Hongo is the leader of the Yoshi Island Spirits. He is firm and elderly but shows he can be forgiving at times. He is responsible for sealing [[Yoshi's Island (place)|Yoshi Island]] in the [[Forbidden Pop-Up Book]] and for the banishment of the [[Spirit Who Loves Surprises]].

The Yoshi Island Spirits have only appeared in the game Yoshi Topsy-Turvy. Each spirit give to Yoshi a mission, and if Yoshi completes the mission, they give to him a Happiness Medal. Their leader is Hongo. The Spirits include:

Hongo is the leader of the Yoshi Island Spirits and the Spirit in control of the Forbidden Pop-Up Book. Spirit Who Loves Surprises

The Spirit Who Loves Surprises is a mischievous Spirit who was fired by Hongo. He give to Yoshi the power the entire world and assisted him throughout the game, and hosted the Bonus Mission! as well. At The Tale of Fake Bowser's Field, he controls a Fake Bowser to attack Yoshi as a test to see if he is ready to battle with Bowser. He is based off of a jester.

Spirit of Cuteness

The Spirit of Cuteness can be described as a round, pink creature with wings and red spirals in the cheeks. She also makes a buzzing sound while flying. She cares very much about the Egglings, and explained to Yoshi what Bowser did with the Egglings and ask to Yoshi to save them.

Spirit of Greed

Main article: Spirit of Greed

Also known as Spirit of Money, the spirit resembles a golden mouse who has a pouch full of money, and is the embodiment of greed itself. It also resembles Tap-Tap the Red Nose. To go to the next chapter, Yoshi had to collect a amount of coins Coins in the level.

Spirit of Power

Also known as the Spirit of Strength and the Spirit of Mightiness, the Spirit of Power is the strongest of the spirits inhabiting Yoshi's Island. He resembles an obese purple genie with a goatee. His missions require to Yoshi defeat a number of enemies. This trial is almost the exact opposite of the Spirit of Kindness.

Spirit of Speed

Also known as the Spirit of Swiftness, this energetic Spirit loves to challenge others to races. Despite being so competitive, she is very friendly.

Spirit of Kindness

Main article: Spirit of Kindness

The Spirit of Kindness in a benevolent and gentle spirit who resembles a rose. Her tasks for Yoshi always involved defeating the least amount of enemies in a level as possible.

Spirit of Fright

Main article: Spirit of Fright

Also known as the Spirit of Scariness, the Spirit of Fright is a Spirit that like to scare people. To satisfy himself, he sets up a giant rolling spindle with spikes to scare Yoshi. Yoshi must reach the goal and avoid being sucked in the spikes. To go along with his frightful demeanor, he resembles a Mummy.
