Donkey Kong Jr. was the name of the current Donkey Kong during his youth while his dad, Cranky Kong, was known by the moniker Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong Jr. is the star of the first sequel to a Mario game, Donkey Kong Jr. (arcade). In this game, Donkey Kong Jr. must save his dad, who has been kidnapped by the villainous Mario. The young Kong must climb vines while avoiding enemies Mario sends out. Junior had to collect keys to open up the cage his father was imprisoned in. Additionally, Donkey Kong Jr. could drop fruits on enemies to defeat them. In the end, Donkey Kong Jr. saves his father from Mario’s cage.

Donkey Kong Jr. appeared as a playable character in Super Mario Kart. He is a heavyweight and as such has similar attributes to Bowser. His weapon of choice was the Banana, which he would litter the racetracks with.

Donkey Kong Jr. is also a playable character in Mario Tennis. His current form is also a playable character. (Similarly, Mario appears in his current form and as Baby Mario.)

Donkey Kong Junior has own series of educational games for the NES and PC. He occasionally makes appearances in other games such as Donkey Kong ‘94 and the Game & Watch Gallery series.
