Collectible Treasure Descriptions

I think it's better if we also include the number. As in: Collectible Treasure #46.--Part 1 of my sigPart 2 of my sig 11:32, August 21, 2020 (EDT)

I must admit that it's something that didn't cross my mind back when I put these descriptions in for everything, and that I changed it for the Canned-food part-tay trio to be consistent with the rest, but now that you mention it I guess we could do so. I just don't remember if the numbers are also shown when viewing the collectible treasures in the museum (I copied them straight from my copy of the game). Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8
In the article, it has the collectibles in numerical order. I'll start doing it now. --Part 1 of my sigPart 2 of my sig 12:00, August 21, 2020 (EDT)

RE: Forum talk

Basically any comment that can be interpreted as intent to improve the article/wiki should be assumed as such and shouldn't be outright removed. And looking at the user's past talk posts, that was very likely their intent. Comments like "What's your favourite character" clearly don't have this intent, so they should be removed. K.K. Paper Mario: Color Splash "Card description"

I don't need to discuss them, without wanting to violate the rules, the descriptions which are noted on the museums, they note them on the characters and enemies concerned, as we have always done. And the description of the cards of Paper Mario: Color Splash are not listed on their profiles. So, however, there is no harm. User:TheRaoul1992/sig

RE: RE: Need help with anything?

Well, if I get the TOK, I can certainly make that happen, also should the page for collectable tresures be also made, even though Musée Champignon has 3/4 of information? I mean the page would be THE exact location and image, like other collectible pages. Because other than the stuff you mentioned, I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what to help with. Mid188 (talk) 14:02, February 27, 2021 (EST)

I mean when you think about it, Musée Champignon has only the region of where the treasure is (Whispering Woods for example) but not the exact locations (for example, Whispering Woods: In the area with the revitalizing spring, Mushroom treasure is found at the end of the area, in the corner.). And if you need to do something specific to reach the treasure, this page would have it covered. That's why I think it would be preferable to create the page, mainly for take sake of consistency, since Hidden Toads, Not-Bottomless Holes and Hidden Blocks all have/will have their own pages and it doesn't feel right to leave out the Collectible Treasures. Re: Basin in Paper Jam

It's at the very start of the game. If Luigi tries to go through the door in the attic without investigating for the Scaredy Rat, Toad tells him not to leave yet. Eventually, Luigi gets either a heavy object (I think either a basin or a weight) dropped on him, making him dizzy. It's played comedically and in a similar fashion to the PM games. RE: DK Country animal friend page moves

The page can't move to a redirect's name if the redirect has been edited, so you'd need to mark it for deletion. You can do that now or let me know when you're ready to move and I'll delete it then. K.K. Slider costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 22:06, April 14, 2021 (EDT)

Parry would be "Parry (character)" per MarioWiki:Naming. Basically mirror how they were prioritised before. Since "Ellie" already redirected to the elephant before this (due to it being more popular), it can just take the "Ellie" name. Since "Parry" is already a disambiguation (since both are about equally likely searched), the bird uses an identifier like Parry (move). K.K. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:18, May 29, 2021 (EDT)

This.

This. I think every person who edits/edited on this wikipedia should get a warning before a temporary or permanent block. That is what I think. That should happen. Regardless of what the person did. 107.146.244.150 17:28, June 7, 2021 (EDT)

That is how it works most of the time for registered users. As explained here, anonymous users are not given warnings, and simply get a talk page message or two if they are not following rules, then get blocked if they continue to do so. However, if a user is blatantly vandalising, anonymous or registered, there is no point trying to tell them to stop and we go straight to blocking. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 17:35, June 7, 2021 (EDT)

I also think that users who vandalizing/vandalizing should and need to get warnings before they are blocked. Users could have gotten warning before they were blocked like the user who said "I LOVE DAISY!" in Alex95's chat loads of times, I looked at a revise history of it. Luke is the best 66, NASACRfan0548, and more. I also respect your opinion. When or if I become a user on this wiki, I won't block anyone even regardless of what they are doing. 107.146.244.150 17:44, June 7, 2021 (EDT)

Blocking is something only staff members can do, and the reason I blocked Luke is the best 66 is because it was a sockpuppet account; basically someone trying to evade a block by creating another account, and staff members can check IP addresses to make sure of that. I believe NASCARfan0548 is also a vandal who has created multiple accounts which were all blocked. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 17:55, June 7, 2021 (EDT)
People who vandalize the wiki are not going to be contributors. There has never been a case where an IP who has vandalized the site reformed to be a contributive user. There is no point in giving clear vandals warnings. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 17:56, June 7, 2021 (EDT)

Re:Cursa article

I've added the sources. Sorry for not copying it over but all the info on Cursa is sourced on the same link on the game page, and it's all the available info on the character now so it's not like the article is missing info. I'm not sure why the first instinct is to tag it for deletion instead of taking the two seconds to find the source in the game article and add it. Cursa was a glaring red link in the article so putting the known info, little as it may be, to start it off seems appropriate. --Fawfulthegreat64Logo.png 19:45, June 21, 2021 (EDT)

