The Tanooki Suit is a rare item found in Super Mario Bros. 3 and its subsequent remakes. The suit grants the same abilities as the Super Leaf plus more. Using the suit, Mario can temporarily transform into an
invulnerable statue, protecting the plumber from harm. However, he also becomes immobile. Additionally, Mario can actually transform in the air and drop on enemies, destroying them, even enemies thought to be indestructible.
The term Tanooki refers to the mythical Japanese animal known as a Tanuki. The Tanuki is a master shapeshifter and uses this ability to disguise himself.
Tanooki are also a species founed in the Marioverse.
