Dashing is a move in the Mario series, which allows a character to run much faster then normal. In the NES games, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Toad could dash by holding the button B. This will make the character run faster than usual, causing them to complete a level very quickly. While dashing, a character can run over small pits. Dashing reappeared in Super Mario 64 DS, with the same function. In New Super Mario Bros., its sequel and Super Mario 3D Land, if Mario or Luigi dashed and jumped quickly after, they could jump higher and farther than normal.
