Brooklyn is a city located in the real world and New York.
It is also where Mario and Luigi were thought to live before Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island in which they were revealed to have been born in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Sometime after being born in the Mushroom Kingdom they where sent to Brooklyn. Probably at a very young age (even thought Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are seen in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time as 3 year olds, they probably were sent at the age of 5).
It also appears in the Mario Movie. In the Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Brooklyn appears in some episodes-in one episode King Koopa tries to take over Brooklyn.
