A Noko Bombette.

A Noko Bombette is a turtle with a bomb for a shell found in Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Mario must try to avoid them, even though they mostly appear in tight corridors. It is one of the few enemies that cannot be defeated by a Superball. A jump is the only way to defeat it, though it will explode a few seconds after the jump. If Mario is caught in the blast, he will take damage.

Trivia

  • It's possible they're related to Koopas, Buzzy Beetles, or not even living at all. They also seem to be related to the more turtle-like but similarly named Nokobons of their only appearance's prequel, who share an attack pattern with them; as a matter of fact, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins even repeats Super Mario Land's "a turtle with a bomb on its back" description for Nokobon in its manual's Noko Bombette description, likely as a reference.
  • A Bob-omb character named Bombette is a partner of Mario in Paper Mario. This is possibly a reference to Noko Bombettes, as they both can explode.
  • The Noko Bombette name is an pun on Nokonoko, the Japanese word for Koopa Troopa, and Bomb.
