Super Mario RPG 2 was the original name for Paper Mario. It had to be changed when Square and Nintendo, the co-developers of Super Mario RPG, split. Because Super Mario RPG was owned by both companies, it was not legal for Nintendo to release a direct sequel without Square's consent. So, changing some aspects of the game, most notably the name, Nintendo released Paper Mario.Also It was originally planned for the Nintendo 64DD but that version got canncelled due to copyright issues and the failure of the 64DD.
