  • Toadsworth (pictured) was originally intended to appear in Mario Party 8; he has two unused voice clips in the game's files.
  • In the Japanese version of the microgame Big Bang in WarioWare: Touched!, a series of mountains and a bonfire in the shape of the character 大 (large, great) can be seen in the background. This is a reference to the festival Gozan no Okuribi of Kyoto. In localizations, the background is just black.
  • Wing Mario gets referenced in Rayman Legends for the Wii U. While Rayman is wearing the Mario costume, wings appear from his hat when he glides.
