Since we cover the Conker series a little bit here, shouldn't Conker's Pocket Tales go in the game gallery? Fawfulfury65

Why just this game? How about the other Conker games? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 22:21, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Um... I don't know. The only other one is Bad Fur Day. Yeah, if the game does belong in the gallery, that must mean that Bad Fur Day can go in the N64 article too. And then there's the Banjo series... Fawfulfury65

We have to be consistent. If we are going to add one game from the series, we better add the rest. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C)

I know, I will do that if I am able to add Conker's Pocket Tales. I just want to make sure it's fine with everyone else. Fawfulfury65

Fine by me. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Buttons[edit]

The buttons for the GBC aren't really visable. They're just black. Can someone fix it? A Shine Sprite in Super Mario Sunshine.Master KoopakidUser:Master Koopakid

Merge with Game Boy[edit]

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Don't merge 1-0-15
Nintendo markets this system as a model of the Game Boy other than a new handheld. Sure, the same goes for the Nintendo DSi, but the DSi has a camera, a new OS, a shop, DSiWare, no GBA slot, and a higher resolution. The only things different between the GBP and GBC are the color LCD and exclusive games (including the Printer and Camera).

Support[edit]

  1. Octoling Rendezvous (talk) Per proposal.

Keep but mention it on the Game Boy's page[edit]

Oppose[edit]

  1. Results May Vary (talk) - The Game Boy Color, while similar, is defined as the successor to the Game Boy, not a variant. If we merged the two, we would basically treat the Game Boy Color as a variant, which it is not. The Game Boy Color has several Mario games for it as well, and some of the earlier ones are cross-compatible with original Game Boy units. The Game Boy Color also has its own peripherals, unique BIOS, and some other original details (take the Game Boy Horror for instance). So no, this would basically bloat the Game Boy article and make it user-unfriendly. Strong oppose.
  2. Waluigi Time (talk) This proposal is completely missing the point of why and how we split and merge consoles. It has nothing to do with system specifications or marketing, the Game Boy Color has exclusive Mario games that can only be played on it, so it gets an article. This is also why we have an article for the DSi but not, say, the New 3DS.
  3. Keyblade Master (talk) Results May Vary and Waluigi Time make a very good point, and it is also way too much to be merged into one article.
  4. TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
  5. Alex95 (talk) - Per all.
  6. Duckfan77 (talk) Per all.
  7. Metalex123 (talk) Per all.
  8. TheDarkStar (talk) - per all
  9. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Different generation, mostly different games, no more similar than the Game Boy and original Game Boy Advance. Also, you're not putting enough stock in how important the color is. That was a major thing for a handheld to be able to do back then.
  10. Scrooge200 (talk) This is nonsense. Per all.
  11. JoeRunner (talk) Per all.
  12. DarkNight (talk) Per all.
  13. Toadette the Achiever (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

  • Waluigi Time, some games are exclusive to the New 3DS and does not have a separate page. Nintendo and SSBB also market them the same, and they run the same game files. It is NOT a successor. OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 01:51, June 18, 2020 (EDT)
Yes, there are exclusive New 3DS games. None of those are Mario titles however, therefore giving it its own article on the Mario Wiki is pointless. That's the reason the New 3DS isn't split. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 11:09, June 18, 2020 (EDT)
I'd have also thought that the New 3DS is basically just an upgrade over the original 3DS & not so much a notable variant as the Nintendo DS & Nintendo DSi are. Results May Vary (talk) 11:29, June 18, 2020 (EDT)

11 games are exclusive to gbc and nintendo officially considers it a successor to the game boy. merging them would be more counterproductive than anything.
also, i'm not a fan of how you tried to move everyone's votes into a different section. it comes off as moving the goalposts more than anything. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 15:04, June 18, 2020 (EDT)

