Ok? It was perfect you did that BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 21:30, 25 April 2013 (EDT)

I don't think I'm able to do that (I lack the proper tools) but what I do instead is take screenshots directly from an emulator playing games. The problem is the ridiculously slow speed the emulation runs at, which means I can't be bothered to play too much. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C)

Heads-up

You might want to consider uploading images, and then putting them to an article. --- ThePremiumYoshi 11:54, 26 April 2013 (EDT)

Image size vs. quality

Hello, I've noticed that you have been uploading many images which were captured from, as you stated, from YouTube via VideoLAN. The apparent benefit of this is the size, which in most cases is more desirable. However, size cannot match up to quality. Lately, you have been capturing 1000 x 1000px + png images which are of blurry quality, and tagging the good quality jpgs for deletion. Many of the older files are already of very decent quality, and replacing them for huge, but poor quality versions isn't what we encourage here. Additionally, some of your screenshots appeared stretched/squished up from the originals, which may be the nature of the YouTube video which it was captured from. We appreciate your good faith, but it was best to let you know about this. Thanks for your understanding

Do you have any press material files/discs/kits?

JPEG to PNG Policy

Keep in mind that a proposal passed a while ago prohibiting direct conversion of a JPEG to PNG, and policy was changed to reflect it. Replacing is different if you are getting the file from a BMP or other source (some imaging programs convert behind-the-scenes). Emulators generate BMPs when they render a scene, which is often saved as a PNG when the screenshot code is triggered. If your Super Mario Sunshine image reuploads are JPEGs directly converted to PNG, please revert your changes. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 21:54, 22 June 2017 (EDT)

I promise that these are BMP-converted images. The HD Guy (talk) 22:25, 22 June 2017 (EDT)
Alright then. It annoys me when people think that PNG means higher quality. Not necessarily. PNG means that all RGB pixel data is preserved, hence why it is referred to as a lossless format. JPEG purposely loses pixel data depending on quality settings, hence why it is referred to as a lossy format. Here's a video that I think other people should see: [1] --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:00, 23 June 2017 (EDT)

Any Images Referenced by The Shroom

If any images are being used by The 'Shroom, remove the game category and tag the image with {{shroom-image}} instead of {{delete}}. Talk to Tucayo and he will delete exact or near exact copies of images and change the appropriate editorials. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:22, 23 June 2017 (EDT)

Okay, please remind me if I forget. I should hopefully remember. The HD Guy (talk) 21:04, 23 June 2017 (EDT)

Mario No1

Hi there. A recently created account named Mario No1 (talk) shares your IP address. Do you know who this is? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:10, 10 September 2017 (EDT)

Someone registered that in my area but ended up never using the account. The HD Guy (talk) 14:16, 21 July 2018 (EDT)

Haha thank you! :D Right place, right time for me I suppose. While I'm at it, thanks for tagging that stuff. I've been looking for more maintenance work to do lol. --KPH2293 09:08, 29 July 2018 (EDT)

Not as familiar with Conker, but I'll certainly keep it in mind. What kind of maintenance work do you need assistance with? --KPH2293 18:36, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
Ah, OK. Grammar is definitely something I could help with. I'll set up an account and take a look. --KPH2293 18:42, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
You're welcome! :) And yeah, totally. I'm on a few other wikis, but this is by far the one I've done the most with. --KPH2293 18:49, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
Looks good, looks a lot like one you would expect here. --KPH2293 14:14, 5 August 2018 (EDT)
I thought so lol, it's no problem at all. I do stuff like that too; take something that already exists and put my own spin on it. --KPH2293 14:24, 5 August 2018 (EDT)

.png

If you have a .png version of an image you have acquired somewhere, and the version being replaced is a .jpg, you'll need to upload it as a whole new file. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:44, 29 July 2018 (EDT)

Well i'm converting psd's from this MKDD press kit from assemblergames to png. not jpg->png. The HD Guy (talk) 12:50, 29 July 2018 (EDT)
That's what I hoped you were doing. I was responding to your comment on the group art. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:51, 29 July 2018 (EDT)
doesn't feel right to revert from png to jpg though. But anyway, the large MKDD group art -- that was psd -> jpg The HD Guy (talk) 12:52, 29 July 2018 (EDT)
Could you not have gone .psd->.png? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:54, 29 July 2018 (EDT)
No because the output was 25MB. The HD Guy (talk) 12:56, 29 July 2018 (EDT)
Ahhhh.....also, please remember to not use the word "beta" unless it is specifically confirmed to come from a beta build, as that's a specific time in development, not all of development. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:59, 29 July 2018 (EDT)
Ok, and yeah i like the term "pre-release" or "early" more as well. The HD Guy (talk) 14:13, 29 July 2018 (EDT)

