Template:Infobox Super Mario Maker 2 is an upcoming 2D platforming and level-editing game for the Nintendo Switch and the sequel to the 2015 Wii U title Super Mario Maker. The game expands on its predecessor with new features such as a level style based on Super Mario 3D World, a 3D game; new level themes, such as desert, snow and nighttime; and slopes. Super Mario Maker 2 will be released in June 2019.[1]

Course elements

Instead of displaying every element on a single screen as in Super Mario Maker, at the top-right corner of the screen in editing mode, there is a magnifying glass which, when selected, allows the player to search for course elements by category. Each category's elements are organized into one or more wheels, with the elements as the sectors.

Elements formatted in bold are new to Super Mario Maker 2.

Styles

Themes

  • Ground – In the Super Mario 3D World style, the theme is based on Super Bell Hill.[1]
  • Underground – In the Super Mario 3D World style, the theme is based on Koopa Troopa Cave.[1]
  • Underwater – In the Super Mario 3D World style, the theme is based on Pipeline Lagoon, with the shipwreck being visible in the background.[1]
  • Ghost House[1]
  • Airship[1]
  • Desert – In the Super Mario 3D World style, the theme is based on Conkdor Canyon.[1]
  • Snow[1]
  • Forest (with water) – In the Super Mario 3D World style, the theme is based on Gargantuan Grotto.[1]
  • Night (with poison)[1]
  • A "circus" theme from Super Mario 3D World. Currently, its unknown whether its a separate theme or a representative for another theme.

Terrain

The terrain category is represented by a Brick Block icon and colored blue.

Items

The item category is represented by a coin icon and colored pink.

Enemies

The enemy category is represented by a Goomba icon and colored green.

Objects

An unnamed, fourth category containing objects is represented by a key and colored yellow.
