Appears in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

100m Freestyle is an Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The object of the event is to swim two lengths of a large pool in the fastest time, racing against other swimmers, with the event taking place at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.

Gameplay

In this event, before the player starts, they charge up power by holding the R Button after "Ready" appears on the screen. When "Go" appears on the screen, the player must tilt the Control Stick downwards to start. With the right timing, this will give the character a burst of speed, but doing so too early will delay their start. Once in the water, the player must move both Control Sticks as displayed, depending on the character's stroke:

Once the character reaches the end of the pool, the player must hold R Button to charge power and tilt the left Control Stick down to kick off the wall of the pool. With the right timing, the character will receive a burst of speed and the Super Gauge will fill up.

During the race, a bar will be displayed above the character, which displays the speed of the strokes. The player must keep their bar filled up to the yellow zone in order to fill the Super Gauge, but going too fast will make the character overheat and the Super Gauge will not be filled. When the Super Gauge is at least half-full, the player can press R Button to activate their Super Swim, but they must not use it too early as their character will slow down afterward.
