Buster Beetles[1][2] are strong and quick-moving bipedal Buzzy Beetles that throw White Blocks at Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. 3. The player can defeat Buster Beetles with any attack for 100 points, as, unlike most other members of the Buzzy Beetle family, Buster Beetles are not impervious to fireballs, nor do they hide in their shells when stomped on. Upon defeat, they yield 100 points.

A total of 28 Buster Beetles appear in Super Mario Bros. 3, with two in World 5-1 (where, in the absence of White Blocks, they simply appear as quick-moving enemies, not showing their throwing ability yet), seven in the second pathway of World 5-2, another seven in World 6-5, six in World 6-8, and another six in World 6-10. Seven more appear in Ground Work, the 25th level of World-e in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, bringing the total up to 35. As with Buzzy Beetles, Buster Beetles mostly appear in underground caverns.

Aside from remakes, Buster Beetles do not make any other appearances, but one can be seen on the box art for Super Mario Bros. Print World. Furthermore, unshelled blue Koopa Troopas from Super Mario World and Outmaways from Super Mario Bros. Wonder both attack in a similar way to Buster Beetles by kicking blocks and other objects at the player, though both enemies also have the added ability to stop and kick back an incoming shell, block, or other throwable projectile like Goombas, Bob-ombs, or enemies spat out by Yoshi when ridden by Luigi.

Block-throwing Buzzy Beetle

When Mario approaches, it throws White Blocks at him. Despite this aggressiveness, its defense is weak. It is the only one among the Buzzy Beetle series that can be attacked by a stomping attack. Let's defeat it by stomping on it.
