Bashmaster, the Unbreakable is a large polar bear and the boss of Juicy Jungle in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. He is the fifth boss in the game.

At some unspecified point in time, Bashmaster was appointed as a high-ranking member of the Snomads, and was sent to conquer Juicy Jungle, which he obediently did, simultaneously taking residence in the fruit production plant as well as completely taking it over. When Donkey Kong and co. eventually infiltrated the factory, they found the polar bear peacefully enjoying one of its products: a popsicle. However, they accidentally landed on the ground he was laying on and shook it, causing him to drop his popsicle into the surrounding pool of juice where it was immediately devoured by a school of piranhas. Angered by his loss, Bashmaster challenged the sheepish Kongs to a fight, but lost and was sent reeling away.

Bashmaster is a large and burly polar bear who (unlike most members of his species) walks entirely on his hind legs. His head is unusually small, (as are his eyes) and the lower part of his torso is larger than the upper half. Predictably, he is covered in white fur (which is really transparent, but looks white due to the sunlight) though it turns purple after he is knocked into the juice pool numerous times. His only garments are a belt with the Snowmad insignia on it, and some brown bracelets around his biceps and wrists.

Bashmaster's weapon of choice is a large mallet which resembles a sledge hammer with half of its head missing. The handle is long and thin, and the head has a flat end and a more rounded one. The round end is covered in spikes, while the flat end is covered by nothing but metal, making it safe for the Kongs to touch.

In spite of his tough exterior, Bashmaster has a somewhat laid back and carefree attitude, and an affinity for popsicles, which he deliberately eats slowly in order to savor them properly. However, he is rather hot-tempered, picking a fight with others over something as simple as losing his food (hinting at a somewhat gluttonous nature) and ignoring any guilt that they may show him. He is also shown to like cold areas, as shown by the arena he fights in, and with the arenas used for previous boss fights as any indication, he may be less tolerant to warm climates than the previous bosses are.

Powers and abilities

As one would expect for a being of his size, Bashmaster has very high physical strength and can create shockwaves by jumping. His massive girth can also dislodge ice blocks from the ceiling, which he can ram through with just his head. Bashmaster is also quite proficient in using his hammer, which he uses to either knock ice blocks at his foes, send out shockwaves, or outright strike them from above. However, his hammer can become lodged in the ground, leaving him vulnerable while he's trying to pull it out. Despite his bulk, Bashmaster can also move somewhat fast, though he is susceptible to ice physics and can fall on his rear and slide uncontrollably (though he can recover sometimes, he is completely vulnerable otherwise).

  • Bashmaster is the only boss character in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze who fights on a completely frozen arena. All bosses fought before him are fought in more tropical climates, while Lord Fredrik's fight takes place on an arena that only freezes at certain points.
