This planet is shaped like a giant skull and is surrounded by bones that Mario cannot access. [[Mario]] lands on the skull's lower jaw upon arriving at the galaxy. If he performs a [[Spin]] on the eyes of the skull, he will get three [[Star Bit]]s. There is a single pipe which takes Mario to the Spooky Speedster Planet. The background environment seen in this area is based upon that from [[Ghostly Galaxy]].

Through the underground tunnels, there is a river of flowing ghosts, as well as [[spring (Super Mario Galaxy)|spring]]s, fans, and many skeletons (after the finish line). During the race, the tunnels can sometimes warp.
