Clean means source location with little to nothing interfering with starting quality. Most emulators render to bitmap and save to PNG directly while some still output as a bitmap only. Homebrew screenshot taking for 3DS (HANS) saves screenshots in a raw form and then has a separate tool convert them to PNG. Why it is important to do BMP to PNG instead of BMP to JPEG to PNG is that the compression is less with the ladder. Also, it is more fair to those with slow or metered connections. For example, I know [[:File:SM3DL Tapped Icon.png]] can be less in file size because the background elements are very redundant if the PNG compressor had access to the BMP instead of the JPEG. That image even has an archived version of a very bad case scenario of the file showing the consequences of JPEG converted to PNG. The PNG compressor sees very subtle grain that JPEG produces instead of a flat solid color. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 17:43, 1 September 2016 (EDT)

Current Talk

I am always super excited to receive a message on my talkpage. Really, it's kind of scary how happy it makes me. If you want to talk about editing or just talk conversationally, drop a message. I don't mind if you have constructive criticism on my work or if you noticed something I should do differently (I forgot some things in my retirement, after all). Let me know what you think about my editing if you really feel like it. Just be mature about it and I will too.

Here are some subjects I will be most useful in editing/answering questions for:

  • Donkey Kong Country series
  • Donkey Kong Land series
  • Diddy Kong Racing
  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Honestly, any DK game you can think of
  • Information on retro games such as SMW - I own many old games
  • Basic information from the Mario games that I own. Most of them are listed on my userpage.

Kart Combination in Mario Kart 7

Since you have Mario Kart 7, what's your favourite kart combination? Mine's the Bruiser, Red Monster, and any glider that gives off stat boosts (in other words, the Paraglider, Swooper, Flower Glider, and the Peach Parasol). I use different gliders at certain times. - Holy user in a talk page! (talk) 10:02, 4 November 2012 (EST)

yo

It's been a while since I've last seen you. Anything good going on recently? --Glowsquid (talk) 21:13, 4 January 2014 (EST)

Yeah once high school hit I've been pretty nonexistent around here haha. Life definitely likes to get in the way. Nice to see things haven't changed much for the Mario Wiki. I like to check around here every once and I while. Fawfulfury65 (talk)

I hope you remember me (LeftyGreenMario) and my Wario-hating sister. We're out of high school and we miss you. :P Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:13, 4 January 2014 (EST)

Holy crap haha of course I remember everyone. Wow it has been a long time! How is life after high school? Still watching out for Wario? He's a dangerous one. Fawfulfury65
Well, we haven't been doing much. Heheh. It's a big relief after four years of academic agony... :'[. We're trying to enroll in community college so we can transfer to a bigger college, and we're waiting for slots so we can be in classes. Our Wario radars are still up, fortunately, so we're still keeping a watch out for Wario. ;P

I'm in the midst of suffering year number two of academic agony. Well, it's not all that bad. I mean, there's no Wario there at least, you know? It gets me pretty busy sometimes though. Good thing the Mario Wiki made me better at writing haha. Good luck in college :p Fawfulfury65
Oh, editing here does improve my grammar skills; people have commented on my hawk-eye for grammar errors. All years for me were not great. :< It does get busy, but you're not in junior year... that's a doozy. You're taking AP classes yet? Well... you may have to take a lot of them in junior year. I hope college will turn out all right... if I get a slot.

Sophomores in my school can take an AP World Cultures class but after taking all honors classes I decided to just take the regular World Cultures. Junior year is when you can start taking most of the AP classes. I'll probably take AP English. Working my way up to Programming III class too, which is supposed to become an AP class. Ouch, school will be painful but hey I guess it pays off. What are you going to school for? Fawfulfury65

Age

How old are you as of now? A few years ago, you were stated to be 13 at that time, so I'm assuming you're either 15 or 16 right now. - Holy user in a talk page! (talk) 11:45, 31 August 2014 (EDT)

Hey

For whatever reason, I decided to log on here and look back on my old conversations, which brought back memories haha. I thought I'd drop you a message on the off chance you are still active here. It'd be nice to see what you're up to nowadays. Happy (1- day late) Thanksgiving, Ratfink43

Screenshot Submissions

I see you have returned (somewhat) to editing. File:Obstacle Race 3.png, use an emulator instead. It offers the best quality. If you need help which emulator to use and how to get a screenshot as fast as possible, check out my WIP guide. Sysops have looked at it and they generally recommend it. At some point, I would like to see it become an official help page, but there are some things that aren't ready yet. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:07, 26 August 2016 (EDT)

Welcome back again! Hehee, sorry about not responding to the previous question. I think something distracted me, and I forgot all about it. If there is anything you're wondering that happened while you're gone, you can ask. It's just that... 2016 is a.... very sad year for MarioWiki. If you don't already know about it, I think now is the best. You can spend some time in the link there or in this thread, but I think it's very important to know, especially if you plan on being active again. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. I wanted to ask you how your day has gone but I'm afraid that I count as a sockpuppet of Bazooks and therefore my greetings won't count :( BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 21:33, 28 August 2016 (EDT)
That's okay, I'm a sockpuppet too, a sockpuppet of myself to be exact. Shh! So I'll tell you, I've had a wonderful day. Most of it involved visiting family, being bored, and playing Final Fantasy on my laptop. Plus, I've been reading The Lord of the Rings. Highly recommended. Fawfulfury65
Ah, ha ha, I didn't see you write about it. I'm still trying to get over it, especially since I'm working on drawing and haven't touched it in a while. This year is also crazy for me, my personal life. Oh man, I have... family problems. I mean, serious family problems, not just having the argument here and there. You know, to the point of us hurting ourselves... so there's that too. I posted a thread about it, and people were really shocked. If you want to know a little more, I can tell you.
Oh, yeah, Diddy Kong Racing. I was working on it, but my motivation ran low because it seems like people don't care that I'm concerned about the quality of those track articles. I hope you work hard on those articles though. It's really nice seeing you again. I really missed you. Oh, one more thing: Wario. He's out and about and there's going to be another cleansing by the defenders of Mushroom Kingdom on my talk page. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! RE: File Type Question

In order to understand PNG vs. JPEG, you have to understand how they operate, what they are best applied to, and where to find the best source before applying compression. This is going to be a long reply. Bitmaps are what a computer monitor or graphics card understands in memory and processing. They can also be saved in a file format for storage. Compression formats come with decompressors so that way it can become understandable by the hardware.

The most basic way I can describe PNG is that it is a bitmap image (raw) with a compression methodology applied to it that has no data or picture quality loss to it, similar to that of *.zip, *.rar, and *.7z files how the contents of those files don't have errors or corruption when the files extracted. JPEG is a resampling of the bitmap that approximates what a particular pixel value might be by separating the bitmap into different blocks or chunks. More approximations means less blocks and higher compression at the cost of picture quality. Even at the maximum quality setting for JPEG, there is some pixel data loss, just at its minimal. It is just easier to work with PNGs as that retains all original quality the bitmap had. PNG is best where there are a lot of solid colors or text in the picture (PNG has very high compression rates) while JPEG is better for grainy-looking visuals (PNG compression performs terribly as the file size isn't reduced very much). I have a user page picture that gives a humorous view between the two formats. Here's a professional overview of compression:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lto-ajuqW3w (JPEG compression starts at 4:28 but I recommend viewing the entire video)

For Miiverse, keep the original format the image was submitted in (JPEG). Don't convert it to PNG as no quality gains happen and the file size gets bloated. If an experienced screenshot submitter spots a screenshot in the JPEG format, that means that at some point they will have to replace it with a clean PNG counterpart.
