The '''Hammerhead Bros.''' are two master blacksmiths from ''[[Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga]]'' who both resemble and forge [[Hammer]]s. The elder brother, '''Sledge''', is red, while his younger brother, '''Mallet''', is green, much like [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]]. They provide Mario and Luigi with Hammers and Hammer upgrades. They are first encountered in [[Hoohoo Village]], after Mario and Luigi's path is blocked by a rock dropped by [[Fawful]]. Mario and Luigi have to supply the Hammerhead Bros. with [[Hoohoo Block]]s to create Hammers, which can be used to destroy the aforementioned rock. Before Mario and Luigi enter [[Beanbean Fields|Beanbean Outskirts]], the Hammerhead Bros. show up to teach them how to use their hammer in battle.

Later, the Hammerhead Bros. are visited in their new homes at [[Beanbean Fields|Beanbean Outskirts]] by Mario and Luigi after [[Gray Rock|a stronger rock]] blocks their path to [[Teehee Valley]]. The Hammerhead Bros. gladly upgrade their hammers to [[Super Hammer]]s. They upgrade their hammers once more to [[Ultra Hammer]]s when Mario and Luigi are blocked by [[Black Rock|an even stronger rock]] towards [[Oho Ocean]].

In ''[[Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions]]'', the Hammerhead Bros. have the same role as they did in the original game during the main story, though before Mario and Luigi go to Teehee Valley, they will appear near the entrance of [[Beanbean Castle]], telling the brothers that they have moved to the caverns of [[Beanbean Fields]]. [[Captain Goomba (Mario & Luigi series)|Captain Goomba]] and his squad encounter the Hammerhead Bros. in the ''Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser'' level [[For the Love of Hammers]], where they welcome a pair of Hammer Bros. into their family and sing a song about their love for Hammers together. However, when Captain Goomba want the Hammer Bros. in his squad, the Hammer Bros. don't want to leave, although after hearing [[Bowser]] was in danger, they consider leaving. Sledge then suggest that they should do a battle and Mallet suggesting the loser does what winner says, with Captain Goomba emerging victorious. The Hammerhead Bros. say good-bye, while the Hammer Bros. encourage the Hammerhead Bros. that they will be able to make the Ultra Hammer someday. For the parting gift, they  wanted to sing the hammer song again and asks Captain Goomba, who says no, which prompts Sledge to tell him how to view cutscenes already seen.
