Monty Mole
A Monty Mole is a surly mole that has appeared in several Mario games. He has been seen in a few side-scrollers, including Super Mario World. They reappeared in Super Mario 64, Paper Mario, and other games. In these games, they are generally cowards who throw rocks at Mario and then burrow underground before he can counterattack.
In general, they are more like annoyances rather than enemies.
Monty Mole got his first place in the spotlight in Super Mario Sunshine, where he was a boss controlling a cannon. He attacked with Bullet Bills and Bob-ombs. From this, one can tell that they are quite handy with machinery.
Monty Moles appeared as obstacles in the Moo Moo Farm course in Mario Kart 64, where they were called Chubbies. They were also obstacles in Mario Kart DS, where they were referred to by their canononical name.
Super Mario World
Super Mario World featured regular Monty Moles that would pop out of random spots in the ground to surprise Mario. There were also Mega Moles, which Mario could actually ride on to get across obstacles.
Super Mario 64
Monties appeared in Hazy Maze Cave. They would throw rocks at Mario and then disappear underground.
Paper Mario
Monty Moles appeared in Dry Dry Desert. They threw rocks at Mario. There were also stronger varieties in Flower Fields.
Super Mario Sunshine
Monty Moles learn how to operate machinery, similar to Rocky Wrenches. A few Monty Moles man a three barreled cannon in Super Mario Sunshine. Shooting Bullet Bills and Missile Bills.
Mario Superstar Baseball
Monty Mole also appeared in Mario Superstar Baseball as an unlockable character, who's oddly enough, on Mario's team. He has the ball dash ability, which allows him to run extremely fast while in possession of the ball.
Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time
Monty Moles appear in this game as well, but in the past. One is seen in the Gritzy Desert, and will impede the foursome's progress unless they can complete his challenge. Two more are seen in the underground of the Koopaseum and run an Item Shop. Deep in the Gritzy Caves, two more Monty Moles run two more challenges that must be completed.
New Super Mario Bros.
Monty Mole appears in a minigame called "Whack-a-Monty" and appears again as the boss of World 6 castle as Monty Tank.
