Dino Piranha
The Dino Piranha is a large boss in the video game Super Mario Galaxy. The boss lives in the Good Egg Galaxy. It is inside an egg when Mario first encounters it. Its egg is cracked when Mario crashes into it with the power of a Launch Star. The Dino Piranha then starts moving around from inside the egg, and when Mario attacks its tail, this will start a battle.
Appearance
Dino Piranha's head looks like that of Petey Piranha, though its body is much different. The Dino Piranha's body beneath the Piranha Plant head is that of a dinosaur's, with a green hue and has light green lips. Its tail has a brown orb at the end of it with texture like a seed. When it first breaks out of the egg its head is purple, but when enraged it turns red with anger, and when it is defeated it turns sickly pale.
The creature (or a similar creature) is fought once again at the Melty Molten Galaxy. This version of Dino Piranha is called Fiery Dino Piranha. Its body is dark red, and its egg is black with red spots. Its petals are similar to that of a palm tree, and has white lips, in contrast to the other one. Its tail lights on fire, it can leave a fiery trail behind it, and in his final form it shoots fireballs.
Both forms of Dino Piranha let out high pitched, infantile squeals when attacked or enraged.
Combat
When Mario smashes into the egg containing the Dino Piranha, the egg cracks a little and its tail pops out. The bottom of the egg breaks open so Dino Piranha can move about while still in the egg. Mario must run up to its tail as it is walking around and he must attack it by Star Spinning. This will cause its tail to fly back and smash the rest of the egg open. Dino Piranha is now fully revealed and starts running around the planet. Mario must hit its tail twice more; then, Dino Piranha turns a sickly color and explodes, revealing a Power Star. Fiery Dino Pirahna's battle is very similar. However, he can now spit fireballs, and its tail quickly changes from a normal state to burning hot. It can only be attacked when its tail reverts to normal.
Trivia
- In the game's ending, the Dino Piranha appears on the castle grounds next to a circle of Goombas with pumpkins on them and Toads playing.
- The theme music while fighting Dino Piranha is the same as while fighting Tarantox.
