Cat Shines are the main collectible appearing in the Bowser's Fury mode of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. They boast a shiny, crimson appearance, shaped like a cat's head, complete with golden facial features, whiskers, and ear canals; surrounding this is a series of golden triangles of varying widths, loosely resembling the outer edges of a Shine Sprite. Cat Shines are often accompanied by a vibrant glow that makes them easy to spot.

One hundred Cat Shines are scattered all throughout Lake Lapcat, with sixty being found on its main islands, five on Lucky Isle after the main story is completed, and the remaining thirty-five on the lake itself. Each of the lake's main islands have five Cat Shines; three of these are obtained via unique challenges (though some challenges are reused between islands), one is obtained by collecting the five Cat Shine Shards on the island, and one is located behind a set of Fury Blocks that can only be destroyed by Fury Bowser's fire beam attack.

When the first Cat Shine of an island is collected, that island's lighthouse activates and clears any black goo that may be concealing the nearby area; if Fury Bowser is active when this happens, then he takes a small amount of damage and becomes inactive. The other Cat Shines on the island cause the island's lighthouse to shine when they are collected, which causes Fury Bowser to again take a small amount of damage and become inactive if it occurs while he is active. However, defeating Fury Bowser solely by collecting Cat Shines is impossible, since the damage done by lighthouses can never bring his health below one. The animation that Mario performs when collecting the Cat Shines resembles the one performed upon collecting a non-story-related Power Moon in Super Mario Odyssey. If Mario collects a Cat Shine as Small Mario, then he turns into Super Mario. Cat Shines that Mario has already collected are transparent and do not light up lighthouses nor have a special animation when collected, instead granting Mario coins. Once all five Cat Shines on an island are collected, a Cat Flinger resembling a Goal Pole appears on that island's lighthouse. Notably, Fur Step Island initially only has one Cat Shine available, that being its first (which is the first collected in the game), and its other four cannot be obtained until after completing the main story, whereas the rest of the major islands have all five of their Cat Shines available prior to completion of the story.

Mario and Bowser Jr. must collect a certain number of Cat Shines in order to awaken the Giga Bells, with the number increasing as the player progresses through the game[1]; it is initially five before increasing to fifteen, then to twenty, then to forty, and finally to fifty. As such, at least fifty Cat Shines must be collected in order to complete the story, though it is not possible to collect all one hundred prior to completing the story due to Fur Step Island's additional four Cat Shines, the five on Lucky Isle, and the four for finding the members of the Toad Brigade only being available after doing so. 100% completion is achieved by collecting all one hundred Cat Shines and then beating the final boss again.
