Super Mario Galaxy (the codename before announcement was Super Mario 128) is a video game under development by Nintendo, the next game in the Mario series, and is being called the "true" sequel to Super Mario 64. It was under extremely close wraps until they came out with a video, supposedly so that Nintendo's competitors would not be able to copy their new ideas. Veteran creator Shigeru Miyamoto has stated that developer focus is for release on Wii. It had been expected that the game would be revealed, at least in part, at the three previous E³s from 2003 to 2005, however, it has not been shown. The game is close to vaporware as a lot has been said about it for many years but little concrete has been shown.

It was thought that Nintendo would reveal all at E³ 2004, as the GameCube approached the golden age of its life cycle. Miyamoto once again confirmed the existence of Mario 128 with another interview during February 2004, but the game failed to surface. Some believed this was due the announcements of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the Nintendo DS, both revealed at the 2004 show. GameSpy asked Miyamoto about the game after E³:

GameSpy: What is going on with Mario 128?
Miyamoto: It's moving along secretly like a submarine under the water. When developing, we often look at the different hardware and run different experiments on it and try out different ideas. There have been a number of different experiment ideas that we have been running on the GameCube. There are some that we have run on DS, and there are other ideas, too. At this point I just don't know if we will see that game on one system or another. It is still hard for me to make that decision. I am the only director on that game right now. I have the programmers making different experiments, and when I see the results, we will make the final decision.

On May 9th, 2006 Super Mario 128 was finally revealed and its name was changed to Super Mario Galaxy.

The players in the E3 expo were amazed by the game because the new gameplay mechanics and the new camera systems are too intuitive and revolutionary. The camera system consist:is automatic and follow you across the space and the rotative planets, the feellings from the players in the E3 were too amazing, like this: The game never get you bored, the game is the real secual of Mario 64, The game makes you feel like you are in the space and makes you feel outstanding, and a lot of feelings more playing it.

The game WON in several Games pages as one of the best game of E3 and the best Game for the Wii console because the game had revolutionary gameplay mechanics.

Shigeru Miyamoto in an interview said that his mind is focused in Super Mario Galaxy and in The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess more than in another games of Nintendo.

The game by now has a 2 player cooperative mode for the adventure mode and is supposed to be a four player action game and a Luigi appareance in the Game, all this said by Takashi Tasuka( a veteran producer and director of Mario and Nintendo games like Zelda) in an Interview with IGN.

Speculations

Many fans believe the boss (or a boss) of this game will be Tatanga from Super Mario Land. However, this is unlikely because Super Mario Land was not created by Shigeru Miyamoto. Others have speculated a repeat appearence of either the X-Nauts or the Shroobs; however, this also unlikely-characters from the Mario RPGs rarely enter the Mario platformers.

Bowser might return in this Game because he appears in almost all Super Mario platformers, like Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros, and others.

Some fans speculate that the star of Super Mario Galaxy is a reborn of the Geno's soul of Super Mario RPG, added by Shigeru Miyamoto remembering the importance of Geno in the RPG. In Super Mario RPG, Geno went to the star world as a Star, and it lived for ever. That cameo is only a spiritual sign for the fans in Super Mario Galaxy. ( all that is supposed for some Mario fanatics )
