“This is a Crazee Dayzee. Crazee Dayzees look cute, but you won't think they're so cute after they attack you!”
Goombario, Paper Mario

Template:Species-infobox Crazee Dayzees are enemies first seen in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Although they may look like small, cute, anthropomorphic flower children, they posses a very powerful voice that can put even the strongest of enemies to sleep.

They later appear the Paper Mario series and the Yoshi's Island sequel, Yoshi's Island DS.

History

Yoshi series

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Their first appearance was in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, they act as minor recurring enemies throughout the game. Crazee Dayzees are basically the same as Shy Guys in terms of gameplay, with the only difference between them is that if eaten and spat out, they will live.

Yoshi's Island DS

Crazee Dayzees appear again in the sequel Yoshi's Island DS where they once again act as enemies and are exactly the same as they were in the first game. They are found in the following levels: Ba-dum BUM!, Hit the M Blocks!, Mario's Fleet Feet, Baby Mario and Baby Peach: Dynamic Duo and Donuts and Eggs.

Paper Mario series

Paper Mario

Template:PM1enemy Crazee Dayzees make their first appearance outside of the Yoshi series in Paper Mario, where they appear as enemies in Flower Fields where they would attack Mario on sight. They often fight alongside Bzzaps! and Ruff Puffs. A rare sub-species known as Amazy Dayzee appears in the game as well, they have an incredibly high attack stat but will often flee the fight if Mario does not put them to sleep, if Mario defeats it he will earn a high number of star points.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Crazee Dayzees along with Amazee Dayzees make a return appearance in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In the game they can be found along the Twilight Trail near Twilight Town, and later on Amazee Dayzees appear in the lower levels of the Pit of 100 Trials in Rogueport.

In the game a green petaled Crazee Dayzee known as Hayzee appears as an ally of Luigi who joined him on his journey to assemble the Marvelous Compass. Hayzee is also from a town of Crazee Dayzees known as Jazzafrazz Town, because of this the game marks the first time that a Crazee Dayzee is given a personality and acts as an ally, and that a community of Crayzee Dayzees is mentioned.

Super Paper Mario

Crazee Dayzees and Amazee Dayzees return in the third installment of the Paper Mario series Super Paper Mario. This time around they can be found in some of the many Dimensions that Mario visits throughout his journey, such as: The Dotwood Tree in the Bitlands, the Land of the Cragnons, and an Amazee Dayzee can be fought in Castle Bleck.

Characteristics

Traits and Abilities

All Crazee Dayzees and their sub-species are a flower-based species with a child-like appearance. They have petals surrounding their face, stubby leaf-like arms, pink or yellow faces with black eyes, a cutesy smile and pink cheeks, and their bodies resemble a small green skirt/robe, their feet are also visible beneath the skirt/robe and resemble blue (or sometimes purple) shoes.

They don't seem to be very good at fighting physically, so they primarily rely on their mystical singing abilities which can put their enemies to sleep or somehow cause them severe damage, however when faced by a strong foe they prefer to run away then needlessly risk their lives unlike other enemies in the Mario series.

Leadership and Allegiance

Crazee Dayzees do not appear to have any type of established leadership, but they were members of the Koopa Troop during Mario's infancy and served under the then current leader of the Koopa Troop, Kamek. They were mainly stationed on Yoshi's Island. In later years Crazee Dayzees appeared to have been used less by the Koopa Troop in favor of the more well known enemies that appear today. However, after a long absence they appeared again in Paper Mario, inhabiting the land of Flower Fields where they would attack Mario alongside either Ruff Puffs or other enemies; since these creatures were members of the Koopa Troop it could be possible that Crazee Dayzees were welcomed back into the troop's main ranks and were serving Huff N. Puff, the then current Koopa Troop boss of Flower Fields. In later games they appeared mostly in forest-like areas and they did not seem to be affiliated with anyone at the time, implying that as of current they are not allied with any powerful figures or groups. It could be possible that most Crazee Dayzees follow under whatever leadership the Dayzee town of Jazzafrazz has, similar to the Bob-ombs of Fahr Outpost.

Culture

Despite their cute and innocent appearance, Dayzees are known to attack without warning even when the Koopa Troop doesn't seem involved, whether this is because they are driven by instinct or for personal reasons is never fully explained. Though most Dayzees appear to be simplistic enemies that only exist to attack the player, it has been shown that they can indeed communicate normally and they even have their own established settlement known as Jazzafrazz Town, where it is implied that their culture revolves around their love of singing and music, and each year they host the Jazzafrazz Town Drama Slam, where numerous contestants try to write the best musical in order to win the Dramalama Plaque which will act as a clear sign of the writer's great skill, Hayzee was the winner of the last Drama Slam thanks to some help from Luigi and both their writing and acting talents were well recognized and adored by the town.
