PEGI rating

PEGI 7 rating is confirmed in this game, I saw this in Nintendo eShop page. --PetrPro (talk) 11:56, June 21, 2023 (EDT)

Blue Toad

The article says that Blue Toad is playable. While the Goomba on the key art might be wearing a mushroom cap resembling Blue Toad's, I think that's not concrete proof that he is indeed playable. -Definitely not Sascha (talk)

Seems good enough to me, considering the trailer confirmed at least 4 colors of Yoshi at once. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:12, June 21, 2023 (EDT)
I agree. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 14:17, June 21, 2023 (EDT)
Just seems strange to me that they go out of their way to show all the Yoshis, but Blue Toad not once. -Definitely not Sascha (talk)
I'd rather avoid the speculation. A Blue Toad cap being in artwork could mean just about anything this early on, so for now we should avoid saying that he's definitely playable, or even in the game - for all we know there could just be a Goomba that wears the cap for some reason. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 15:16, June 21, 2023 (EDT)
I went ahead and removed it, and it should not be readded until we know for sure what the deal is with that Goomba. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 17:02, June 21, 2023 (EDT)
Mary's Response: Thanks for this info. I shall now respond!
Hmmm... I think I may have a theory here, based on this infamous "Goomba With Blue Toad's Cap" topic. And that theory is: The game could POSSIBLY have ANOTHER new powerup, where you can MORPH INTO A GOOMBA!?!?
Just think! in the key artwork, the goomba has Blue Toad's cap, right? AND we know that this game will have new powerups, like the Elephant Fruit (That's what I'm gonna call it, anyway). So maybe, there will be a new Goomba-Morph powerup, similar to the Goomba Mask in Super Mario 3D World! It makes sense, don't you think?
User:AnimeTreehouseOfficial
We'll just have to wait and see what happens in the game, we're not including anything based on fan theories. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 19:14, June 25, 2023 (EDT)
I do agree we should probably wait, but seeing as the spike ball and stretchy forms appear as wonder effects, it's likely the Goomba will as well. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:12, June 25, 2023 (EDT)

Well, it looks like Nintendo has cleared the situation up during today's game focused-Direct. Yes, Blue Toad is playable, and yes, you can turn into a Goomba during gameplay. DK Fan

The Flower Kingdom

According to the world map footage of Luigi, the first two levels are "Welcome to the Flower Kingdom!" and "Piranha Plants on Parade". I was wondering if we should start compiling a "Locations" section to describe parts of levels seen in trailer footage, known levels, and world map areas. I'm also wondering where we could mention that this game will be taking place in the Flower Kingdom. MarioComix (talk) 06:08, June 22, 2023 (EDT)

Missing form

Just wanted to say that in the part of the trailer where they are falling throught the clouds you can see they are under the effects of the Super Star, I can't edit so please someone add both the Super Star and the Invincible form.

Items

Can you please add "Checkpoint Flag" to the items list? I saw some in the trailer. Can you please add "Checkpoint Flag"? Please. 73.144.173.107 20:45, June 22, 2023 (EDT)

Daisy's artwork: Similar or different pose artwork?

I notice that Daisy's artwork that it seems to be familiar. It looks like Daisy's pose from London Tour's launch artwork, if we compare to Daisy's artwork in this game and the launch artwork for London Tour, the pose feels slightly different. So here is the comparison:

Should we consider Daisy's pose in Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the same pose or being the pose looks different? --ExoRosalina (talk) 10:45, June 21, 2023 (PHT)

Looks like the same pose. --Whirlwind It's Meester Tweester! 13:03, June 24, 2023 (EDT)

Bowser Jr. Speculation

I personally think we should refrain from speculating about "A new form of Bowser Jr.". This in no way has been confirmed by Nintendo. 73.31.13.208 20:31, July 1, 2023 (EDT)SquireTurnbolt

Well, here is a screenshot from the Direct trailer. If you ask me, it certainly looks like Bowser Jr. MarioComix (talk) 21:55, July 1, 2023 (EDT)

Princess Daisy's appearance

As Princess Daisy is a playable character in this game, would that make this, excluding Super Mario Run, her Super Mario Bros Debut? Kangaflora (talk) 09:29, July 3, 2023 (EDT)

No offense, but that's basically saying "it's her playable debut if you don't count the game she was playable in previously". Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 10:27, July 3, 2023 (EDT)
We could say it's her first appearance on a home console Super Mario Bros. game, since her previous 2 appearances in the series (Super Mario Land and Super Mario Run) are both for handheld consoles (Game Boy and mobile phones respectively. New voices?

