World 1-1 is the name of the first level in many Mario games, especially the Mario side-scrollers. Besides World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. 2, Goombas and Koopa Troopas are found every World 1-1. Typically, World 1-1 is a grassland. Most of the time, World 1-1 introduces the player to the basic mechanics of a game. Obviously, World 1-1 is followed by World 1-2.

The Original World 1-1

The unforgettable original World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. is notable by many Mario fans and most of them, most likely, have the first level memorized, as it is easy to memorize and memorable. It has been re-done in many games, fangames and official games alike.

World 1-1 contains the basics of the Super Mario Bros. game, getting the player ready for the journey ahead. It consists of things like Mushrooms, standard enemies such as Goombas and Koopa Troopas, a lot of Coins, a hidden secret bonus area, Fire Flowers, deadly gaps, and so forth.

Level Guide

World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. starts out on a brick path, apparentally a path that was once a walkway in a town of the Mushroom Kingdom. (See Super Mario Bros. article for story.) It starts with a Goomba walking toward Mario with the memorable first Q-Block and then the six block triangle formation of Question Blocks and regular Blocks, a Mushroom inside the left block. Then a set of Pipes await Mario with Goombas inbetween them. The final pipe among the set leads to a bonus area of coins and is enter-able. There is a gap following with a Question Block containing a Fireflower inside, Goombas coming down from a big row of blocks above, which are best to be walked upon.

Afterward, a block down below contains ten Coins that Mario can achieve by Jumping at the right time repeatedly underneath it. Then there is the notable Question Block triangle formation, which contains no regular blocks. The top block contains a Fireflower or a Mushroom if the player is regular Mario, rather than Super Mario. Upcoming are some Question blocks and Blocks, then a pyramid-like mini-set of unbreakable blocks with a gap in the middle, then after that is another set of unbreakable blocks, this time with a gap in the middle that Mario can fall into and get KOed. Then, there is another pipe that is unenterable, with two Goombas and a set of Question Blocks with coins inside.

After that is the Ending Staircase for the level, and the Flag afterward.
