The '''Foyer''' (referred to as the '''Entrance''' in a pre-release version)<ref>{{media link|LM Prerelease Foyer Entrance.jpg}}</ref> is a location in ''[[Luigi's Mansion]]'' and its [[Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS)|Nintendo 3DS version]]. It is the first room of Area One to be explored, the first room overall to be explored, and always the first room to be explored during a new visit, including [[Luigi]]'s first visit. The Foyer is the only room, excluding the hallways, with two floors. Initially, all three sets of doors are locked, with the doors on the first floor being blocked off by a special force field. There are two vases and a drawer on the second floor, all of which are empty. On the first floor, there is a [[Mirror (object)|mirror]] covered by a cloth that Luigi can vacuum up. The Foyer also has a large chandelier, and if Luigi steps underneath the chandelier, it spins and falls to the floor a few seconds later, damaging Luigi if he is hit. [[Chauncey]]'s laughter sound is heard whenever the chandelier hits the ground, suggesting that it is controlled by Chauncey. After Chauncey is captured, this event no longer occurs.

When Luigi first enters the Foyer, let alone the mansion itself, every door in the room is locked, including the double doors on the first floor, the double doors on the second floor, and the door in the west wall on the second floor. Upon attempting to open the double doors on the second floor, Luigi hears a strange sound and walks down to the first floor, where the transparent figure of a [[Gold Ghost]] appears holding a [[Key]]. After a moment, it drops the key and levitates over the stairs and through the doors on the second floor. With the key, Luigi can unlock the doors to enter the [[Parlor (Luigi's Mansion)|Parlor]].

After Luigi meets [[Professor E. Gadd]] and receives the [[Poltergust 3000]], he returns to the Foyer, and while its general layout is the same, a [[Toad (species)|Toad]] now appears sobbing near the west staircase. If spoken to, the Toad reveals he was sent by [[Princess Peach]] to find Mario due to his extended absence. If Luigi vows to find Mario, the Toad lights up, as does the room. From this point on, Luigi can speak to the Toad at any time to save his progress, except during the [[blackout]], since Toad does not appear during it.

To unlock the door on the west side of the second floor, Luigi must obtain the key in the chest after clearing the [[Wardrobe Room]]. Before unlocking this door, Professor E. Gadd calls Luigi to inform him of the nearby [[portrait ghost]]s. This door leads to a hallway connecting to the [[Study (Luigi's Mansion)|Study]], [[Master Bedroom (Luigi's Mansion)|Master Bedroom]], [[Nursery]], and [[The Twins' Room]]. Later on, the doors on the first floor can be unlocked once Luigi has the Main Hall Key, obtained after defeating [[Chauncey]].

Excluding the Gold Ghost at the start, the Foyer is one of the few rooms to not have any ghosts, including [[Boo]]s. However, after Luigi releases every Boo from the [[Storage Room (Luigi's Mansion)|Storage Room]], the Toad in the Foyer claims that he saw a large Boo pass by.

If Luigi uses the [[Game Boy Horror]] to scan any of the mirrors, including the one in the Foyer but not the one in the [[Mirror Room]], he is teleported to the center of the Foyer.

In the [[Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS)|Nintendo 3DS remake]], Luigi may exit the mansion and return to [[The Lab]] at any time by exiting through the entrance in the Foyer, except during the blackout, since there is a "mysterious force" blocking the entrance.