Okay, I CAN'T be the only one who's noticing that not just Mario, but even the other playable characters don't really sound the same way they did in past games, right? Defefefe (talk) 17:21, July 11, 2023 (EST)

Could just be different direction, or because they're using entirely original voice clips instead of reused ones. Either way, it's all speculation, so not something that really belongs in the article, unless something official comes out confirming a change. Landfish7 (talk) 17:31, July 12, 2023 (EDT)

Saw the news as well, it's a shame Martinet is stepping down after so long, so I hope whoever is taking over as Mario and Luigi does a good job succeeding him Defefefe (talk) 14:19, August 21, 2023 (EST)

Bowser 100% Confirmed

Bowser's just been 100% confirmed to be the main villain of this game (though it was kinda obvious from the trailer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8o3C9jKIc8 Defefefe (talk) 18:15, July 29, 2023 (EST)

Character exclusive powerups

So, according to this Brazilian Twitter post, every character will have they're own unique powerup, such as Elephant Mario for example: https://twitter.com/ThaleZOliver/status/1689073032524873728 Defefefe (talk) 17:25, August 9, 2023 (EST)

The screenshots (unless Google Translate is wrong) never mention anything about separate power-ups, only that they can be transformed with "new power-up items". Plus, the second image only mentions Elephant Mario: "Mario turns into Elephant Mario and can use the trunk to defeat enemies!" Even if the post is true, we can't exactly use unconfirmed information from an unofficial source like Twitter. At least it does confirm Elephant Mario uses his trunk as an attack, but that was clear beforehand. Yours truly, RetroNintendo2008. My talk pageMy sandbox 12:15, August 11, 2023 (EDT)

Charles Martinet Retiring

Not sure if this relates to the game or not, but I think I found out why Mario's voice sounds so different. Charles Martinet is officially retiring from voicing characters: https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1693624002982314108 Defefefe (talk) 10:35, August 21, 2023 (EST)

Purple Coin +0.1?

Is "Purple Coin +0.1" exclusive to "WFX"? Ffffff (talk) 22:47, August 25, 2023 (EDT)

Judging by the trailer, that does appear to be the case. Defefefe (talk) 07:04, August 26, 2023 (EST)

Levels

The Flower Kingdom seems to be the setting of the game, although it could also be the first world. A prominent element of terrain is a mountain range made of giant stone warp pipes, which is visible from several levels and parts of the world map. I watched the trailer and found at least 18 distinct levels, although I am not sure about some of them.

  • "Welcome to the Flower Kingdom!" is the first level of the game. It is grassy, with blue dirt. It features brick blocks, ? blocks, pipes (some of which shoot water), trees, and a fountain. To the left, a body of water separates the Flower Kingdom from the Mushroom Kingdom in the background. Enemies include sleeping goombas. Its wonder effect animates pipes. Power-ups include the Super Mushroom and a fruit that turns Mario into Elephant Mario. It has two wonder seeds and a difficulty of one star. (0:03,0:38,1:18,2:05,2:23)
  • "Piranha Plants on Parade" is the second level of the game. It is a jungle level featuring piranha plants and musical note blocks. There is also a background area that looks playable. It has two wonder seeds and a difficulty of one star. (0:18)
  • Very similar to the "Welcome to the Flower Kingdom!" in aesthetic, but features semisolid platforms, spherical hippos and goombrats. It is possibly the third level as seen in the first map shot. (0:22,1:04)
  • A level with cubic structures in the background and sliding rails. Enemies include spiked, leaping enemies and angry thunderclouds. In a higher area, there are cloud platforms and spiked, magenta enemies. (0:25,1:49)
  • A level featuring rainbow music blocks, clouds that rain water, koopa troopas and paratroopas. Wave and shell-shaped islands are visible in the background. An underwater area or similar level features cheep-cheeps and piped nudibranch-like creatures. (0:29,1:44)
  • An autumnal level featuring tall, mushroom-like trees, sloped semisolids, skating koopas and rainbow music blocks. The wonder effect makes Mario, the trees and a Goomba shrink and grow. (0:33,1:06)
  • A cave level where Mario turns into a spiked ball and breaks through brick blocks. Enemies include small bumblebee-esque creatures and Spinies. Buried stone slabs resembling rotating blocks appear as decorations. (1:09)
  • Three potentially different levels with the same aesthetic. A grassy level featuring sliding rails and a skating Wiggler; a level with rainbow music blocks, barrels and a chipmunk; and a level with angular trees where cloud-like ceratopsians stampede during the wonder effect. (1:15,1:30,1:40)
  • Probably the weakest connection. One is a level with balloon-like enemies and giant transparent empty blocks in the background. The other is a level with golden grass on cloudy terrain where Mario uses his hat as a parachute. They have the same cloud style. (1:33,1:51)
  • A deep, junglish level with poison, pipes, a snail and a pipe pusher. (1:35)
  • A ghost house (probably) where pipes are used to traverse background and foreground. In an outdoor area (set against the desert), an ON/OFF switch turns the lights off and on. (1:41,1:46)
  • An autumnal level with bamboo-like enemies, sleeping Goombas, mushroom platforms, orange mushrooms in the background, and pumpkins. (1:47)
  • A level in which the wonder effect makes a giant spiked ball roll towards Mario. (1:55)
  • A level in which players skydive through clouds that clear away when players pass near them. (1:58)
  • A castle in which Mario fights a Bowser Jr.-like boss that shrinks and grows periodically. Bowser's emblem is present in the ceiling. (2:00)
  • A level in which players ride a giant snowball that destroys crystal-like terrain. (2:01)
  • A level set outside Bowser's Castle, featuring Bullet Bill-like missiles. (2:03)
  • Bowser also has a flying vehicle that resembles both a Koopa Clown Car and his castle. It is unknown if this vehicle is a visitable area. (1:38)
  • Several unknown levels appear in a pink cloud world (1:39)

