Boss Wiggler is a giant Wiggler who first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine as the boss of Gelato Beach. He was the cause of the Sand Bird's delayed hatching.

History

Super Mario Sunshine

Boss Wiggler asleep, on top of the Sand Bird's tower

In Super Mario Sunshine, Boss Wiggler was one of the many monsters that Bowser Jr. used to frame Mario. He and a group of Plungelos were placed in charge of Gelato Beach where they were to impede the hatching of the Sand Bird by covering the solar reflectors and the solar heating device that fed warmth to its egg. Luckily Mario arrived and defeated the Plungelos and knocked the sleeping Boss Wiggler off the device thus restoring the sun's warmth to the egg, however after Boss Wiggler was knocked off the device he awoke with a nasty temper and went on a rampage across the beach. When Mario returns to the beach he finds the area and its residents in disarray because of Boss Wiggler's rampage so he decides to defeat him and end his destruction. Boss Wiggler seemed almost unstoppable while in motion, but luckily Mario was able to use the sand dune creating abilities of the beach's Dune Buds in order to form obstacles for Boss Wiggler to trip over and fall onto his back which left the weak spots on his belly exposed, once Mario defeated him he dissolves into sand and was never seen again.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Boss Wiggler did not make a physical appearance, but numerous Wiggler Buses that appeared in the game bared a similar appearance to him (such as his red nose, green skin, orange and yellow spots and the flower on his head). The Wiggler Buses would act as obstacles in Mushroom City and Mushroom Bridge.

Character Description

Physical Appearance

Unlike most Wigglers, Boss Wiggler has a completely different color scheme, having yellow eyes instead of black, green skin instead of yellow, a red nose instead of a brown one, and he wears blue shoes instead of violet ones. He is also very large, possessing over seven body segments, making him even larger than a Mega Wiggler, this makes him the second largest Wiggler in the games, having been beaten by the massive Wiggler who appeared in World 7-3 of New Super Mario Bros.. Boss Wiggler also has the distinction of being the only Wiggler who does not change color when enraged.

Personality

Boss Wiggler, like most Wigglers has a very short temper and will thrash about when enraged. He also seems to be a bit lazy, as he fell asleep while guarding the Sand Bird instead of keeping an eye out for Mario for when he came to defeat his Plungelos.

Abilities

Like all Wigglers, Boss Wiggler can become invincible when enraged and will charge wildly at his opponent. He is also very fast, capable of running up hills and in water with no change in his velocity. These abilities are further enhanced by his immense size. He can also release steam from his nose when enraged, and being sprayed with water also causes him to release steam.

Trivia

  • In the American version of Super Mario Sunshine he is merely referred to as Wiggler, while in Japan he is actually named Boss Hana-chan (or Boss Wiggler), because of this he was not recognized as an individual in the english version of the game.
  • Boss Wiggler has not made a physical appearance since Super Mario Sunshine, and later games that have had a Wiggler for a boss posses no unique characteristics or resemblance to Boss Wiggler, only resembling regular Wigglers that are a bit large in size or not that large at all.
