Lumpy (alternatively Lump, formerly Prince Froggy[1]) is a large frog creature that appears in Wario Land 3. Lumpy's original English name is shared with the boss from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It is unclear if it has a connection to the Prince Frog's Glove found in Out of the Woods' Green Chest.

History

Wario Land 3

In Wario Land 3, Prince Froggy is immovable and inert, where it mainly blocks paths. While they cannot be defeated by Wario's normal attacks, inducing earthquakes from a powered-up Smash Attack causes them to recoil, where they will move up thin platforms if there are any. Of Wario's reactions, Hot Wario (if Wario is completely under fire), Vampire Wario, Ice Skatin' Wario, and Zombie Wario can eliminate them. Prince Froggy is usually gray, but a red one exists in The Peaceful Village which, unlike the immobile gray ones, is struggling to move upwards from a hole. It is similar to a Futamogu, but unlike Futamogu, which is ordinarily happy when left alone and angry when stepped upon, the red frog alternates between struggling and appearing teary-eyed, though it will stop struggling if stood on.

Prince Froggy are found in the following levels, in the following quantities:

In Dr. Mario 64, they reappear, where they are called Lump. In Story mode, Lump is sleeping peacefully in the mountains but is disturbed by Mad Scienstein, who rolls it down the mountain. While Dr. Mario dodges Lumpy, Wario is hit by it and is forced to engage it in battle. While still characterized as lazy and struggling to stay awake in its animations, Lumpy is more active here by comparison such as aggressively whipping out its long tongue when performing well. Lump is also playable in the game's Vs. modes, where its AI difficulty is in the middle, alongside Helio and Hammer-bot; this is the only game where Lump is playable, excluding the port in Nintendo Puzzle Collection.