Welcome to the Flower Kingdom! is definitely eligible for an article, seeing as how we have several screenshots of it and whatnot. Piranha Plants on Parade may have to wait a while potentially, and the others will definitely have to wait until either release or more information surfaces. Yours truly, RetroNintendo2008. Possibly Maker games-inspired features

I feel like there are some features that could be inspired by Super Mario Maker games that are not obvious:

  • The Talking Flowers' dialogue feature feels like it is inspired by in-level comments.
  • The concept of Wonder Effects feel like they are inspired by night theme effects from Maker 2.

Does anyone feel the same? Could we add these as possibilities? Bro Hammer (TalkCont)

Idk, it feels more like a coincidence than anything. I don't suggest adding this until we know for sure if these were intentional references to the Mario Maker games. Defefefe (talk) 14:24, August 31, 2023 (EST)

Doors of Doom implies Doors

The mimic door enemy Luigi encounters implies real doors will be in the game, similar to the fake pole in Shifty Boo Mansion. I think it's plausible to assume that Doors will be a transportation option, like pipes. (edit: I'm pretty sure you can actually see a door behind Luigi in the characters section of the direct)

Bloomps & Bulrushes

Information about what the Bloomps and Bulrushes do, I hope this helps ^_^

(All info taken from the Gamescom 2023 video)

Bloomps

  • Bloomps slowly move and can be bounced on. They deflate the more you bounce on it, before fully deflating
  • They can also be seen getting inflated from green cannons/bullet bill launchers.
  • The pink variations move faster and therefore deflate faster

Bulrushes

  • Bulrushes try to ram into the player if they get close, and will destroy any hard blocks in their way.
  • They get knocked out for a bit when they hit a wall and will try to ram into the player again after.

Similar poses on the character select screen?

I noticed that Peach, Red Yoshi, and Yellow Yoshi's poses on the character select screen might be taken from Mario Party 8, Yoshi Topsy-Turvy, and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U respectively. Wanted to see what everyone thinks! -- KinokoBlast (talk) 13:02, September 1, 2023 (EST)

I removed SSB4 being a reference from the page earlier, but seeing as multiple of them are similar to past artwork, I think they might be based on them after all. Mario (Gold) costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 13:09, September 1, 2023 (EDT)

Super Mario 3D World

I am pretty sure that characters turning into beams of light when initiating a Wonder Effect and when waiting too long to enter a Pipe in multiplayer (I cannot remember where exactly I saw this last one, but I do remember seeing it in preview footage) is a reference to Super Mario 3D World where the exact same thing happens with Mystery Boxes, Pipes, etc. in multiplayer. Just wanted to leave this here to hear others' thoughts and to remember this detail.

