Choco Island 1 is the first course of the Flower Cup in Super Mario Kart and reappears, as a retro stage, in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, using the background of Sunset Wilds. The stage is based on Chocolate Island from Super Mario World. It is a very short course and one lap typically takes not much more than twenty seconds to complete. Its hazards are Piranha Plants which will make the driver slide once contacted. Another obstacle is slippery mud, which makes it difficult to steer. There are also many small bumps in the road, causing karts to automatically hop somewhat, also increasing control difficulty. When driving off the regular road on the darker ground, the kart slows down extremely, unless a star or a mushroom is used. There is only one place where items can be obtained, just after the start.
