Wing Mario in mid-flight

When Mario wears a Wing Cap in Super Mario 64, He becomes Wing Mario, which grants him the ability to fly with the small wings on his cap until the time-limit expires. In order for Mario to attain flight, he must first perform a Triple Jump or be shot from a Cannon. Once in the air, Mario would have to constantly raise and lower himself to maintain flight. He could also use his wings to slow his fall after a jump, allowing not to lose any health. Wing Mario returned in the remake, Super Mario 64 DS, and served the same purpose from the original but was achieved by collecting a feather (instead of the Wing Cap) which would only appear for Mario. He could slow his fall as well, but he would still lose health if the fall was too high.

Trivia

  • In the multiplayer version of Super Mario 64 DS, there are yellow ! Blocks which contain feathers. This allowed Luigi, Wario & Yoshi to use a wing form similar to Mario's.
  • Wing Mario makes an appearance in one of Mario Party title screens, where he is shown flying through the air, holding Luigi and Yoshi by their hands.
