Unused Files problem - glitch?

Many times I decide to delete some unused files I see some used images within this page that appear to be unused - clicking on them and watch their links you see nothing. For example, all the images from the article Kolorado are set here and they're all in use... What's that problem invading that page that the user RAP (talk) told me almost five months ago? ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

When one of the images is linked to with a space between "Image:" and the name, it messes all the images in the page up (just like how the spacious categories are invisible to DPL). The Kolorado page's first image was linked to as [[File: Kolorado.PNG]], which is why the images didn't register. It's strange how one little spacing error could wreak such havoc... - Walkazo 20:32, 7 August 2009 (EDT)

Ah, I see. Well, I'll take care about that. Thank you. ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

"Real Name" in Special:Preferences

(Apologies if I'm not in the right place.) This is about the field labelled "Real Name" in the preferences. I can't figure out where it appears in relation to your contributions. I'm told it will be used to provide attribution, so a logical place is the history or Special:Contributors, but nothing so far.

Secondly, is there a way to get the signature to display GMT/UTC instead of EDT? (I know there's a preferences option, but it doesn't seem to affect signatures.) I don't like how it assumes I'm American and I would rather not have to add four to everything if I don't have to. Toadfan 10:33, 11 August 2009 (EDT)

The Real Names appear on UserScore, which only the Sysops can access. Hopefully that answers your questions, but if you have any more, you can post them on MarioWiki talk:FAQ. - Walkazo 21:53, 12 August 2009 (EDT)
Actually, add "?action=credits" to the end of a page's URL to see the "real names" of the contributors. eg. http://www.mariowiki.com/Talk:Main_Page?action=credits - 2257(Talk) 22:05, 12 August 2009 (EDT)

Game & Watch

While there is around a dozen of Mario Game & Watch titles, the Wiki also has articles on many more Game & Watch games, since they were included in the Mario themed Game & Watch Gallery series. However, articles such as Ball handle those as if they were "real" Mario games. I think the non-Mario Game & Watch titles should be handled like mini-games, since the only reason for the articles is that they were featured in the compilations. After all, this Mario Wiki and not Nintendo Wiki. The DSiWare article also lists all Game & Watch ports (only exact ports in this case and no Mario remakes), including those that don't feature any Mario characters. What do you think? --Grandy02 16:05, 14 August 2009 (EDT)

The Modern versions of these titles are "real" Super Mario games, but I agree that those articles should be dealt with in regards to the Game & Watch Gallery updates as opposed to the original games themselves. That means replacing their standard game infoboxes with special G&W Gallery Mini-game templates, and scrapping all the DSi information, correct? I think Manhole is a good example of what we'd be striving for: a concise introduction, followed by the information about the original/classic game, and then the modern stuff. Perhaps to keep in step with the rest of the wiki's organization, there should be a "History" section with a "Background" sub-section dealing with the original game (i.e. the release date, the photo of the game, a mention of its DSiWare release, and any unique gameplay elements); the brunt of the original gameplay would then be included in the "Classic" sub-header of the "Game & Watch Gallery" section (covering the series, not any one title in particular, seeing as some games, like Chef, appear in multiple galleries), with the "Modern" version once again bringing up the rear. Or, if all those headers seem superfluous, simply sticking to a "Background" header and a "Game & Watch Gallery" header with the "Classic" and "Modern" sub-headers would work too. I like the latter option the best, what about you guys? - Walkazo 20:14, 14 August 2009 (EDT)
Sounds good. Could you make the infobox? --Grandy02 06:37, 18 August 2009 (EDT)
I'm afraid I can't - or at least, not at this moment. I haven't learnt the "how-to"s of infoboxes yet, and I don't have enough time to learn right now (regardless of how simple it may be). Sorry. - Walkazo 22:09, 22 August 2009 (EDT)

Boos and Goombas.

In the Japanese games, King Boo was originally two separate characters. Super Mario Sunshine had "Boss Teresa," while the rest have "King Teresa." Also, Atomic Boo is simply the Japanese name of Big Boo. What we call a Goomba was also originally two separate entities: Kuribon (SMW) and Kuribou (everywhere else.) So, should there be separate articles for these?

More generally, when the English and Japanese games contradict, what do we do? - 2257(Talk) 04:03, 15 August 2009 (EDT)

i say we should stick to the english, and mention the japanese thing in the page TucayoSig.png 123!

