This is a list of beta elements for the game Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.
Early builds
According to Masahiro Sakurai on Famitsu, he was planning on adding the Ice Climbers for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, but the team had trouble getting the Ice Climbers working in the Nintendo 3DS version due to issues on the hardware power that Sakurai mentions in the Super Smash Bros. Direct video that all fighters will get 60 FPS in the Nintendo 3DS version during in the development that caused the problem during in the debug testing. But, Sakurai mentions that the Ice Climbers were running perfectly in the Wii U version, but nothing says if he decides to keep them or cuts them also in Wii U version.[1]
Single-player story mode
Initially, Sakurai announced that the game would have a single-player story mode akin to Brawl's Subspace Emissary. Later on, he revealed that this new mode would not have any cutscenes, due to Sakurai's dislike of people prematurely showing off the cutscenes on video-sharing sites such as YouTube and Twitch. Eventually however, the idea for a story mode of any kind was completely killed.