If the DSi is a variant of the DS and does so much more, the GBC is officially considered a Game Boy remodel. The GBC is an upgrade like the New 3DS and DSi but it does so much less and Nintendo says so. OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 03:37, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Read what Doc Von said above, that the color LCDs may not look like much at this point in time but it was a huge step foward way back when. Additionally, Nintendo themselves called the Game Boy Color a successor. Keyblade Master (talk)
Then why does the Game Boy share the same sales category of the Game Boy? It is a remodel and in the same family! OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 12:42, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Either way, this proposal is clearly not passing for the reasons everyone has given above and no one has voted yes, so I'd say it is settled that we are not merging the pages together. Keyblade Master (talk)
I have voted yes and if people see this image, they may change their mind. Also, we have more than a week left. BTW if you really are a master, try getting a cool signature like me! OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 13:07, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
I can assure you that it's not going to happen. That image tells us nothing about the issue at hand. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 13:23, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
The GBA has its own category though. Move it or I will myself. OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 13:26, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

If you do that, you're just going to risk getting a last warning. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8

I am dead. No one wants me here. OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 13:38, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

I wouldn't have cautioned you against it if I really thought that, since it says in the warning policy that making a big change like that without approval (which there is none of here) does lead to a warning. Self-pitying all the time is not going to make anything better, all you have to do is show a better attitude. Bowser Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8

1. So Nintendo classifies both the Game Boy and Game Boy Color as the same system in terms of sales. But in terms of specs, the two are completely different, and we have no real reason to combine them. 2. Your signature means nothing and has no relevance to the conversation. 3. If you move categories before the proposal passes, that will result in a warning. 4. It's not that we don't want you here, it's that we want you to pay attention to what you are doing and saying to others. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 13:53, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Completely different? Look at the DSi and New 3DS! They have bigger differences than the GBC and are still labeled the same! And there are also exclusive games on both of them! It is bulls*** that the DSi and new 3DS are more different than the GBC yet are labeled the same family instead of DIFFERENT? This is bad! The GBC is a Game Boy! It's like the Top Loader is a NES! (sorry for the s word) OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 14:01, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
We have GBC split because different games can run on it than the original Game Boy. Same thing with the DSi, because it impacts one game (which is, admittedly, a minor case). However, we do not have the New Nintendo 3DS split because there is nothing exclusive on the system in regards to Mario titles. Of course their respective lines are in the same family, that's not the point. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:06, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

1: Marjo JC says that the DSi is the same as the DS while the GBC is different than the GB, despite having bigger differences for some reasons. Nintendo says that the DSi is a DS AND the GBC is a GB. The former is believed, but the latter is not.
2. MINECRAFT OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 14:10, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

I'm not seeing where Mario jc said this, but the DSi is a DS and the Game Boy Color is a Game Boy. That much is obvious. However, they have different specifications that determine what games are able to be played on them. This is why they are separated, not because they aren't in the same line (they are), but because of the games they run. If no Game Boy Color-specific Mario games were released, we likely would've had the Game Boy Color on the same article as the Game Boy.
Why Minecraft? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:13, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Minecraft can only be played on the new models because of the extra controls. OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 14:15, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
And that is relevant how? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:15, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Wait, never mind, I forgot it was on the New 3DS and not the earlier models. But that's not a Mario game, it just has Mario content, so the information is covered in the game's article, not the console's. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:17, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Then why is Minecraft listed in the games section? OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 14:19, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Because we're not just going to not cover the game, it is still within our coverage.
But that's beside the point. Your point isn't splitting the New Nintendo 3DS, it is merging the Game Boy Color, which has clear opposition for a variety of reasons. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 14:20, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
You're right. I am just so blown away that you disagree with me while I have coverage from Nintendo! OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 14:22, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
As stated above, Nintendo has called the GBC the GB's successor. Sales figures do not outrank that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:27, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

I don't see it there. He did design a LSI, but it is for different models, not families. Correct me if I'm wrong. OctolingRendezvous.png Octoling Rendezvous 14:55, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Look at the footnotes. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:58, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Sorry to say this but I doubt anyone is going to agree with you. There's no reason to merge the Game Boy Color - from a Mario series perspective, which as I've said is how we determine things like this, it warrants an article due to having exclusive Mario content to that console. Even from a perspective of Nintendo in general, it arguably warrants an article even more since it's an upgraded version of one of Nintendo's consoles, and one that was groundbreaking at that. There really aren't any reasons to merge them no matter which direction you look at it. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 15:57, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