Wanted Pages

I've been browsing the wanted pages for ones that I can create and I've noticed around page 517, there is a wanted page titled Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (I just copied and pasted the title then put the brackets). But when I did the same to the title of the game, The link appears and I just don't see a difference in spelling or anything Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Is that just me or are these identical and there's a glitch

Games page

I've added a comment on the Games talk page and would like to have feedback from you guys. The games page is a very important page on the Wiki that has been lying around abandoned forever and we should create some guidlines for its structure, maybe have a proposal as well. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 12:46, 15 September 2009 (EDT)

Beta Super Mario Wiki

Couldn't you realase that thing? I think it's very useful.--MATEOELBACAN 17:01, 23 September 2009 (EDT)

Uh... What? If you are refering to a MarioWiki equivalent to the Wikipedia Beta, we don't have one, at least none that I have heard of. · SMB (Talk) · 17:05, 23 September 2009 (EDT)

- Cobold (talk · contribs) 10:04, 24 September 2009 (EDT)

This Hacker

I have herd a lot about some hacker Is this a very big Issue? Also I talked to Tar Boy (talk) at school he says he is planning to do similar things. Petey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in TimeGalacticPeteyPetey Piranha in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

MediaWiki software is very secure, and the passwords are hashed. It would be very hard for "Tar Boy" to actually hack this place. So it's not an issue. YosharioYoshi holding Mario's Cap artwork from Super Mario 64 DS.
The troll who has been referred to as a hacker did not actually hack anything. - 2257(Talk) 10:34, 26 September 2009 (EDT)

Question

I think I heard this somewhere, but didn't we have a proposal or something on character infoboxes on SSB character pages? In my opinion, it seems a little silly to base the three 'Did You Know?' facts off of our newest articles solely. There are plenty of articles that were created long ago that have interesting information that could be included in that template. — Stooben Rooben 15:05, 5 October 2009 (EDT)

Yes, but it's a nice way to show what's new on the wiki. Time Questions 15:16, 5 October 2009 (EDT)

- Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 16:20, 5 October 2009 (EDT)

I agree with Stooben. The new games are already getting lots of coverage regardless of what trivia we showcase; however, telling people interesting things about older, obscure titles will generate new interest and show people that we're not just another outlet for the latest BiS buzz. (I also agree with Edofenrir and Tucayo's opinions about the complaints...) - Walkazo 00:01, 7 October 2009 (EDT)

Nintendo: Da best company in 2008

According to and edition published in BussinessWeek magazine, Nintendo was declared as the best company in the world, while Google and the Apple company remain in second and third place respectively. I'm not surprised. Microsoft & Sony may have a good showing in the US, but in Europe and especially in Japan Nintendo is dominating the charts.

Not really. I'm sceptical. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 14:29, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
Me, too. Recently, there was a Twitter user in Germany who impersonated a major German politician on Twitter. Major news papers cited the tweets of this account, and people of political parties chatted with the "politician", the account gained thousands of followers. And this fake worked for several months. --Grandy02 14:37, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
I hope noone minds, but I altered the text on that news template. As Grandy02 said, we don't know for sure that this is true. I doubt that Charles Martinet would be allowed to make such an announcement before Nintendo has confirmed anything. This whole affair stinks. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 14:51, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
If you check his previous messages, he's done it before. Still we got to be sceptical. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:55, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
It just sounds very unlikely for Nintendo to permit this without taking any measurements. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 14:58, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
Yeah, I think we should remove that from the template. We shouldn't risk putting fake news on our main page. However, if we find proof that that Twitter account really belongs to Martinet (there is no link from his homepage, for example), we can put it back, IMO. Time Questions 15:32, 17 October 2009 (EDT)

If anything, it's good that this news is spreading across the internet. Because if the account is a fake one, extensive coverage on the internet is the only thing that can make Charles Martinet notice it. It's no big news so it's worth taking the risk that it might be wrong. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 15:33, 17 October 2009 (EDT)

Well, even if the outcome might be good in the end, putting unconfirmed news in this section bears a certain risk. Maybe Ch. Martinet might notice the fake announcement, but on the other hand, maybe visitors might think of us as liars and such... It bears risks for our reputation and credibility... - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 15:45, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
Yes, and we really shouldn't worry about whether Martinet notices the account or not. We're an independent wiki. Time Questions 15:51, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
It's just the news template. I don't think it is a big meter for our credibility. If it's a real faker we can just put a message up there saying that, it would also be a worthy news. We made all precautions already, so nobody can accuse us as "liars". - Cobold (talk · contribs) 15:53, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
I think the info could stay like it is now. It just says the truth, that a guy at twitter who might be Charles Martinet said something about a new Mario game. With no speculation added. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 15:54, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
You're right, what's in the template is correct no matter if the account is true or fake, so we're no liars. But the question is whether we want to risk spreading fake news. I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't and that it's not "just" the news template, but a major source of information for our visitors. As long as there is no other user agreeing with me here, I have no problem with keeping it, though. Time Questions 15:59, 17 October 2009 (EDT)
I can understand your concern. Fans can be a little overconfident if it comes down to news. In a flash, there are new "facts" added and then we have a big heap of rumour-ruckus. I just mean if we can't reach consensus, the template would be a decent compromise as it is now. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 16:05, 17 October 2009 (EDT)

I usually read spanish videogames-involving blogs and I found recently an interview with Miyamoto about the successor for the Wii and a possible "little big planet"-style Super Mario Bros. But Miyamoto only said that it was a possibility, not that it's actually being made.
Maybe we should simply ask Porplemontage about his opinion on this news bullet. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:35, 17 October 2009 (EDT)

DS successor to appear late 2010?