Possible Musical Reference

This YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xrhlv-eu2M8) mentions that the level clear theme may be a reference to a motif from the New Super Mario Bros. series, but I was wondering what you all think since the similarity is pretty weak in my opinion. Jumbo Ray (talk)

New Goomba mechanic

I don't know if this was noticed before, but it turns out players don't take any damage from Goombas if they are either sleeping or have their backs turned: https://twitter.com/SuperMarioOOC85/status/1710455986182295880 Defefefe (talk) 7:57, October 7, 2023 (EST)

The player can be damaged when a Goomba has its back turned; "Goombas won’t hurt you if you touch them while they sleep and a bit after they wake up" but are still harmful when fully awake, even with their backs turned, as shown in the video. I noted this quality of sleeping Goombas a while back in the main article, though I will add the part about their harmlessness when in the process of waking up. Jumbo Ray (talk)

Lava and poison

Do lava and poison play different roles in the game?? Both of them will allow Mario to lose a life if touched. There has to be some difference in how they work. An example is that there's a power-up that can allow Mario to walk in lava, but poison will still kill him. 99.157.99.148 12:12, October 9, 2023 (EDT)

Firstly, by "power-up", I think you mean the Safety Bounce badge. Second, it's still unconfirmed if there is or not but there most likely isn't. I agree, we should check the internal name of Bulls Eye Bill in other games and Dragon Bullet in Wonder to see if they match or not.--Alternis (talk) 15:37, October 23, 2023 (EDT)
I don't know anything about how the game's enemies work right now since I'll be saving my playthrough for a later date, but here's what I can say about the Bullet Bills: this is apparently not Bull's-Eye Bill, which, if I recall right, tends to be either shared as a color swap of Killer or goes under KillerSearch, depending on the game. This enemy's model is labeled as EnemyKillerJoinNew.bfres.zs - and, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to be one of the enemies that doesn't have a localization string. I guess it would be "Join Killer" going by the direct internal name, since "New" most likely means that there was an old version of the enemy that for whatever reason got deleted. Other oddities: Seeker Bullet Bill is internally named EnemyMagChan.bfres.zs - maybe it wasn't originally a Bullet Bill - and Bloomp is EnemyKillerBalloon.bfres.zs - either it is or was supposed to be a Bullet Bill. And if anyone's wondering, Missile Meg is EnemyKillerLong.bfres.zs - in other words, its Japanese name. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:28, October 23, 2023 (EDT)

Hey, so when I was watching a Super Mario Bros Wonder gameplay video, at the penultimate level of the Special World (I think) at one point, we can see the Sproing enemy from the World 1 level Sproings in the Twilight Forest without the shadow effect. If you'll pardon the history lesson, Prima guides were bad during the time Nintendo Power made their own. But after the latter ended in 2006, that's when Nintendo started to crack the whip on Prima when it came to quality. It was all on Prima from that point, and their guides were that important. 67.181.156.89 09:53, November 8, 2023 (EST)
In my (I guess) controversial opinion, Prima guides were almost always better than Nintendo Power guides when both were officially published concurrently in the 2000's, which probably contributed to the downfall of the latter, but that's neither here nor there. I wouldn't be surprised if the Game Informer writer just ignores the question, because hardly anyone wants to be outed as making things up. So until proven otherwise, the names are taken to be conjectural, which is an article title's last resort. Though, I have a question of my own: since these names are getting popularized anyway, would creating redirects be okay? LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:55, November 8, 2023 (EST)

Internal names or conjectural names?

In the game's page some enemies without an official name are indicated with a conjectural name. In my opinion they should be indicated by their internal name (or the name in another language), since that will certainly be the name used on the respective pages.--Alternis (talk) 12:01, November 3, 2023 (EDT)

The conjectural name would only make sense for similar variants of the same enemy, for example "Bone Trottin' Piranha Plant" or "Big Trottin' Piranha Plant", since they are variants of Trottin' Piranha Plant.--Alternis (talk) 12:06, November 3, 2023 (EDT)

This is just a thought, but I think that if we have the official name for the normal version of an enemy, I see no reason why the Wonder and Dark enemy variants shouldn't follow the same naming convention. Standardize formatting of Super Mario Bros. Wonder course names

Proposal.svg This talk page section contains an unresolved talk page proposal. Please try to help and resolve the issue by voting or leaving a comment.