Hey

Just wanted to let you know I found this message you wrote to Doc to be slightly condescending. I understand the frustration that comes from having edits reversed, but still, you might want to take it down one notch. rollerC (talk) 16:25, 2 August 2018 (EDT)

That's why i'm trying to prevent drama. I just don't like when people act like admins when they really are not. The HD Guy (talk) 16:28, 2 August 2018 (EDT)
Yeeeeeah, about that, on here, the powers granted to admins basically amount to being able to block people and delete stuff. Anyways, aboutfile descriptions are intended to be concise, and don't need to be in full grammatical sentences, as those can end up a little obfuscative. Anyways, if you're going to refer to someone's "behavior towards other users," don't do it as rudely as possible. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:32, 2 August 2018 (EDT)
Doc was trying to help make the description clearer, alongside tagging it with the right template. There was no need to say something like that, but do be careful that an edit war doesn't happen. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:35, 2 August 2018 (EDT)
(Admins can also edit guideline pages, forgot that.) Anyways, Alex reverted the description back to mine, but then was edited back to basically what it was originally before any of this by a conflagrative infant friend of mine. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk)
Was that last bit really necessary? rollerC (talk) 16:43, 2 August 2018 (EDT)

PNG Optimization

I see you are using pngout. Remember RAP's page PNG Monster? I edited the source code of the program and came up with PNG Monstrous. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:41, 2 August 2018 (EDT)

Oh haha, i thought PNG Monstrous was just a nickname for PNG Monster. Thank you for showing this to me. The HD Guy (talk) 20:43, 2 August 2018 (EDT)

The File:SMBSS title card.png appears to be different from the original image. The "tm" is in a different spot. What version of the show are you watching? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:28, 3 August 2018 (EDT)

The SMBSS dvd boxset. The HD Guy (talk) 16:29, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
Well, in any case, we can probably keep both images and mark what's different. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 16:30, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
Sure. That sounds like a good idea. The HD Guy (talk) 16:31, 3 August 2018 (EDT)

Image Uploads

Over the course of my editing, I have been an avid pusher of having images meet certain standards. When I first started that page, I was hoping to get it to be a policy or help page. Now, the project is dormant with progress, but I still reference it from time to time for users that upload screenshots that could be done better. If my comments seem to suggest to delete your uploads, as you thought on Alex95 (talk)'s talk page, it's more of a concern that uploads meet certain quality minimums instead of playing it fast and loose, which I have seen with much older uploads with my casual browsing. Pre-release and unused content is trickier to judge compared to full releases. Generally, I don't touch any of it for any reason. There have been some cases where I uploaded better than what we had, like File:Mpaint.jpg or E3 2007 images in List of Super Mario Galaxy pre-release and unused content. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:42, 3 August 2018 (EDT)

Okay, well i could tell you're an avid pusher. In fact, have you seen my edits? I'm quite avid at it as well--i dug through like every press kit yesterday and this morning to upload the remaining of what you have not from the press kits. idk i just misrepresented your statement. i thought you implied you'd want that one deleted. and i agree with how it's harder to tell with pre-release, especially because press kits have convertible images to PNG format. Really, in short, thanks for being into high-res images. The HD Guy (talk) 23:53, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
I have seen people upload images larger than a console can produce. This is common with 3D games because we can upscale in emulation without causing pixilation (textures on 3D surfaces get blurry and fuzzy though). N64 game screenshot uploads have this issue with Super Mario Wiki editors in general because 640x480 is the default resolution on certain emulators by default and those editors believe this is what the N64 truly does. I found out this is mostly wrong, because a plug-in by angrylion is known to produce near-pixel-accurate screenshots. My guide has details about what happens with each plug-in. Rarely do games produce 640x480, well, it's more 640x474 for whatever reason. 320x240 is what the N64 can produce, and that is wrong again because 320x237 is what angrylion does in those instances. Not sure why 3/6 pixels are being omitted. Some games can change resolution dynamically too, so it's never one resolution constantly during play! Examples:
GameCube and Wii are a different story. I have noticed some games don't utilize the full 640x480 resolution, like Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. List here. Forcing 640x480 on such games yields slight blur. I used to do super upscaled uploads reaching beyond 720p (1600x900 at most), but I don't do that anymore because I found a minimalistic alternative which has the right balance between big enough, least blur/pixilation, and minimum impact on storage requirements.
What I am trying to say is, I won't do high resolution with those games. I will do minimum. That may mean putting some N64 uploads at 320x237 or GameCube/Wii games at around 640x480. No higher. Widescreen is a challenge though because it is faked. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 13:21, 5 August 2018 (EDT)
I see, i'll keep that in mind for next time The HD Guy (talk) 13:50, 5 August 2018 (EDT)
