Chief Yoshi is the Yoshi chief of the only village on Lavalava Island, Yoshi's Village, during the events of Paper Mario. He shows Mario the way to Raphael the Raven and gives him the Jade Raven. He is a Green Yoshi, chubby, and wears a green feather on his head.
He seems to be friends with Raphael the Raven and is loved by all his fellow villagers.