Current time: Sunday, May 12, 2024, 19:23 GMT

When we started getting wiki article material for this game, whoever first wrote the course names down had to take an arbitrary decision of how to format them. Now that the game is out, I think it's worth reanalyzing it and see what the consensus actually is. There are two interlinked proposals here:

Decide how to represent line breaks in level names

The problem: Stages like The Final Test Wonder Gauntlet are rendered in-game as The Final Test[line break]Wonder Gauntlet, splitting both halves of the name into two strings. The current standard for transliterating these doesn't properly capture this, so we have to come up with a way to represent a line break without using an actual line break.

My solution: I've seen a few pages write them with a colon (Badge Challenge: Parachute Cap I), but I don't think that's a good idea because there are actual stages with a colon in their name, such as The Midway Trial: Hop to It. Personally, I propose an em dash, rendering the name as The Final Test — Wonder Gauntlet. Stages like Badge Challenges and KO Arenas also have a line break, but use a different color for their supertitle. If the bottom proposal passes, the course supertitles would also have an em dash after them.

There might be other, better solutions for how to render this, so please leave them below to add them to the proposal.

Consider supertitles part of the course name

Should stages like Wall-Climb Jump I and Cloud Cover actually be named Badge Challenge Wall-Climb Jump I and Break Time! Cloud Cover? The current standard is that they're not part of the name, but 1) they're never displayed without the supertitle in-game, and 2) I believe it's more informative to have them on the article name. If the other proposal also passes, there would also be an em dash separating the supertitle from the course name.

Proposer: EvieMaybe (talk)
Deadline: November 25, 2023, 03:36 GMT

Represent line breaks with em dashes and consider supertitles part of the course name

  1. EvieMaybe (talk) i'm probably the person who cares the most about this on the planet.
  2. PopitTart (talk) per proposal. the line breaks should 100% have some kind of separation, and supertitles are still titles.

Represent line breaks with em dashes, do not consider supertitles part of the course name

Do not represent line breaks with em dashes, but consider supertitles part of the course name

  1. Rodmjorgeh (talk) This is the Nintendo way, and considering this is a wiki that's trying to be as official as possible I think this is the best route. The dash is not present anywhere and while it does look nicer, it proposes the wrong name and creates incorrect assumptions just like the colon, just not as much of a problem. It's also like this in MSBT files - files that hold the text used in the game. Not only that, but when you place a Standee in a supertitled course (let's say, Badge Challenge Parachute Cap I) and someone uses it, it does say the whole thing, but without line breaks and without dashes: "The standee that was placed in the course Badge Challenge Parachute Cap I has been used.". Nintendo way is best way for sure
  2. MarioComix (talk) Per Rodmjorgeh.
  3. Jdtendo (talk) Per Rodmjorgeh. Moreover, several course names span over two lines whilst both lines are clearly not supposed to be separated ("Welcome to the⏎Flower Kingdom!"), or it is ambiguous whether both lines should be separated ("Pipe-Rock Plateau⏎Palace"). Therefore, choosing when replacing the line break with a dash or not would be arbitrary.
  4. Hewer (talk) Per all.
  5. Sparks (talk) Per all.
  6. Swallow (talk) Per all
  7. FanOfYoshi (talk) Per all.
  8. Arend (talk) I was always supportive of using the courses' full titles, but I was wondering how we should represent the supertitles (since Wiggler Race Mountaineering! and KO Arena Fungi Funk don't convey the message that "Wiggler Race" and "KO Arena" are supposed to be titles nearly as well as Wiggler Race: Mountaineering! and KO Arena: Fungi Funk). But Rodmjorgeh does bring up a good point that the messages for Standees don't use anything to make those supertitles stand out either, so it's probably for the best that we'd do the same. Perhaps we can use color-link templates and the DISPLAYTITLE magic word to give the supertitles a different color like the actual game does?
  9. Camwoodstock (talk) Per Rodmjorgeh--as far as Nintendo's concerned, those are the full titles, and we probably don't need em dashes. Especially since most QWERTY keyboards don't have those inherently, so that'd make them a nightmare to search for. ;P
  10. Biggestman (talk) Per Rodmjorgeh, this is the only logical option in my eyes
  11. Mushroom Head (talk) Per all. As much as I think Nintendo is absolutely stupid, since this option is the way Nintendo chose, I don't see any other option

Do nothing

Comments

Honestly, we could have redirects with em dashes if option 3 passes, or redirects without them if option 1 passes... MHA Super Mushroom:) at 01:01, November 14, 2023 (EST)