Regarding the inappropriate edit from the anon

In regards to the edit which I flagged as potentially offensive, to be honest, at first I was also unaware that this was inappropriate, but due to a lack of knowledge on Splatoon, I thought that I'd better check that the wrong-sounding name was truely illegitimate and found that it was a derogatory term, albeit in Dutch. Hello Have you ever heard of a child that has the best grammar ever? No? That is why Koopa Kid has bad grammar, because he is a child. So it is not speculation, it is a fact that he is a child (hence the kid part of his name), and children almost always have poor grammar. 199.101.61.254 09:59, August 14, 2021 (EDT)

Pizza Tower 2: Multiverse Craziness
Story

After the events of Pizza Tower, Peppino Spaghetti was still trying to get out of debt. A year had passed, and Peppino had gotten out of debt, and was actually making profit. However, Pizzaface and Pizzahead had returned. They had invented a multiversal travel machine, which they were going to use to destroy Peppino's Pizza. Peppino decided that he needed to stop them. He saw the tower had been rebuilt, so he went there. Gustavo, Brick, & Mr. Stick followed Peppino. Things were different this time. Sand was suddenly appearing, and the tower seemingly morphed into various other towers, spires, etc. This would be the final time Peppino's Pizza would be threatened.

Regarding what Blinker was adding, Sworm's JP name is actually a pun on Monty's. Granted, the same can be said for Huckit Crab and Goomba. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:00, September 20, 2021 (EDT)

It's not just the Japanese name. The Spanish and Italian names also seem to be based on Monty's. As for looking nothing alike... that's fair. I could compare the Sworm's little hairs and big smile to the Presenter's, but that's probably a stretch. Maybe they could just be listed as comparable. Re: 100 Coin Missions in Mario Sunshine

Continuing this discussion on your profile as this goes beyond the Sunshine missions article

"We don't allow strategy writing like this as the best episodes/areas to get 100 coins can be subjective, and creating articles for these would be going a bit far."

What about for players that may be struggling to find 100 coins? We should have some kind of content to help them find it so users don't need to keep asking for help on "How do I get 100 coins in X level?". Would it be more appropriate to add such info in the layouts for specific levels/episodes? And I mean things such as "there are coins in X section/object" or "the 100 Coin Shine Sprite can be found in X location", more objective info like that. Bolt Strike

I think that would be appropriate enough, as long as we don't outright say "this is the best episode for the 100 coin shine. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 16:39, June 10, 2022 (EDT)

Yoshi Koopa

25th anniversary book, translated from Tezuka (ie his creator): "Yoshi was originally meant to be a type of Koopa." I believe that speaks for itself (and it's sourced), especially since this book suddenly kickstarted him being considered primarily a "turtle" again. Also, note the Japanese word for the Koopas is just "kame-zoku" (turtle tribe), so calling him a turtle means basically the same thing (like with early Rocky Wrench sources), so that's just an inconsistent translation issue. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:22, October 17, 2022 (EDT)

I didn't really take the former part into consideration as "originally" isn't really relevant if it's not implemented into the final product in any way. I know I may be asking for a bit much here, since I didn't see it when I looked at the sources and I can't read Japanese, but is it possible the term "kame-zoku" was even used alongside "turtle"? If so, then maybe we could still note it on the Yoshi and Koopa Troop pages but I'd still take it slow about outright calling Yoshis "Koopas" (I kind of feel the same way about Rocky Wrench as well, since they're definitely not turtles anymore). Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 12:44, October 17, 2022 (EDT)
I can add that, in addition to more recent sources specifying the saddle as a type of (turtle) shell, this panel definitely states along of the lines of it being the same family of turtles as Bowser (ie. Koopas): (Incidentally, the origin of Yoshi's name was “taken from the nickname of a woman in the company called Yoshimura-san and from Nessie, a dinosaur said to be in Loch Ness.” (his story) “Therefore, at first I kept drawing him thinking he was a dinosaur, but I was later told that he was actually a character from the same Turtle Tribe as Koopa and others. So over time, Yoshi's design slowly became more and more turtle-like. Has everyone noticed?” (him) These comments from Kotabe-san himself and others are quite playful, amusingly enough.) LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:31, October 17, 2022 (EDT)
I think that basically settles it. If there are no other complaints, I'm putting it back. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:58, October 21, 2022 (EDT)
I'd still rather get a community consensus, but for now my vote would probably be listing it as "relatives" and vice versa. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 06:37, October 22, 2022 (EDT)

Japanese quotes

Heya, so I'm not sure if you saw me respond to what you said, but as you said "We normally only note localization inconsistancies if they are dead serious such as with a lot of things from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it's not really necessary for minor dialogue differences." however, the Larry dialogue differences I've brought up are PRETTY big dialogue differences, as well as more dialogue differences I still haven't brought up that are pretty big. --GoldyFish110 (talk) 14:01, October 21, 2022 (EDT)