It's not confirmed, it's some flying rumor for now. http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/10/13/nvidia-tegra-wins-contract-for-next-gen-nintendo-ds.aspx Basically some company nVidia Tegra is going to partner up with Nintendo in 2010/2011 time frame to create the successor of the DS. Here's an excerpt from the article.

'Given the fact that Nintendo DS hardware is based upon 16-bit and 32-bit ARM cores, it looks like Next-Gen DS could be backwards compatible with the DS application library. According to our sources, all of the apps that came for old DS could run on a single ARM11 core, yet alone the next-gen CorTex-A9-based Tegra, leaving graphics subsystem to do "something smarter". Lindsayoris15 (talk)

I found that info, too, if nintendo uses this new video card for the next handheld console, it will more powerful than the wii. However it's just a rumor and it's unlikely that this can be thrue; think about the success that is getting the DS now...

¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

By successor do you mean DS4 right? Nintendo wouldn't make another DS until 2011-2012 since the DSi was just released back in April. And stronger than the Wii? I doubt that. That is very likely fake. Fawfulfury65

I read this earlier, along with the spiking rumors of the Wii HD when Shiggy favored nice graphics while focusing on the gameplay, Shiggy and Nintendo I hear. I think this is considered true, since there's no "Rumor" or "???" in the titles. :P However, we remain unsure if the next gen DS will be released next year, or the year after that. Error With Patrolling?

I think I might have found an error with Patrolling: Whenever a Sysop or Bureaucrat marks a revision as Patrolled, it is logged. however, whenever a Patroller marks a revision as Patrolled, it doesn't show up in the log. I don't know if this means that the patrolling aspect of patrollers doesn't work, or if it just isn't show8ing up in the logs. Either way, I feel that this needs to be fixed. · SMB (Talk) · 10:55, 19 October 2009 (EDT)

Patrollers can't mark their own edits as patrolled. It has always been that way. And as far as I know, it can't be fixed. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 14:01, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
I don't know if SMB is speaking of the same thing but a similar point I brought up in chat yesterday is that we patrollers don't have the capability of directly marking a revision as patrolled, so we always have to use "Patrol edits" to do so. It would be much handier if we had a "mark this edit as patrolled" button, so we can mark something as reviewed directly, instead of having to wait that the revision pops up in "Patrol edits" some time. - Gabumon from the Digimon franchise Gabumon(talk) 14:52, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
This can be fixed by putting this in LocalSettings.php: "$wgGroupPermissions['patrollers']['patrol'] = true;" YosharioYoshi holding Mario's Cap artwork from Super Mario 64 DS.
Actually, that is a good issue as well, but I meant the patrol log. Whenever Patrollers patrol (and mark OTHER people's edits as patrolled) it doesn't show up in the log. · SMB (Talk) · 20:56, 19 October 2009 (EDT)
I always thought it was silly that Patrollers weren't given autopatrol for their edits, and by the sounds of it they can't even patrol other edits with the same ease as higher Admins, so why are they even called Patrollers? I impulsively patrol everything on Recent Changes, but I rarely have to fix Patroller's edits and I'd just as soon let them be without watching over their shoulders - save the red exclamation marks for edits that probably do require attention. - Walkazo 18:02, 20 October 2009 (EDT)

Mario Awards IV

I'd like to pass on control of Mario Awards IV to St00by, and personally suggest keeping it at 30 Mario Awards and 10 Fail Awards – 50 ended up being too much last year. I still will host the actual polls since I'd like the $200 commitment to be worth something, and they worked very very well last year. If St00by could get AIM, I am still on there as WayoshiM everyday talking to Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune pals and I can be consulted there.

Otherwise...I am done with this place on a regular basis. Nothing really went wrong...I think I outgrew this place. Chat is pretty much a dump, I never got into the forum, and even though I contributed BiS clothing recently, I don't have the drive to contribute the project on a level that Mario Kart DS was (I consider that the highest peak). And then somehow, I never was able to maintain a power position for various reasons...and I still have major grudges against Steve overall, but I guess I'm going to have to let that go now.

Thank you everyone for the memories, and I will check in every once in awhile,
