Fruit
Fruit are the favorite food of the Yoshis. Many fruit grow wildly on Mushroom World that depend on cultivated land in the real world. Fruit made their first appearance in Super Mario World, in the form of large Berries growing on bushes. Green Berries also appeared.
Fruit also appear in Yoshi's Story, where if you eat enough fruit you would advance to the next level. In Super Mario Sunshine, Yoshis need a lot of fruit. When riding a Yoshi, you had to give it a lot of fruit or it would go back to its egg. The watermelons in the game are massive, yet very fragile. They're almost exactly like water ballons.
Another kind of fruit appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, named Bean Fruit.
Fruit is also used in Donkey Kong Jr., where it is used as a weapon. This fruit plummets downward upon impact with Donkey Kong Junior, and defeats any enemies it lands on. This fruit also appeared in Donkey Kong '94 and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, as well as a few rare appearances in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis.