What you brought up still seems trivial to me, compared to Sky Blue Spiny "pipes" and Chestnut/Goomba King. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 14:03, October 21, 2022 (EDT)
Really? Can you show me those examples you're comparing to the Larry quotes? Even if you think of them as trivial, I think the Larry quotes are just as worth documenting as documenting the Japanese and English versions of the Super Mario Bros 3 Instruction Booklet quote was (well, the Mario wiki might have the Japanese version mistranslated since Japanese speakers on r/translator brought up a slightly different translation of the SMB3 Instruction Booklet quote) --GoldyFish110 (talk) 15:34, October 21, 2022 (EDT)
Goomboss#Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Dark Lakitu#Trivia/Sky-Blue Spiny#Trivia. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 16:10, October 21, 2022 (EDT)
Honestly, those seem more trivial, more minor and less of drastic changes than the stuff I talked about with Larry's quotes. I don't know how the Larry quotes "seem trivial" and these don't, like, the Chestnut King is just a different name from what was originally used (slight disrespect to the source material at it's worst, maybe mistranslate at it's best) and the other is a silly mistranslated tattle. Larry's quotes had completely different meaning for the sake of fitting a different narrative by making him look "evil" when he's not. I mean, we're comparing those (I'd argue incredibly minor differences) to the differences between "Took you long enough, pal... I’m almost done digesting that giant steak I ate." and "Ah, Mario. You caught up with me? Not bad. I ate a lot at the restaurant so I wanted to rest a little more, but since you’ve caught up with me, I guess there’s no helping it." as well as the differences between "You grill a mean steak, Mario. You should have been a chef! At least that way, you would’ve had a nice long culinary existence. But instead, I’m gonna cook you up a tuna-fist sandwich before we get to Starlight Cape! Lord Bowser is expecting the Big Paint Star, and I have no intention of disappointing him. Have you even seen his disappointed face? It’s heartbreaking! Enough small talk. Let’s get this over with." and "Ahaha! It was really, really good! Why don't you become a chef? Uh, I don't have time to talk here. I have to defeat you before the train arrives at starlight cape, if I don't bring back the Big Paint Star, scary Lord Bowser is going to scold me! Well then, let's have a showdown here!" as well as the huge difference that is between "Ahaaaaaaaaa! I love the smell of impending doom!" and "Ahaha! Just as I plotted, you jumped right into the game!" like, these quotes are completely different, I don't understand how Chestnut King and "Spinies hatch from pipes" is more "serious" and less "minor" than these. I mean that in no disrespectful way, so please don't get the wrong idea. I just... really think the Larry quotes are more drastic and serious changes than those are. --GoldyFish110 (talk) 18:35, October 21, 2022 (EDT)

Re:Spike Ball (+ Super Mario Bros. 2)

I may need a bit more context for how the in-game guide is formatted, but regardless of that, here's the scene where it's obtained in the original and the remake - the text could have easily been updated, but it wasn't. It follows the wiki's "most commonly used" rule and it appears to be inapplicable to the original going by previous edit summaries. Additionally, capitalized "Spike Ball" is already taken in this game by a completely unrelated subject according to Spike's profile here, and I think keeping both as-is would be a source of confusion. By the way, I didn't see Wart earlier - I kind of like the way it was arranged before since it's closer to how other non-Mario-originating subjects are organized in their own infoboxes, plus I feel the current presentation gives the impression that Doki Doki Panic released the same year as Super Mario Bros. 2. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:03, October 24, 2022 (EDT)

I guess it couldn't hurt to include Doki Doki Panic's release date year in the infobox as well, but as long as both games are still included. As for Spike Ball, the subjects are kept far away from each other to be confused (they're not even in the same mode), the context of the sentence should also make it clear which subject is being referred to. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 16:27, October 24, 2022 (EDT)
I checked the remake to make sure the edits were correct. Here's what it says under Guide/Field Actions/Spike Ball:

An action performed by Bowser.
Set the Action Icon to Spike Ball and press to begin.
During this move, Bowser will curl into a spike ball. You can move him around with Circle Pad.
In this form, you can walk through thorny terrain and use the spikes to climb up certain walls.
You can also break blocks and statues if you roll through them.

So the new text actually uses both capitalization and lowercase. I think the lowercase is more technically correct in context because that seems to be how the Guide formats Action Icon labels compared to their moves. For example: "Set the Action Icon to Jump and press to make Mario jump and to make Luigi jump." The action is lowercase jump, and we don't change it to capitalized Jump due to the icon label. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:48, November 30, 2022 (EST)
It looks to me like the lowercase is being used to literally describe Bowser being in a spike ball, and capitalised is used to name the move, and it even looks like the same deal for jumping. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 14:32, November 30, 2022 (EST)
