It's referred to as the "llama temple" once in the Player's Guide (p. 44) (EDIT: Oh, that's another temple, oops), but otherwise it's just the "temple." I'd prefer the capitalised name in the above source, so I agree with the move. The Zelda Temple should also be moved to Temple (stage) since Smash Bros. takes lower priority. The reason I requested it with the identifier is due to it being an extremely generic name, which while there aren't much in the way of having the exact name, the generic word is used within several of the other locations. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:46, 17 June 2018 (EDT)

Name revert?[edit]

If someone could cite the Prima guide page number (and confirm whether it's "door" or "doored"), I'd like to move this back. The DK64 Prima guide may suck, but "Five Door(ed) Temple" is an infinitely better name than just "Temple". More descriptive to the reader, actually distinguishes this from the other temples in Angry Aztec.

On a side note, any particular reason this and the Llama's Temple the only two level-specific areas in DK64 with their own articles? Dark BonesSig.png 14:31, September 29, 2023 (EDT)

The pause menu shows the names of the levels when checking your collectibles for each level (and defaults to the level you're currently in), but not any sub-areas. Dark BonesSig.png 22:06, September 29, 2023 (EDT)
In that case, we should really do all-or-nothing with the sub-maps. I can see it going either way, since most of them have a theme distinct from the respective "main" map. I found "Temple with Five Doors" in the Banana Guide, so I'm going with that for now. Anyway, the problem with going whole hog is definitely going to be names. This isn't Super Mario Odyssey, where every location, no matter how minor, is conveniently named. A lot of these sub-areas aren't named anywhere to my knowledge, they're just referred to generically, even fairly large ones like the underground crypt in Creepy Castle. I don't have any kind of access to the Prima guide, so I don't know if could help us out at all here. The Banana Guide has some names we could use, but it doesn't name everything. Well, bummer, and to think they did name everything in-game with Banjo-Tooie in an overlapping dev cycle. Before anyone asks, I doubt the internal file names will help. To my knowledge (which admittedly is based on texture data), they are named very utilitarian jumbles of letters and numbers. We can always go with conjectural names like noclip.website does. For the record, here is a list of the sub-areas, excluding minecart courses, Baboon Blast courses, and boss rooms. Keep in mind that anything from Wrinkly hints is subject to the ALL CAPS caveat. Some of the "name unknown" entries might be named by Prima, but I don't have access to that guide, so someone else will have to chime in.

Jungle Japes

  • Diddy's mine area: Referred to as such by Wrinkly, but it's clearly more of a generic description of the area than a name.
  • Lanky's cave: Referred to as such by Wrinkly, similar to the above. A room with a painting where Lanky fights Zingers.
  • Some kind of shell/hive with Zingers and purple Klaptraps. Tiny shrinks and goes in here to get a GB. Name unknown.
  • The underground area beneath the X. Chunky goes here to get a GB and a blueprint.

Angry Aztec

  • Llama's Temple: Mentioned by Wrinkly, named by several sources as either this or "Llama Temple". Already has an article.
  • Temple with Five Doors: Named in the Banana Guide, still waiting for confirmation of the Prima name. Already has an article (obviously).
  • The temple where Tiny is rescued from. Name unknown.
  • The beetle race. The course itself doesn't appear to be named, but the Banana Guide refers to the race itself as the "Bug Race."

Frantic Factory

  • High Voltage Building: Named by Nintendo Power. Also called "High Voltage Shack" by the Banana Guide. A really small building DK goes in here to turn on the Production Room (and get a GB).
  • The race track. The track itself doesn't appear to be named, but the Banana Guide refers to the race itself (and the Creepy Castle rematch) as the "Mini Car Race."
  • The crusher room. A small area DK goes in to get a GB. Name unknown.

Gloomy Galleon

  • Lighthouse: Named on a somewhat nearby sign and in the Banana Guide. DK goes here to turn on the power, which spawns a GB and brings the ship into the area.
  • Mechanical Piranha: Named in the Banana Guide. Diddy goes inside a robot fish to deactivate it.
  • Submarine: Mentioned by Wrinkly. Tiny shrinks and goes in here to get a GB.
  • The shipwreck. One part of it is a "five door" structure much like the Aztec one, and another part has two entrances. The Banana Guide uses the name "Ship Graveyard" to refer to the shipwreck area in general, but generically uses "sunken ship" to refer to the actual wreck.
  • The seal race course. The course itself doesn't appear to be named, but the Banana Guide refers to the race itself as the "Seal Race."
  • The treasure chest the mermaid's pearls are found in. Name unknown.
  • The palace of the mermaid in question. Name unknown.
  • A ship that sails around the lighthouse area after the lighthouse is turned on. Diddy hits a switch on here to spawn a GB and Chunky goes inside to get another GB. Just called a "ship" by Wrinkly, which does not distinguish it from the wrecked ship.

Fungi Forest

  • Barn/Mill: Central building of the Bananaport 1 region. Wrinkly calls it a barn, the Banana Guide names it "Mill" (capitalized). A fair bit is done here, including a miniboss fight against a giant spider.
  • Stablehouse: Named in the Banana Guide. Located in the barn/mill area, DK goes in here to play Minecart Mayhem.
  • Giant mushroom/Mushroom Tower: Called "giant mushroom" by Wrinkly. Huge mushroom with many collectibles inside and outside. Nintendo Power calls it the "Mushroom Tower", but does not capitalize it consistently. The Banana Guide also uses "Mushroom Tower" and capitalizes it consistently.
  • A barn Diddy goes in and walks across narrow paths. Name unknown.
  • A giant stump Tiny shrinks and goes in to fight purple Klaptraps and get a bean so she can plant a beanstalk. Name unknown.

Crystal Caves

  • Igloo: Named in the Banana Guide. Another "five door building" area. (Wrinkly also mentions an "igloo", but is not referring to this structure, but a very small ice dome that Tiny Monkeyports into to get a GB; it is not a sub-area.)
  • Ice Castle: Mentioned by Wrinkly, capitalized by the Banana Guide. Houses a tile-flipping minigame and the second beetle race.
  • Lodge: Named in the Banana Guide. Refers to the large building with several cabins that require instruments to enter.
  • Two smaller buildings each only entered by a single Kong. Name unknown.

Creepy Castle

  • Library, Museum, and Ballroom: Rooms of the castle, all named by signs. Signs appear to the one source of in-game text in DK64 that are not in ALL CAPS, so that's not an issue here.
  • Greenhouse: Named in the Banana Guide. A small building with a hedge maze Lanky goes through for a GB (and a Battle Arena Pad).
  • Silo: Named in the Banana Guide. There are flies and garbage in here, so unofficial sources often call it a trash can, but both Nintendo Power and the Banana Guide call it a silo. Tiny shrinks and goes in to get a GB.
  • The tree near the start, where DK shoots some targets and Chunky goes to play Beaver Bother. Name unknown.
  • An underground crypt area with two offshoots. All Kongs have a GB here, including DK's minecart course. Name unknown.
  • A tunnel with and two entrances. Contains a dungeon area with GBs for DK, Diddy, and Lanky. Name unknown.
  • The car rematch course, which is a replica of Frantic Factory's testing department altered to be a racetrack. Name unknown.
  • A shack next to the Greenhouse Chunky goes in. Name unknown.
  • The wind tower at the top of the castle Lanky goes in to play Beaver Bother again... because this level really needed two Beaver Bothers. Name unknown.