To be honest, because the em dashes are not present anywhere in the game, I don't see anyone using them to search for the levels, so I think it's quite unnecessary. If anything they'll search for the non-supertitled name only, which all already have a page and that one would be turned into the redirect. Not to mention as Camwoodstock said, they are not present in most QWERTY keyboards (hey, that's me!) so it's mostly gonna be left unused Official artwork of MarioRodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 10:09, November 14, 2023 (EST)

Actually, I should mention that when unlocking the final final level, the message you get is "The Final-Final Test: Badge Marathon has appeared in the Special World!", as evidenced in this video. That message seems to indicate that colons are accepted to separate the supertitles even if they don't appear in the level name (at least for this specific course). ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 22:20, November 16, 2023 (EST)

Interesting, although the Standees in that course still don't contain the colon. What I'm guessing is that that's a seperate message from the msbt file containing the course names and they added the colon for better... viewing I guess? because the colon is then not used ever again. It'd be weird to have only that course with the added colon, would create some confusion and inconsistency Official artwork of MarioRodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 22:29, November 16, 2023 (EST)
sounds like something that could be mentioned in the course's trivia, but yes, i agree that we should prioritize the actual level name EvieMaybe (talk) 08:58, November 17, 2023 (EST)

How come custom renders are allowed?

Custom renders seem to deviate from official/licensed media, so why is it okay for this game? TomAndTheCats (talk)

Same reason any ripped model is. These are just closer to how the game itself depicts them than most of the others we have, since most we have aren't posed or lit properly. Why THIS game specifically is getting more attention than most, I have no idea. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:40, November 12, 2023 (EST)
Not only are the models quite high-poly that allows better renders, a lot of enemies lack artwork from Nintendo itself, and I don't see them doing some enemies any time soon. Well, that's mostly why I did it Official artwork of MarioRodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 15:01, November 12, 2023 (EST)

The Game 3D renders category has just custom renders, so you can find the games there Official artwork of MarioRodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 15:19, November 12, 2023 (EST)

I'm ok with custom renders if, similarly to the wiki's TTYD sprites, they try to replicate what is seen in-game as accurately as possible, same angle and pose and lighting and everything. Whether that idea has been actually put into practice is something I can't say with my current knowledge of the game, though. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:27, November 12, 2023 (EST)

Should the term be changed to "custom pose" or something? I also think "custom render" sounds a little funky and gave me the false first impression that the models are fanmade. LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:08, November 12, 2023 (EST)
Honestly, "rendered game model" is probably the most accurate and least specific to rendering method. Like if a model was taken from a noclip screenshot, that'd ultimately be the same deal. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:11, November 12, 2023 (EST)
"Custom pose" would imply that the uploader rigged the model in a way to create a pose themselves that is normally not found in the game; the pose would be custom-made. But if what Mario said is true, then it's a pose that Nintendo itself has made as part of an official game animation, i.e. not created by the uploader, and not custom-made. "Rendered game model" is fine enough IMO. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 14:33, November 13, 2023 (EST)
Yes. I document this clearly. The mesh is ripped, the textures are ripped, the bones/rig are ripped, and the animation is ripped. The pose itself is taken from the animation. For example, Robbird's file page. Both the model and animation files are documented in the file pages, with rom addresses pointing to the specific archive file I used and what animation I've used from the archive file (the animation also helpfully points to visibility keyframes, so the eyes and hand poses should be accurate). Nintendo posed this model, which sets it apart from many fan renders which are self-posed. What I've done to the render is angling a camera and lighting the scene (the lighting was my own judgement but I tried to make sure the lighting helps illustrate a model; poor lighting WILL affect how people see the resulting render). Remember, our bind pose models on the wiki are also custom renders, and I thought applying an official animation to an official boneset would at least illustrate the character in a way a screenshot (in which screenshots from emulated games are ALSO technically simulated renders) and basic t-posed model are limited in doing so. I've been somewhat populating the wiki with custom renders created with ripped models and poses for a few years, see Conkdor (file page). I guess the discussion would come up sooner or later but at the time I thought it was a cool thing I could do. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! As the creator of many of these renders, I try to make it as clear as possible. These renders are not used in the main game article's enemy table (or at least I don't want this) and are found in the gallery section listed alongside other custom renders (pictures of unposed models are also custom renders). I've since tagged these renders as custom in the infoboxes. If we want to rely on screenshots on the infoboxes, that's fine. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS.
