Bees are insects. They first appeared in Yoshi's Story, where they would fly around their beehive, and won't let Yoshi pass. Yoshi had to walk slowly so he wouldn't bother the Bees.
Other larger bees also appeared in Yoshi's Story, as enemies that would sting Yoshis if he got too close.
Bees also appear in Super Mario Sunshine. Various Beehives could be found in Bianco Hills, Gelato Beach, and Pianta Village. If Mario got too close to a beehive, or knocked one down, the bees would swarm him, causing damage if he gets stung. Yoshi could eat these bees for one Coin each. The last Bee to be eaten always gave up a Blue Coin or 1-Up Mushroom.
Another species of Bees appears in Super Mario Galaxy. These bees are friendly to Mario and work for the Queen Bee. Also, a Bee Suit appears.
