Hello, do you know if the images you are uploading are using the FCEUX or MESEN type of NES palettes? While it doesn't really matter for blank-and-white ones, for colored ones, MESEN is definitely preferable, since FCEUX settings tend to make the colors look really garish and wrong. A lot of the *really old* files that have not been replaced use the FCEUX palettes, particularly animations. For instance, in Firebro.gif, the old palette is FCEUX and the new one is MESEN. :I'm aware of the difference between the color palette of those emulators, which is why I've been using Mesen to take screenshots and isolate the sprites instead of FCEUX. Mesen has the palette which is more accurate to how the sprites are displayed on real hardware; plus, Mesen is the more accurate emulator in general anyway. Note how the SMB3 Lava.gif I created has a more muted red color, which matches the color of the updated Firebro.gif. 17:12, June 3, 2023 (EDT)

::Thank you. I dread having to replace all those FCEUX ones alone. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:17, June 3, 2023 (EDT)
::By the way, are you planning on getting all the level-specific color variance? I've been wanting to do that for the benefit of accuracy on the individual level pages (plus being more complete). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:05, June 5, 2023 (EDT)
:::I might do that eventually, but now that the Objects table on the SMB3 article is finally complete as it should be, I think I've had enough for the time being. If you want to continue where I left off, I've been taking screenshots with Mesen, isolating the sprites against a transparent background with Paint.NET, and animating GIFs out of those sprites with ezgif.com. The only caveat with ezgif.com is that the animation speed is very slightly imprecise, because it can only display a frame with precision to a hundredth of a second (so most frames will display for 0.13 seconds, instead of exactly 8/60 frames per second ≈ 0.133333... seconds), but it should do the job just fine. 21:20, June 5, 2023 (EDT)
::::Yeah, I use Paint.net and unFREEZ, myself, which works similar. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:49, June 5, 2023 (EDT)
I have found that MESEN cannot open Disk System games, but NEStopia can. I can tell the palette on it is better than FCEUX's weird pinkness, but I am not sure about how it compares to MESEN. Do you know? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:28, July 14, 2023 (EDT)
:I took a screenshot of World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. 3 in both Nestopia and Mesen to compare their palettes directly, and they use almost exactly the same, hardware-accurate palette by default. Most of the colors' RGB values matched exactly between the emulators, and when there was a difference, it was only ever by a single unit. These are the colors that differed:
:*Dark green: RGB (13, 147, 0) on Nestopia, and (12, 147, 0) on Mesen.
:*Pink: RGB (255, 204, 197) on Nestopia, and (254, 204, 197) on Mesen.
:*White: RGB (255, 255, 255) on Nestopia, and (255, 254, 255) on Mesen.
:There might also be some extraordinarily minor differences between other colors, but regardless, for all intents and purposes, the palettes are identical. 14:29, July 14, 2023 (EDT)
::Great, thanks! Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 09:34, July 15, 2023 (EDT)
Your proposal
I read your "italicizing merchandise" proposal, as here's what I think. According to the section "Apps and video games" on Grammarly, titles of board games, card games, and other such games shouldn't be italicized. However, if the title of a video game, movie, or any other such thing is in the title of a tabletop game, I think only that part should be italicized (as I've done on articles such as Super Mario Labyrinth, Mario Kart Wii Grand Prix, and Jenga: Super Mario Edition), not the entire tabletop game. Is there a way you could add that option to your proposal? Dwhitney (talk) 14:05, June 11, 2023 (EDT)
:Unfortunately, although your point is valid, I don't think I'd be able to change the proposal now that more than 3 days have passed since I created it, per rule 14 of MarioWiki:Proposals. I've read Grammarly's article about italics, and I have some thoughts which I've elaborated upon in the comments to my proposal. 20:04, June 11, 2023 (EDT)
