Throwback Galaxy is a galaxy which is, or features (it is possible that there may be more planets), a redesigned Whomp's Fortress from Super Mario 64, and is confirmed to make an appearance in Super Mario Galaxy 2. The music is also an orchestrated arrangement of the original Super Mario 64 main theme, as the original version was also played on Whomp's Fortress. New enemies were added, such as the Paragoombas, Skeeters and Wigglers. Other enemies seen first in the original game also return like Piranha Plants, Thwomps and Whomps. Some Bob-omb Buddies also appear in the galaxy. A Whomp is found at the top of the area, and defeating it will open an area where the Whomp King is found. A Comet Medal, Rainbow Notes (released from breaking a crate, playing the Super Mario Bros. Underground Theme) and a bonus planet can be found in the stage too featuring Piranha Plants, which is located in the same place as the Caged Island, along with several Cloud Flowers.

Return of The Whomp King

The first mission here s very reminiscent of the same mission in Super Mario 64 and it's DS remake, witha few minor changes. Now, when the player gets to the top, they fight a regular Thwomp, and upon its defeat, a hole opens up in the ground, taking the player to a sole platform, whe the player fights the now even bigger Thwomp King. The ground he will pound is now highlighted red, and the player can walk up his legs. Ground Pound an inprint on his back three times, where he will utter the same dialogue as in the original Super Mario 64, as well as then hitting the ground saying "Darn" and will turn into star.
