In this game, worlds are known as "kingdoms" (much like in ''Super Mario Land''), and the world map is depicted as a globe showing the Odyssey's current trajectory as Mario and Cappy travel to the Moon (which can be seen orbiting said globe) to try and stop Bowser's wedding to Peach. Mario can access the world map by throwing Cappy onto a smaller model of the globe located on the Odyssey's hull. The globe depicts a planet vaguely resembling Earth, although the globe's continents look different: the western hemisphere features a landmass resembling Pangaea, as well as islands resembling a mushroom (the Mushroom Kingdom), a top hat (the Cap Kingdom), and a Triceratops head (the Cascade Kingdom); while the eastern hemisphere features landmasses resembling Laurasia and Gondwanaland, respectively. Interestingly enough, the Moon's maria looks just like in real life, although located on the southern hemisphere instead on the side facing the real Earth.
