Regarding the sentence "Additionally, what appears to be an early iteration of this character is simply referred to as カメック (Kamek) in concept art for the original game." Is that talking about the concept art that shows it alongside Shaman and Shy Guy? Isn't that probably just a generic Magikoopa? I mean, generic as in a generic enemy, not as in Kamek. It is: in Japan, Magikoopas are all Kamek, and very rarely if ever is the "character" one distinguished in any way - hence why he pretty much never appears alongside different blue ones.
