In late July of 2020, the source code for many prototypes of [[Super Nintendo Entertainment System|Super Nintendo]] games were dumped online, and include many sprites showing various entities in different stages of creation, as well as wholly unused concepts. Most prominently, several assets indicate that Yoshi was planned to ferry an infant wizard rather than Baby Mario; the wizard would use their magic to facilitate Yoshi's various transformations, turning Yoshi eggs into sentient vehicles while encasing themself and Yoshi in a bubble. In a leaked prototype build dated to December 6, 1994, the wizard was still present as a form that Baby Mario could turn into through the use of an item, with this iteration being able to turn certain enemies into objects with spells.
