History

In Yoshi's Island DS, Bowser is looking for the seven Star Children and orders Kamek to kidnap all the babies from the Mushroom Kingdom, including Baby Donkey Kong. For unknown reasons he is left behind before arriving at Bowser's Castle.

Yoshi and Baby Mario find Baby DK in Baby DK, the Jungle King!. He later helps in saving Baby Peach from the Grinders and after saving her, he decides to join Yoshi and the babies.

After a long journey they arrived at Bowser's Castle. When they arrived at the top of the castle, they fought Baby Bowser and then Bowser, defeating both of them thus saving Baby Luigi and the other babies. Baby Donkey Kong is revealed to be one of the seven Star Children.

Aside from being the most powerful baby, he has multiple abilities that help the Yoshis many times:

  • He can climb vines and chains, even hang onto a swinging rope and using the momentum to move forward.
  • If the player presses +Control Pad down and then the swallowing button (either Y Button or B Button depending on control settings), Baby DK can do a shoulder charge that can break through dirt walls, some enemies, and tough blocks.
  • Eggs thrown by Yoshi have an explosive effect and it is possible to defeat more than one enemy and activate Winged Clouds, defeat enemies, or grab items just out of reach by a wall by the mini-blast.
  • When a Yoshi Ground Pounds on poles, the pole goes all the way down on the first try, relating to DK's power.
  • With Baby DK, Yoshi can barely Flutter Jump, due to his weight.
  • After Bowser is defeated the first time, Baby Donkey Kong helps Yoshi by defeating Giant Bowser. He rides on a Yellow Yoshi and can help throw giant eggs at Bowser.

Mario Super Sluggers

Baby Donkey Kong is playable in Mario Super Sluggers for the Wii console. This is his first appearance in a Mario sports game, where he appears as an unlockable player. In Challenge Mode, he helps Mario and the others beat Bowser and his son Bowser Jr..

His bat consists of a banana. Baby DK's batting entrance includes him rolling. He has good chemistry with Yoshi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, and Tiny Kong; his chemistry is neutral with Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, however; he has bad chemistry with King K. Rool and Kritters. His fielding ability is Clamber, meaning he can climb walls to catch the ball.

Baby DK has a very high fielding stat, along with a decent batting stat, but he is bad at running and pitching. He bats with his left hand, while fielding with his right hand.

Baby Donkey Kong is available in the Mario Super Sluggers online card collection. He is from the first characters to be released, but is removed and made available later. In Double Play he can be combined with Donkey Kong to get the level 2 card, Donkey Kong Star Swing. His rookie year is 2006, which refers to the year he debuted.

Character Description

Physical Description

In Baby Donkey Kong's first appearance, he has a red and yellow bib, similar to Donkey Kong's tie. His bib has the initials, "DK" on it. He has brown fur, with a little curl of hair on his head, just like Donkey Kong. Baby Donkey Kong appears with big black eyes. In Mario Super Sluggers, there is only one difference, he has a small tail. Baby DK also has two little nostrils, another physical quality he shares with Donkey Kong.

Personality

In Yoshi's Island DS, Baby DK is very strong. He is able to bust through big clumps of rock. When Yoshi is attacked and loses Baby DK, Baby DK cries very low and soft. This is different than the other babies, which are clearly more sensitive. He also likes bananas, which is his baseball bat in Mario Super Sluggers. He also has good chemistry with Yoshi and the babies. This is due to their adventure in Yoshi's Island DS.

Official Profiles and Statistics

Online Card Description

Baby DK has the most stamina of all the baby players. And while he isn't the strongest pitcher, he has long monkey limbs that are very useful in the outfield. Like many of his Kong buddies, he can cover some ground.
